As of midnight yesterday, cable giant Comcast acquired NBC Universal. Although the FCC required, as a condition of its approval, that Comcast offer its sports networks to competitors, it failed to secure any means of enforcing the requirement.

Our Blazers games are still held hostage.

I had a long chat this afternoon with a guy in DirecTV sales. He was about the third level up the chain when I called the sales department. Neither he, nor any of his subordinates, nor yet the folks from Qwest (from whom I would acquire a satellite package) had any idea that, even though you can "get Comcast Sportsnet" in the DTV sports package, Portland fans are still blacked out for two-thirds of Blazer games.

He lives in Los Angeles and, although a Lakers fan, he admires our team a lot. We talked about Brandon's knees, the value of teamwork vs. star players, and Rip City's hope that the L-Train would be arriving in Los Angeles Union Station sometime soon.

When our situation was explained to him: "!@#$?!," he said. "You guys can't watch your own team? It ought to be free."

Spoken like a true basketball fan. Thanks, LA dude, I couldn't agree more.

I am a fan of really, really, really fun basketball!

First Game starts tonight. Houston is a tough first round opponent and they play exceptionally well at home. If we can steal a game or two at their place, I feel like we have extremely good chances.

P.S. Would anybody happen to have a...

The Blazers were winning!  That is the key word, were.  Blazers are living proof that you can live and die by the jumper.  Lately it has been dying.

Thank God they are 19 games over 500.  Mayb...

Hawes will be a hot commodity by the trade deadline, I would think the sixers could find a better offer.

However, I do believe Mo Williams could have somewhat of  a high trade value. Olshey needs to make a deal to get a big man while we...
