Everything but talent aside, who do you choose?

I remember last year a lot of people were in favor of upgrading Aldridge and Bosh was one of the few available targets due to his expiring contract. And I know a lot of things have changed since last year. Aldridge is now the main option on the Trail Blazers, while Bosh is a distant 3rd fiddle in Miami. But if you throw stats out of the window (Aldridge: 18.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, 1.8 assists, 46.5% field goal, 38.6 minutes - Bosh: 18.5 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, 2.2 assists, 49.3% field goal, 35.1 minutes), it's the way LA has been playing which has got myself and a lot of other Blazer fans excited about Aldridge's growth.

From what I've seen from Bosh, he's been more of what we saw out of LA earlier in his career; a much more jump shot oriented player. on the other hand, LA's taken some of Amare Stoudemire's game and merged them into his own. LA's been much more aggressive taking it to the hoop, more assertive under the glass, and just finishing with a purpose. Also, while LA has the benefit of being a #1 option, Bosh has the benefit of having the defense not geared in to stop him on a nightly basis. So, if you had a choice right now, who would it be, Bosh or Aldridge?

Aldridge is only better if he can keep up this torrid pace he's set for himself. No more are the days of LA hesitating on the perimeter. Those days need to be erased from his memory and hopefully he is re-programmed to only making posters out of fellow NBA players and scoring in the paint.

Bosh is much closer to realizing his potential than is Aldridge, IMO. As ClydeFrog has said, we've seen a glimpse...but can the LTrain keep it up. If so, coaches vote for 2011 All-Star and superior to Bosh in talent, as well as character. If not, still my personal choice over Bosh, for OVERALL contributions to his team.

In addition, I am of the opinion that our Blazer team is now being built around LA and Matthews. Aldridge will not run from that responsibility like Bosh did. He will embrace it.

i think that this is kinda of stretching LA's hot streak out.
he has had what, a few great games on top of his own good season. and now you want to compare him to bosh?
I dont think so , for me at least thats a no go. if you included more factors other than talent i might say it be even.
Considering the responsiblity Aldridge has to his team, currently, in the long run, Bosh has been a leader, and he did swell, nothing SUPERIFIC, but a nice job.
thier game is different, Bosh really can do everything offensively, Aldridge cannot.

as far as this comment,

i kind of laugh, because its funny that you consider him running away.... but i bet you all the pogs in the world Bdawg, that if this team is built around them and they dont win in 2 years, and oden does not return, expect LA to leave.
Bosh played the same game Aldridge is playing for 7 years, except on personal level, bosh did everything Aldridge is being introduced to this year.
Aldridge and Roy could of broke this team out of its funk, Oden was the 3rd super friend that never was..... now you just want to replace him with WM, a 2nd year guy, who even though is really good, still has a long way to go....one would hope..

He continues to dominate. 26 points, 7 rebounds, and he did it all in the paint. Even when Roy comes back, this needs to be Aldridge's team. The game needs to go through him, because he plays at such a higher level as the go-to-guy.

Bosh right now is better than Gasol. So is LMA better than Gasol? Bosh is a big reason why the Heat have been successful, same with LMA on the Blazers. Really, I'd go with Bosh, but I'm much happier with LMA. LMA is much more aggressive than Bosh, but both are performing at a high level right now. Tough decision.

Honestly, right now I'd say LMA is playing the best basketball as a powerforward in the west behind Dork Noringzki.

I have never been on the L.A. Train and I will excuse myself from this vote. I have always thought he was inconsistant as a player and usually was bad when everyone else was. On that note I am liking what I see right now. I hope he keeps it up but I think this poll is a bit early to tell for sure. One thing for sure is that if and when Roy comes back the Ball should go through L.A. if his play continues.

I will take Lamarcus from the last two weeks over Bosh!! I'm hoping now that he has tasted blood, he will never want to settle for anything else.

Couldn't agree more. As I said a week ago in ClydeFrog's thread..."The torch has been passed." LA is finally playing up to the ability that many have felt over the years he had. We are witnessing a transformation. As Aldridge goes, so do the Blazers. He has put this team on his back and is the leader by example now...playing inside-out. I believe that the fourth quarter woes in the recent past will begin to become a non-issue as LaMarcus tightens his grip on his new found leadership role. LA is evolving...finally! Better late than never. Keep on chuggin' LTrain.

