How Can Portland Beat The Heat?
    Dominant performance from Aldridge (10)
     27%
Shut down one of Miami's Big 3 (9)
     24%
    Bench production (5)
     14%
Win the Hustle Board (Rebounds,Steals,Blocks) (11)
     30%
Ability to string together easy buckets in transition (2)
     5%

The time has come! Portland, winners of 8 straight at home, battle the league's hottest team, the Miami Heat, who themselves have won 12 straight road games. Something's got to give. After a shaky start, the Heat are finally clicking, winners of 8 in a row, and doing so in dominant fashion. The Trail Blazers will not only need their A game but the crowd behind them needs to be LOUD! Even though Miami might be more talented, the Blazers thrive off of the energy from the Rose Garden faithful which can close down the talent gap.

To win, Aldridge doesn't need to play like an All-tar, he needs to play like a superstar. We're talking 30+ points and 10+ rebounds. Whenever we need a bucket, we need LA to deliver. If Portland can get solid contributions from the bench, Camby keeping the Heat off the glass and Wesley/Batum slowing down one of either Wade or LeBron, the streak at the RG will be extended!

The Blazer's match up with the heat better than any other team in the league. Nicholas Batum has shut down Lebron before, so he will hopefully be able to do it again. Wesley Mathews shut down Kobe in the playoffs, so he should be able to stop Dwane Wade. And the way Lamarcus Aldridge has been playing lately, he's just flat out better than Chris Bosh.

I don't see us winning, but to even keep it competitive, the whole team has to show up for all 48 minutes (and OT if it comes to that) at the minimum. They have to hustle, and play serious defense. And if our shots are missing, they absolutely MUST take it inside. This is one of the very best teams in the NBA, who are on a major streak, and will be looking to prove themselves just as much as every team is looking to beat them. We had trouble with the Lebron-led Cavs the last 2 seasons, and his supporting cast only got stronger. We have to play a perfect game, or they have to have a terrible night, for us to win. I'm a realist, so don't even come callin' me a hater :)

Run the offense thru LA, inside-out...win the hustle board, and PACK THE MIDDLE, forcing jumpshots.  Aldridge must stay out of foul trouble

    Aldridge down low.
    Matthews outside.
    Matthews/Batum lock down Wade/James.

BALL MOVEMENT IS KEY, Miami's D is ridiculous, Miller's games gonna have to be ON POINT.
Can't try to go one on one with these guys, they'll get eaten alive.

Last but definitely not least...throw me in the game. Lol.
I'll be the only player in history to drop a 23pts/10rebs/21asts/13stls quadruple double on the Miami Heat while connecting on every shot and completely shutting down Wade & James, making them a total non-factor in the game.

Perimeter D, keeping them off the foul line, transition D, keeping a body on their shooters (James Jones, Carlos Arroyo, Mike Miller & Mario Chalmers), big games from L.A., Matthews & Miller, our bench outplaying theirs and shoot a high % and we should win by 8 or less.

Where is the "All of the above" option?  We need ALL OF THE ABOVE inorder to win.

Bench needs to score at least 20 points.  These two teams are very good defensive teams.  I see the score being in the 90's in the end.  Aldridge MUST have a 25-10 game AT THE VERY LEAST if we are to have a chance.  He needs to prove himself against Bosh.  Bosh is a very similar player to Aldridge, in which he can shoot the outside jumper.  We need to know which is better.  Obviously, Bosh has the edge due to his fame.

SHUT DOWN DWAYNE WADE!!!  Seriously, I think teams underrate how Dwayne Wade runs the Heat.  Look, I love LeBron, but the guy is somewhat of an idiot.  Unless he takes this game over himself, the Heat will lose if we can STOP DWAYNE WADE.  Last night the Heat needed OT to beat the Bucks.  The reason is because Wade took roughly 20 shots and only made 4 of them.  Wade has never really had a solid game against the Blazers in the past two years.  Let LeBron shoot his outside shots.  I'd rather have that then him attacking the basket.  Camby and LaMarcus should give Big Z and Bosh a hard time, as they are the better defensive players (LMA AND MC).  So defend the crap out of Wade, let LMA and Camby do their thing against Bosh and Big Z, and the Blazers could win.  The last of the big 3 we need to worry about is Bosh.

Winning the rebound battle and playing hardcore defense is a MUST.  The Heat are a great defensive team and obviously can rebound.  We need to hustle on the boards and prevent them from having ANY SHOTS.  Also, the defense must create at least 10 fast break points for the Blazers, who MUST focus on good passes.  LeBron and Wade are killers in the passing lane.

The main key to winning - PREVENT LEBRON FROM TAKING OVER.

I voted that we need to have one of the Heat's Big 3 have an off night. Even if LA goes off for 40, I don't think it'll matter if the Big 3 each has a good/better than average game. Hopefully, one of Wade/LeBron goes cold. This is where having Batum and Wesley together needs to pay off. Both players are good defenders and we need them to play their best D tonight without getting into foul trouble.

On offense, run it exclusively through LA. Bosh is a mediocre defender and they have zero shot-block presence inside. Live at the line and attack the basket. Do not settle for contested jumpers. Be the aggressors and take it to the Heat!

