Will Portland Make the Playoffs With Camby Out For A Prolonged Period Of Time?
    YES (33)
     43%
    NO (43)
     57%

    Press Release-
PORTLAND -- Portland Trail Blazers center Marcus Camby will undergo arthroscopic surgery later this week to repair a partial medial meniscus tear in his left knee, it was announced today by General Manager Rich Cho.
“The MRI taken earlier today did not show anything significant,” said Cho. “However, a more thorough review tonight from our team physician did reveal a partial tear.”

Bad news Blazers: Center Marcus Camby has a partial tear of his meniscus in left knee. Surgery slated for later this week.
Now what? It's hard enough contending for the playoffs without Oden and Roy, but without Camby for an extended period of time? Does this now signal Portland going from buyers to sellers this trading deadline? Better question, can the Blazers make the playoffs without Camby for a while?

You've got to be kidding me! Seriously, enough with the injuries! Regardless, we have no shot at the playoffs without Camby in the lineup for 2 weeks..a month. The loss is too much to bear. We've all seen what happens when he just goes to the bench-we get out rebounded, our interior defense turns to swiss cheese-it's not pretty. Time to stock up on the draft picks, hope we get lucky in the draft lottery, and regroup for 2011-12.

I'm just glad he has enough meniscus to repair, unlike poor Brandon. And I believe he has the good sense to give himself enough recovery and rehab time. We want him back strong, and gawd knows he'll be sorely missed in the next few weeks.

It's always 'a great day to be a Blazer' but it's seldom an easy one. Sigh.

The fan in me says hell yeah!

The realist in my says no.

Depends on how much time he misses, how Dante and LA and Joel perform, and how Batum can perform.

The struggling bench needs to pick up the slack.  A first round pick for Anthony doesn't sound like a bad idea anymore.

Well does this mean Camby's career is over? will he be able to continue to play or is this surgery at this age to much to ask from him? Is Cho going to start trading now? Is this franchise back to a rebuilding team or can we get over this and still be a playoff team and continue to build around our guys till they can win it all? Why can't this team ever be healthy? The team is in a really tough situation and i don't know what lies in store for this franchise but as a fan i hope this will just be a bump in this rocky road of a season and we will recover from it. SO FAR THIS IS THE WORST NEWS OF 2011 AND I HOPE IT STAYS THAT WAY!

Last year Greg hurts his Knee, then Joel does the same.
This year Brandon gets arthroscopic surgery, then Marcus does the same.

Wow....Im going to stay optimistic and see what happens, ready or not LA needs to basicly keep up his #s throughout the entire season- 25+ppg 10+ rpg for the Blazers to have a chance. Thats pretty much Karl Malone in a Blazer uniform, asking alot.

Also are we cursed? I mean I know its silly..but cmon, nothing but knee injuries. Oden and Joel 2 times,Elliot Williams,Roy,Pendergraph and now Camby. is it our style of play? Any ninja professional expert injury opinions out there? Are we just amazingly, incredibly insanely unlucky? Sheeez. Get better Marcus, Maybe Portland is the place where knees come to die, I dont know.

Let me just start off and say "Get Well Marcus and do not rush your recovery"! Man the hits keep on coming. I keep on thinking of the old Hee Haw skit (for those of you young enough to remember that show) if it weren't for bad luck we would have no luck at all. On the bright side it will force Nate to play some rookies....maybe.

Of course they make the playoffs and get past the first round all the way to a championship . They have Patty Cakes to make 3 goggles and jokes. The things championships are made of.
I wish the Spurs and Celtics would figure that out, they don't really need all those bigs, or the same pg for more than 1 year at a time.

Blazer management /owner make my head numb with not being prepared for injuries to bigs, who get injured the most often :(

Get well Marcus, you will be missed.

Seriously? Why the need to mock Patty in a Camby injury thread?

Also, I'm not so sure why everyone is so down on Marks. Sure, he's not starting caliber, but he's a big body who can shoot the ball, fight for rebounds and has 6 fouls to use. Frankly, as long as he helps out LA on the glass, we just might be able to manage this.

The next time I see Marks grab a rebound will be the first.

Mills is fair game in another center injury discussion, seriously. He was twice kept by the owner over a back up center, even with the Blazer big man injury history, and not played by Nate until the only other option was a rookie ....

I don't work for Mr Allen, I don't have to make everything appear great with 3 googles. From where I'm sitting something needs to change, I've had enough of being sold a team that will make it out of the first round of the playoffs, by an organization who has management not allowed to make the team better without the blessing of an owner with a mini pg fetish.

I'm sorry the organization doesnt want to hear they can do better. I used to be a huge supporter of the changes from the jailblazers, but I'm not blind, and it's time for more. There are more and more empty seats these days. Look around, even when a "sellout " is announced.

I'm not the only one who feels this way, I'm just the only one who expresses it here.  Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me, times 4 now ?

