HAS anybody ever suggested an unloader brace???????????????????????? I understand they are coming up with different "medical" possibilities.. bu ti find it odd that a 5 minute google search has given me at least 6 different things that seem reasonable to try........ and yet, i doubt they have tried any of them???

    http://www.sports-injury-info.com/question-knee-bone-on-bone.html

HAS ANYBODY EVER THOUGHT OF HAVING BRANDON ROY TRY THE UNLOADER BRACE??????? GREAT REVIEWS AND A ALOT OF PEOPLE HAVE SUCCESSFULLY BEEN ABLE TO PLAY BASKETBALL WHILE WEARING IT... just a though.

Why do you doubt that the organization has explored (or is exploring) every possible solution?

That makes no sense. Anyone watching the emotional press conference on Greg Oden's micro-fracture should be in no doubt about the staff's commitment to the wellbeing of the athletes. And, aside from Brandon's amazing contribution to the team, they have an incredible amount of money invested in his continued ability to play.

Brandon is an incredibly motivated guy. His whole life is basketball. When he says they're exploring the medical options, I believe him. The training and medical staff have demonstrated an unusual and remarkable willingness to seek second opinions and consider even experimental options.

I'm not an expert, but I imagine that many remedies helpful to recreational players would not stand up to the demands of the NBA. The "unloader brace," for example, seems like a pretty significant piece of hardware --one which could easily damage other players, or fail dramatically under 4th quarter pressure.

I deeply and sincerely want to see Brandon rejoin his teammates as the All-Star he is. I just have to trust those more knowledgeable and experienced than I to make that happen.

Let me clarify by saying that I am in no way doubting that the organization has explored or is exploring every possible solution... I just as much as you would LOVE to see brandon rejoin his teammates as the All-Star he is.. I am a HUGE Brandon roy fan. I just find it extremely frustrating that as someone who has not only invested alot financially to this team (tickets, jerseys, merchandise.. and much more), but i have also invested alot emotionally into this team.. I don't like that there is very little information being put out there.

I feel like there are many things being hidden from us. While I can't even imagine how difficult this must be not only for brandon, but for his teammates, and the entire organization, I do feel that us fans have the right to know exactly what is going.. and i feel that richard cho being extremely vague with everything absolutely everything that he says... and its not helping anybody.

Many of us share your frustration!

I'd like to know more, but despite my burning interest, I'm not surprised that we aren't told more. An NBA team is ultimately a business, and the information any given team shares will in part be governed by business interests.

Not to mention I don't think there is much more to tell at this point. They've tried the conservative rest-and-management approach, and now must review all the other options. Most of them --I've done a fair amount of Googling myself ;-)-- seem to amount to symptom management.

Cho seems like the kind of guy who prefers to have all the information himself before trying to inform others, but I'm not sure how forthcoming any GM is likely to be in these situations. I was amused to discover a message board populated by Celtic fans who, in their view, are actively lied to by the Boston organization, and envy the amount of info openly disclosed to Blazers fans. Tee hee.

I also wonder at what point our curiosity becomes an invasion of Brandon's privacy. I don't know, but I wonder. Legally he'd have to give written permission for any medical information to be shared, wouldn't he? Or are all those HIPAA forms we have to sign in the doc's office just paperwork?

All we can collectively do as fans of the Blazers and Roy personally, is lend our support in this kids time of need. I have absolutely no doubt that the medical staff is exhausting every avenue in search of a remedy for Roy. more importantly, Roy is a gamer,a winner. He'll be back. Will he be the same, probably not. But Roy is a cerebral player, always has been. On another note, whats the likelihood of developing faux meniscus ?

Commontongue, I'm not a medical expert of any sort. What I gather from web searching is that faux meniscus is not something currently available, although research over the past decade or two on sports-related injuries has been intense.

There is a man-made collagen matrix material which may be used to support the regrowth of one's own meniscus cells --I don't know the success rate for that procedure, or whether "success" includes NBA capability.

It is possible to have a meniscus transplant, with something like an 80% plus success rate, but again I don't know if it's a procedure which makes it possible to play pro. Obviously somebody needs to donate meniscus for transplant and, since they apparently replace not only meniscus but the accompanying cartilage and a couple of contiguous bone plugs, it needs to come from a donor who has died.

I truly hope that these aren't the only options and would welcome hearing about any viable possibilities anybody else discovers!!!

We have the best NBA physicians working for the Blazers.

A perfect example is when Cho was talking to Oberto about a short term Blazer contract while saying, "Oh, well, we have a terrific medical staff here. Don't worry about your heart condition. We have one of the league's most terrific medical staffs that works here. You probably won't have to play much, because Joel and Greg are working hard with our terrific medical staff, and should be returning ASAP, thanks to the dilligent work of our terrific medical staff here."

Here's my two cents...not that anyone has asked for it.  Those of you who are big Roy fans, like myself, know that as dedicated and as qualified as the medical personnel within this organization are...Brandon needs to personally oversee that every avenue is being investigated, even those that have HIS best interests as the priority.  Life AFTER basketball has to enter into Roy's decision making ultimately.  Who among the masses that frequent this site and these boards will be concerned, whatsoever, about Brandon after the #7 jersey comes off?  Brandon has to think about Brandon and his family.  About things like being able to mow his lawn in a few years, playing catch with his kids as they grow...things that we take for granted every day.

    Good post.  Great discussion.

Yeah, he was tripping with that Scottie Pippen reference. Nowhere as good as him, BUUUTTT, I think he can be, if he plays like a man. In Euroleague, you are taught more about finesse, and the fundamentals. He needs to put a little more muscle on, ...