I think that if they contain wade and lebron by keeping them out of the paint, because if they allow them to get in there the refs are going to blow the whistle on any kind of contact...which leaves us with less bigs and slows everything up... The blazers are bigger than the heat and we are running just like they do... out board, steal the ball and keep control of the paint...Blazers win...102-96.

thats a dope picture of cunningham, make sure you take another one tonight, right as Bron lays him out!!!!
I would love to see the blazers pull this off, but im pullin for my boy.
If you shut one of the heat 3 down, there are repercussions that do not apply to all 3 players.
Shutting down Bron, leaves Wade and Bosh to wreak havoc, Bosh sits back and plays groupie to alot of people, but he is just as crucial a winning component as bron or wade.
    Herr nailed it.
Wade is your guy to shut down. with his speed limited, and clogging his passing lanes, not just the ones on the ground, wade's handin out frequent flyer miles all season making some of the craziest passes through the air.
You take that away from him, you take away points from other team members.
Aldridge needs to play well, and i find it funny how now everyone wants to jump on LA's nuts when just a few months ago, he couldnt get anything right.
Aldridge has been a key top victory for this team since season 1. the fact that it has taken this long to utilize him is just sad. Run the offense through HIM!!!!!
Nicholas Batum has shut down Lebron before
And dinosaurs walked the earth once......but i dont see them doin it again anytime soon, neither do i see Bron being delayed from take off by air france. ill take that match up every second of every day, for the rest of batums life, seeing as how bron is...well unhuman to say the least. hahaha.

I would say the most crucial thing we could do to stop this team, is take out their utility players, the bench guys.
If you assume the big 3 are going to score and run us over, so be it, they cant win a game by just the 3 of them. i would make sure there is a hand in Z's face (face area) on every shot he takes. Force haslem to drive and work it inside, the dude is 6'9 at center, call babbit and throw him all over haslem if you want.
House, dont let him get hot, and keep close to arroyo, do those things and the game can stay pretty even.

i cant say the same for Vick thou....hahah. :/

Don't let the Heat go on a 9 > 2 run at the end of the 4th quarter.......

Apparently I have been using the wrong word. When the Heat scored 8 in a row and the Blazer defender closest, was Mills ( he did have a good game though ) it was a defensive miscommunication on screens. Contenders,
( like Blake & Brown on the Lakers, Kassandra ) will  do the same thing.
Imo, this team contends with a healthy Pryz and more length on perimeter D.

Anyone else see Lebron's gesture towards the crowd after his 1 three? Very classless and exactly why he is not well liked outside of heat/bandwagon fans.

We had that game, but Miami hit some pretty crazy shots and it was just their night in the end. Aldridge played like an All-Star and was dominating Bosh on every possession. It's too bad we didn't post up LA for the last possession. Either he takes the shot or gets doubled and he could have kicked it out to one of our shooters for the game winner.

You all got to stop letting it get to you.  The more you let it bother you, the more you're going to hate the best player in the game.

I was right with my keys to the game.  Sadly, they didn't happen.  LBJ took over, and they won.  Now, time to sweep the rest of the month.  Starts with the Knicks. Should be easy if we consistently feed LaMarcus.  Amar'e is probably the most overrated player... playing no defense.

Miller should not be on the floor in a clutch situation when Lebron and Bosh are on the floor to help defend the post area.  Miller gets into these moods where you can tell he's trying to prove his worth by forcing the shot in the post or challenging a defender with isolation.  Neither of these were effective.  He shot 22% last night.  The fact of the matter is Patty is a better choice in clutch moments for several reasons.
    1) his quickness allows him to make separation from a defender with relative ease.
    2) He can shoot behind the arc, in front of the arc, lay it up, or use his tear drop.
    3) He won't cause congestion in the key.  Patty allows others to work by spreading the defense.
    4) If Patty, Batum, Matthews, Aldridge, and Camby are on the floor, a double-team is very risky.  All of these players are huge scoring threats.  Camby is a threat as long as he hovers near the top of the key or at the post.
I'm not placing the blame on Miller for losing this game.  Miami turned it on last night.  The majority of our team could not produce that same spark or energy.

Nate McMillan lost us this game.....oh and that COMPLETELY BLOWN double dribble call on LeBron with us up 2 and 40 seconds to go.

There is no excuse for Nate to sub in Andre with a minute left in the 4th after Patty had played so well. Not only did it disrupt the rhythm of the game but it put in a cold Miller. Miller isn't a good shooter to begin with but an Andre who's not even warm gave us ZERO chance at winning that game.

Why did we try for the pick and role? Any coach with a brain is going to tell his team to stick with the screener and force Dre to shoot. We should have just posted up Aldridge and let him take Bosh for the umpteenth straight time in the post or kick it out to a shooter if the double team comes. Now, how simple is that? We had the game and we gave the dang thing away..

Although I have been critical of Nates rigid rotations and treatment of rookie pgs over the years, I give him credit for at least loosening them a bit.
I understand why he went with Mills over AJ, (at that time), still not convinced it was the best answer, but since I have to go against Mr Allen and every other Blazer fan in the world , it is what it is. Imo, AJ did not make any mistakes we have not seen Mills make.

Imo, Nate is stuck between a rock and a hard place at pg. Here is why:
Dre gets the total  job done, but won't be here long term, need to find the replacement to learn and take over. Mills gives a different tempo, but neither are stellar defenders  ( Dre is improved this season ) and Mills lacks size which made LeBron look wide open off screens last night to end the 4th. 3rd option- AJ a rookie, who has the potential to be a very good defender, but were talking about Nate and a rookie pg here,  he has things to learn.
You want Miller in for experience and more length defensively, but how do the youngsters gain experience from the bench in crunch time? How do you raise Mills trade value without playing him in games that get the most national attention ?
Had Miller not been ice cold, the shot could have gone. Longer defender on Lebron could have stopped the 9>2 run. Either way, Nate takes the heat for the loss ( pun intended :)
I would not be at all surprised to see Nate walk after his contract is over.  The pg musical chairs must make him as dizzy as it has me.

Defense wins championships, Nate repeatedly told the team to get stops in the last 2 minutes. The Blazers have options on the offensive end, and they are getting better every game learning to play without relying on Roy in the 4th.
