wow, that's enlightening. Usually in a series like this you do everything you can not give the other guys an edge. In the same sentence he told Brandon EXACTLY what the challenge is, defense. That is pretty awesome, and I think the fact that it is Artest (known for being...let's say difficult) makes it all the bigger compliment. That is really awesome and respectable that he would say that. Kudos Ron, seriously, to the best defender in the league from the fans of Brandon Roy, kudos.

I think this actually reverse psychology by Artest. He's probably hoping it will go to Roys head and make him play overconfident. If you'll notice, it was Craig Sager, not a local guy.

Reverse psychology would imply a thought process of a level much higher than what he posesses. No offense, I appreciate him saying that, however, his reputation surpercedes all actions. I think a little extra confidence would actually help Roy, and to challenge his defense is just asking for him to step it up. It should be a great matchup, I look for Portland to come out with a chip on their shoulder and NOTHING to lose. If that happens, look out Houston, we're going to game 7.

Just as an FYI, did you see the article in the Oregonian last week when Houston was in town. On his own, Artest called and went and visited a boys and girls club here in Portland. Played with the kids and did some great stuff for them. This was verified by the Boys and Girls club manager. People do change, and while Artest will have a long road to hoe to get in my good graces, acts like this are great ways to start.

Statements like this going to Roy's head?

Yeah right... I have yet to watch a BRoy interview and think anything but wow he just completely dominated that team in the 4th. Yet here he is talking about teamwork and how everyone pitched in.

Nevermind that he might have scored the last 4 buckets in the game to win.

You're right, I shouldn't have said that about him without knowing more about him than I do. It is good to know that he made that a priority. Good for him. I also don't know if there has been something in his personal life that has brought on this sense of responsibility. Thank you for posting that. It is a good reminder that it is easy to dog on someone, it takes a bigger man to keep things on the level.

When Houston acquired Artest, many fans expected to see the side of him that was more becoming of his reputation. However, Ron has been level-headed since joining the team. The Rockets players went the extra mile in letting Ron know that he was wanted here and fans in the city soon followed their lead. When McGrady went out, Ron was placed in a position where the team required/needed his veteran leadership. When you have young people looking up to you I don't care how much of a bad-boy image you have, you're going to change. The same can be said for any father who all of a sudden is blessed with a daughter; the changes in these fathers are likely due to them wanting to exemplify leadership that is more fitting to their new role. Artest's complements toward Roy goes to show that players have tremendous respect for others and are not afraid to pass it along. It's great that fans in Portland have recognized a change in Artest. We're on opposing sides but there really is no need to remember that players are people too.

    Go Rockets!!

Artest is only on his best behavior because he's playing for a contract. Once he gets that, from whoever gives it to him, he'll be back to his old ways. He sure put one over on you portland fools didn't he? LOL
