Who will be the X-Factor tonight for Portland?
    Dante Cunningham (2)
     6%
    Nicolas Batum (7)
     23%
    Rudy Fernandez (11)
     35%
    Patty Mills (1)
     3%
    Luke Babbitt (1)
     3%
    Joel Przybilla (0)
     0%
    Wesley Matthews (9)
     29%

After a disappointing 1-2 road trip, the Trail Blazers make a quick pit stop back at the Rose Garden tonight to battle the surging Bulls. Chicago, lead by MVP candidate Derrick Rose, is the proud owner of the third best record in the East and have won 8 of their last 10 games. Portland is looking to avenge their 110-98 loss to Chicago back on November 1st. In that game the Bulls were without newly acquired Carlos Boozer, who's definitely not a stranger to the Trail Blazers or our personnel.

The Bulls are still without the services of Joakim Noah, who is expected to be sidelined for at least a couple of months, which puts the onus on rebounding that much more. With both frontcourts being shorthanded, the playing field is leveled and whoever wants it more or which set of guards helps crass the glass could determine the winner. Chicago is stingy on defense, taking on the personality of their first-year head coach Tom Thibodeau. With that said, it will be important for Portland to cash in on Chicago turnovers, run at any opportunity and tally more than 10+ second-chance points tonight.

    Update from Casey at shootaround-
No sign of Dante Cunningham at shootaround. McMillan says he's doubtful for tonight. Fractured right eye, Nate says

And I voted Luke Babbitt... he should get big minutes if the news is true, and must play well in order for us to get a win.

I vote for Rudy, lately he was playing really good so I hope that tonight he will spark Blazers and with good defence and a lot of 3 point shots like in Clevland We win this game, fighting for playoffs  every win is important.

    GO BLAZERS !!!

Long as we double and trap Rose I don't care to predict which Blazer will step up tonight offensively.  I wanna' see Aldridge command his usual double double and see two other Blazers drop 20 points plus.  This is another game where I see FTs making a huge difference.  My prediction is that both teams will live or die at the line tonight and half the responsibility there falls on the officials.

Latest word is that Dante is going to give it a go.  Cool mask too!  Tall order tonight.  Rebounding a key as well as shot selection and getting to the charity stripe.  Bulls were my pick at the beginning of this season to come out of the east.  At this juncture, the assertion could be made that they are a younger and more athletic Boston, without the savvy and experience.  Tough game tonight, especially if Dante is limited in what is already a VERY THIN Blazer front court.

    GO BLAZERS!

Dante' was upgraded to "probable" and he's warming up. looks like he's going to give it a go. his protective mask is awesomely intimidating!

Awesome job Blazers.  I stand correct.

Portlands record truly shows how much officials control a game.  37 MADE FTs.  I'm not surprised at connected hits from the line but I am STUNNED at the attempts.

I was on my feet when Aldridge was fouled at the end.  Was hopin' for another double-double but equally excited for a new career high.  Hell of a job LA.

Another career night for the L-Train!

Props to all the die-hard fans that stayed till the end to give LMA a nice and very loud ovation while he was registering points 41 and 42. I'll take a new career high over a double double any night.

Dre was the X-Factor tonight, but LA stole the show. Back to back 40+ point nights at home against 2 of the Top 5 teams in the NBA? We are witnessing a superstar blossoming before our eyes. That one dunk where he kept rebounding and missing but finally gathered himself and rose up over Boozer was just amazing!

Though getting outrebounded by the Bulls, the glaring stat was the disparity at the free throw line...however, this time in Portland's favor.  Bulls go 11-18 while Portland goes 37-40.  Talk about a role reversal.  The team brought the energy and it paid dividends.  Two of my three keys ^ were realized.  Still, worrisome the minutes the starters are logging.

LA showing the NBA made a mistake with his play ON THE COURT, without opening his mouth.  If he continues to put up these gaudy numbers, others will open theirs for him.  His name will be dropped several times All-Star weekend.

Andre was the X-Factor.  Most energy I've seen him bring to a game.  Outstanding.
LTrain was aggressive.  Keep it up LA!
Overall the best game of the season.

    From the Chicago Sun Times-

It looks like Batum was either misquoted or is backing off of his comments about how D. Rose doesn't play defense
‘‘I would like to start this blog by saying that I never said, ‘Derrick Rose can’t play defense.’ What I said was Derrick Rose is a better offensive player than he is on defense. And, in a game like that, if we can get him to play defense, that can get him in trouble and be better for us, especially if we can get him in foul trouble. This is why Andre Miller attacked on offense so much, because Rose couldn’t foul him, and he couldn’t foul him because they needed him on the court.

He wasn't saying that Rose doesn't have the ability to play defense; he was saying he can't afford to play tight defense because he's too valuable on the floor.  If he gets into foul trouble the Bulls are not an incredibly effective team.  Grammatically, what Batum said is correct but he could have worded it differently.  Definitely a misunderstanding.

I agree.  We need a single minded Owner.

With Stotts - Defense wins championships he does not have it.  Jury is still out on Olshey.

I love the Grit and Grind, and I love the Spurs timeless play. I think if the Spurs get to the finals, they will beat the heat, but they won''t beat the Grizzlies easily, and the Grizz can''t beat the Heat. I know it''s weird.
