Will Camby Be Moved Before February's Deadline?

    No-Who Would Play Center? (28)

Camby Knows Just What The Knicks Are Missing-
“They have a lot of good pieces,” Camby said. “I’m sure they would like to have a center so Amar’e can go back to his natural position at 4.”
Nearly every team is in the market for a starting center; Portland’s — Greg Oden — is sidelined another year. The Trail Blazers would most likely not accept a deal simply for the year’s worth of salary relief that Camby would create, and despite their injuries, the Trail Blazers are still seeking a playoff appearance.
Plenty of teams have already inquired about Camby, but Richard Cho, Portland’s general manager, is not inclined to trade him. There has been no dialogue between the Knicks and Cho concerning Camby in some time, according to an N.B.A. executive.

“Marcus is having a good year,” Cho said. “Teams are always looking for centers.”

He added: “I like it here out in Portland. Hopefully, I can finish my career here.”

What do you think? Will Marcus Camby remain a Trail Blazers after the deadline? Personally, unless something amazing comes along, my money is on MC staying in Rip City this year and here's why. First, he means more to us than any other NBA team. Outside of Camby, we really don't have any other centers currently (Joel is still in the process of getting back into game shape imo and Marks would not be the full-time answer if we dealt MC). Also, he is NOT an expiring contract; next year he will be.  Finally, Marcus wants to go to a contender if he were to be moved and contenders don't usually have high draft picks or young talent to swing our way.

Yeah like you said I don't see him leaving Portland unless a contending team plans on picking him up. He has already established himself here and would be just to hard for him to move again. IMO I think we will see him the rest of the season in a Trail Blazers uniform.

I believe MC will be a Blazer until he retires and it is a smart choice. The man does his job well and not too many centers do that, and that is why teams are always shopping for one. I am really looking forward to next season, especially if we sign Greg to a one year deal. Can you imagine getting a healthy Oden, a healthy BRoy (now that he is doing the smart thing and getting surgery and rest) and Camby at the backup??? I have a feeling Joel might not be with us much longer...

    peace out,
    daddy

    keep Camby
trade Miller and afirst round pick to NYK
    Portland gets Felton
Knicks move the first round pick with the other players to get Carmelo Anthony
Denver gets Chandler, Gallinari, two first round picks

I know Camby wants to stay a Trail Blazer, but we need to maximize our asset. He's playing at a high level and if we can get a great deal out of a desperate team trying to look for the right piece to the puzzle, it could pay major dividends in the upcoming years. We aren't winning the title this year anyway, so why not get some pieces for a title run in the future?

Agree with ClydeFrog 100%.  Remember fans, this IS a business.  I personally, would like nothing more than for Marcus to retire here in Portland.  However, if team ownership makes the decision to rebuild, and go young, Camby WILL be moved by the deadline.  I am not going to try to tell ANYONE that I am in the know in terms of what direction our owner is looking to take.  That said, keep in mind that this season presents some very unique scenarios for teams, both long and short term financially, due to the CBA around the corner...an extensive stoppage of play all but a certainty.  It would be irresponsible of the Blazers to not, at the very least, test the market and see just what would be available for the sake of sentimentality.

Why the hell would we get rid of Camby?  The man's one of the smartest centers in the league, and for that, has been a big difference.  He's the only one that showed up against the Knicks.  Take away Camby, Roy, and Oden for an entire season?  That'd just ruin our chances at doing anything but lottery, which we just don't need nor want.

Which is better Herr..top 8 lottery pick or getting swept by the Spurs in the 1st round of the playoffs? We need to rebuild and getting stuck in the concrete steps known as mediocrity is simply not the way to go.
