Ok Barrett, you anouncer guys need to be more positive toward the end of games.  All you come up with are negative facts.  Try producing facts that might actually shed some positive light on the team you get paid by and I am watching.  Personally I don't want to here that the blazers fell apart the last game.  Come up with positive facts toward the last few minutes of the game.  As a blazer fan for the last 15 years it may be tough to watch the last minutes of the game, but I am having to mute or talk over you guys in order not to here the negatives.  Think it over.  I just watched the Utah win tonight and the last few minutes were horrible from you end.  You brought up the golden state debalcle when interviewing Lamarcus, come on that is a slam.  You are a professional and don't need to bring up the negative aspects of the game.  Lucky for you Lamarcus didn't walk away from you after that comment.  They just won the game!  I highly suggest you listen to your comments and Rice's too for the last 5 minutes of the game with Utah and the post game with Lamarcus.  You can do better.

    Announcers = Mark Mason
Broadcasters = Mike Barrett and Mike Rice.

I agree though, he does turn into a debbie downer a lot, but I think that's to make it interesting.

Focus more energy on topics like trading Jerryd Bayless for a piece of sheetrock.

Our broadcast crew is insane, and that's why we love them so much.

Yeah, I like MB and MR.  I post on MBs blog all the time and he knows just what to say.  Rice makes me laugh at least once a game.

I like Mike Rice. Barrett does seem to dwell on the negative too much, but I do think they are both fans and sometimes they overreact just like us real fans! The thing that has been driving me crazy is any time any one even winces in pain Barrett freaks out and says something like "Oh no!! He's hurt. He's holding his.. oh he's ok."  But I can't say I blame him with what has been happening the last two seasons. ha ha
I think he could have worded his reflection on the GSW loss differently towards Lamarcus, but I'm sure Lamarcus knew he wasn't being malicious, and sometimes things don't quite come out right all the time.

If any of you have league pass you can sample all the home announcers and Mike and Mike are pretty good but at times they stray from the game and do tend to be a little negative. The thing I don't like most of all is Mike always interrupts a point that the older mike is making.

I <3 the Mikes, but PLEASE quit acting like everyone is hurt if they take more than 2 seconds to get off the floor when they fall.

Both of the Mikes are great announcers and are great personality's to listen to during the games. The fact that they seem to focus on the negatives is how you take their comments. I really don't think they are focusing on the negatives as much as they are bringing up what happens to us in each game and what we need to do to correct those mishaps. I really believe they are saying what we are all thinking in those fourth quarter situations, as well as when a player goes down. Yes they could be more positive, but then fans would complain about them not being realistic towards the end of the game. I agree with TomL in the respect that they are both fans and overreact just as we do, but our thoughts are not being televised to the rest of the fans.

i think the OP is off on this. i don't think either Mike Barrett or Mike Rice focus on the negatives any more than the positives. as a general rule, people tend to weed out negativity more often than positivity. that's just human nature.

when either bings up a negative, it's more as a "this is something on which we need to improve" type of thing, or as a contrast to something else is going well. for the most part, Barrett is trying to keep it real. i've notice that both in his play-by-play and on his blog (of which i'm a regular contributor).

when it comes to Rice, you have to remember just how long he's been around the game of basketball. yes, he's pretty funny sometimes, but the guy has been playing, coaching or commentating on the sport for more than a half a century. you don't really find that knowledge and perspective just anywhere.

Agreed Kassandra, It is human nature to focus on the negatives. MB is a voice of reason,  some of the truth lately is hard to accept, even for Blazer fans who should be used to it.

thanks kim. not to attack or become insulting, but the OP's post contains quite a bit of negativity as well.

Good feedback and that is what this is about.  People have a lot of passion for all things Blazers.  When it comes down to close games dwell on the positives and the outcome more of the time will net in a victory.  Usually not a lot of good or lessons come from negative thoughts.  Anyway enough philosophy...Go Blazers

    they're both annoying.

should have webber and barkley be the blazer announcers.

only thing i really dislike about the mikes is this whole

"i'd have to see it to agree with that call"
gets sort of annoying because most of the fans go off of what they say.
they're not always correct with it either. which is entertaining.

I think they both do a good job. Rice is pretty funny. I think when the blazers are having the kind of season like this year there will be negative stuff - it is reality

We are incredibly lucky to have the broadcast crew we have. Mike, Mike, Brian and Tone, and of course the crew behind the scenes. If you listen to other teams' broadcasters, you won't find near the energy or delivery of what our guys bring us. (Honestly, are there that many radio voices that compete with Wheels in this league?)
I don't see MB as negative. I see him as being realistic. He does not instantly think a player's down for good when they hit the floor. He just about always says "Let's hope he's okay." It's not being negative.
Not to mention, if he tried to always put things in ribbons, you'd get on his case for being too positive. He's doing the right things.
I'd find it hard to find a ton of stuff to sugarcoat if the Blazers lost like they did against a weakened Denver or the Christmas game at GSW. Especially if you're having the season the team is having. These guys give it to you like it is and you can't blame them for that.
Our broadcasters are at least AMONG the best in the league. They know when to bring up positive as well as negative, and they're very, very skilled at what they do.

Living in California, I can tell you whenever a Blazer game is televised and I hear the Mike's voices I get extremely excited. They are great Broadcasters! I agree with RipCityVice Portland is lucky to have those guys and we should be greatful for the amount of knowledge and realism they provide. Kassandra I agree with you as well, it is not negative as much as it is truthful. Go Blazers!

Thats the one big thing that annoys me about Barrett, when he interrupts Rice right in the middle of him speaking. Not only is it rude and unprofessional, I want to hear what Rice was saying! Another thing is he tries to make the call on something before it is called way too much, and he is wrong a lot. So I always go from "YES!!!" to "Oh damn!!!"

There are a few broadcasters who are so biased that their team NEVER fouls or does anything wrong and they ridicule the other teams, I can't stand those guys at all. It's like they have no clue there is such a thing as league pass or other fans in the world.