If someone can convince me Mills would play if AJ werent a rookie, and that year 5 is the magic one for Oden, I'm listening. When does next year actually come?

I appologize to anyone offended, but I want this team to win, like they should be, they have so much heart, they never give up, I root for them every game and always will.  When will management help them to do that ? And pay more attention to the teams that have figured it out, and less to fetishes and googles ??

The good thing about the next up and coming generation of Blazer fans, they still believe, and that's great. Keep hope alive !  Go Blazers !!

We can still make the playoffs. I love Camby's play. He's a great athlete and such a force especially on Defense. But we just need our team to step up (like they have done the last three years). I really wish Pendergraph was not injured because he would be GREAT right about now. And though it hurts to have so many big guys injured, let's keep faith in our team! I still expect the playoffs! And hope Camby comes back soon. RIP CITY BABY!

I voted YES, Blazers make the playoffs in 8 position I think and then ..., with following injuries the team getting stronger and they really play at theirs high level . I hope that Joel can play every evening like last match and with good strategy we can still keep plus balance wins over loses.

They have stepped up for the last 3 years and it's great. But what has the outcome been and when does it change ?  I <3 the players, and support them all in a Blazer uniform, even if it doesnt seem like it .

I don't speak male, but am starting to believe that the gm  (KP and Cho) saying " we won't make a trade, just to make a trade" actually means, Mr Allen only opens his wallet for pgs.

It's not just the talent that keeps us floating every year with these injuries when we should be sinking, it's the coaching too. Whether you guys agree or not, Nate has done a really good job at getting these players to believe even when they probably shouldn't. Sure, Nate has his off coaching days, as do players have off days on the court. No one's perfect but Nate is a big reason why we keep making the playoffs. I really can't imagine how good we'd be if we had our full roster for a full season.

You're a joke, Kim. I haven't posted here all that often, but every thread i see is you just bashing Patty Mills. Do you even go to games at the Rose garden? If the crowds are dropping it certainly isn't because of Mills, not many players get better reception than him. You're so sour it's ridiculous.

I think a big indicator to see if we can make the playoffs is going to be against the clippers. They are coming together and Blake G. is playing above all expectations. It will be interesting to see how we do in offensive rebounding and inside on defense against Blake. If we can compete against Blake I think it is a good sign, if we get  completely outworked by the machine Blake is, I think it is a strong possibility we don't make the Playoffs.

Our team, with the way we play offense, needs more chances to score and that's what Camby brought, Joel isn't there yet and I don't see anyone else on our team that can do what Camby did. Teams that win have rebounding and bigs to clog and defend we lost this with Camby.

I think even if he (Camby) comes back he will not be the same, it's like the B.R. thing last year, now just with camby -weird.
If i was a betting man I would (I'm sorry to say) put my money on the clippers, phx, memphis, or houston to get in over us THAT'S IF WE DON'T GET SOME INSIDE HELP LIKE NOW!!! If we make a good trade for a decent center I think we can get in. Let's hope Kim isn't right (even though I think she makes some cogent points) and the Blazer
    management does SOMETHING -SERIOUSLY!!!!

Well, Kim's assessment is a little harsh, but difficult to disagree with. We've had a stockpile of perimeter players, and especially guards for some time now, but out holes in the frontcourt have been obvious since Greg was first injured. We don't really have a solid back-up for LMA (though I adore DC and think he is a great hustle guy, we could really another guy who's just a tad bigger), and even though on paper we look alright at the 5, that hasn't been working out so well. However, I see more value in Patty right now than in players like Luke and Marks to be honest.

I can't say one way or the other about the playoffs. I really want them to make it. These guys, and Coach Nate, work so hard, and have endured so much, even just making it to the first round would be a validation for them, once again persevering through ridiculous injuries. Can they really do it though? Last night's game was SO ugly, it left me feeling a bit more hopeless than before the game. If we pick up someone who can actually contribute in even a small way that's meaningful, maybe we can make it (sorry, but Marks just looks totally lost out there, all the time, despite the occasional outside jumper). Anyway, I think no, but will be hoping and hoping they prove me wrong!

I think the Blazers making the playoffs depends on how much Pryz can give them on the floor.  We've been to the playoffs before with him as our only true center, and I believe we can do it again with him.  But if he can't give us at least 25+ minutes a game, I don't think will be strong enough to keep points out of the paint, and make a run into the playoffs.
Also, even if we do make the playoffs, going in as a 7 or 8 seed is almost the same as not making the playoffs, because we are not going to beat the Lakers or the Spurs.  If 7 or 8 is all we can do, I'd rather us not make it and get a lottery pick.

With as many injuries the Blazers have had over the past (recent) years, one wonders if there is a common thread  . . like poor physical training/(trainer).  Certainly the TB management should have an OUTSIDE expert study this "VERY Strange Pattern".  It really makes it tough to be a good fan, wondering when the next collapse will be.  I also wonder how the players feel about this.