To be fair to Nate, the offense seems to have taken on a new identity with Roy not playing. Not only has the tempo changed, but so has the focus. What, only weeks ago was a jumpshooting team, is now a team looking to get a high percentage look with every possession. THAT, as much as anything, is responsible for the win in Utah tonight. The attacking mentality, offensively, by the team as a whole. Even Rudy was attacking. LA continues to be the leader of this team in this regard, and his teammates are following.

- I care if OUR (whatever the name) power forward continues to do his job well.
- Since L.A. is doing an awesome Job now, comparisons are fruitless, for what do they really accomplish?
- What is the criteria/s for measuring these things anyway (If you really wanted to know in a scientific manner, you would have to set up a test that was equal in all respects, which is impossible, given all the lurking variables)?
- I'm sure If we had Bosh, we would want him to do the same in Roy's absence that L.A. is doing, which he could do, so the question is a wash.

Kenny c makes good points, and I tend to agree with BDawg.

I have always supported LMA and believed that he would eventually break out. I thought this would either be Nico's year or Aldridge's year.....and it certainly seems it is LMA's. On Barrett's blog awhile back, he said he didn't think Lamarcus was "going back in the box." I couldn't have expressed it any better than that.

As for Bosh, I could care less. He's in the East, playing 3rd fiddle, and will be an All-Star simply because the Eastern Conference has great difficulty coming up with enough talent to even fill our thier side of the All-Star roster. If Bosh played here, among the Timmys, Paus, Dirks, Loves, Scolas, Lamarcus', and Griffins.......just how good do you really think he would look? Talent and stats aside, THAT has to be taken into consideration as well. It should also be considered when attempting to assess LMA's status.

I have to (respectively) disagree. As I said from the outset, literally months ago, Miami's issue with the "Big 3" (of which Bosh is obviously one) is that they are all VERY similar in skill sets. More to the point, all three are the type of offensive players that need to put the ball on the floor and try to create for themselves...Bosh the best shooter of the three. With where LA's attempts are coming from currently, he would be doing just fine if a member of the Heat. In fact, I would go so far as to say that the Heat would have a better record right now with LA at the 4 and playing at the level he currently is. The Heat have little to no post game, which is something that will bite them hard in the post season. Ask Chuck (Barkley). Can you imagine LA drawing the double in the post and kicking the rock out to one of the other two? His passing out of the doubles is evolving parallel with his effectiveness around the cylinder.

LMA had a very impressive stat line against Kenyon Martin, Turdman, and Nene. Not many powerforwards can live through that and say they had a good game. If he's not an all-star, I'll personally slap every coach in the league in the West across the face. Especially if they vote for Gasol who's playing like he's afraid of a flower.

7 blocks against Denver. Not only is he performing well within the teams offense, becoming a defensive stopper will only add to his value as a Blazer. IMO the offense should run through LMA. He is becoming a beast and realizing that he can't be stopped if he gets the ball down low is making his confidence soar. It isn't like he has been playing against scrubs.

I am a fan of JJ Hickson, he's the heart of the Blazers, his motor is always running.Where would we be without his dbl, dbls.

No. Bosh is better at just about everything on offense and is a better rebounder. Aldridge is a slightly better defender but I dont think he is as good overall as Bosh yet.

I am a fan of the Blazers draft selections. Feels good to finally be able to say that

Bosh is not as good with out the focus being on him. Lamarcus is getting better and better all the time. I don't think Bosh has LA's work ethic as far as the weight room is concerned. Being a good defender is the major difference between the two with LA dominating in this category, Bosh gets more rebounds because he is not the focus of the offense and teams double Lebron and wade. Offensively LA spanks Bosh 2 to 1 on double teams and if your spending the same dollar on either player I would go with LA hands down.

i'm not too sure how anyone could vote for Bosh in this. i realize the earlier comments on the board were made just after LaMarcus had become the number one option, but the truth is, Bosh is no team's first option. i agree that Bosh has plateaued; especially given that miami will only be looking to add to their arsenal. that won't help him in any format. LaMarcus is only getting better and will continue to elevate his game.

not sure also about Tay's comment about LaMarcus being gone in two years if we don't win the title. he has four years left on his contract, which means that, barring an ill-advised trade, he won't even be able to look at the free agent market for four more years. is it possible that at that time he may do so, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it -- in four years.

oh, and Bosh is as soft as my baby sister's pillow.

well it is not illegal to trade someone who's contract isnt up......and if a player is frustrated with a team thats in love with the first round you can guarantee in this tightly knit nba player community that he will send out a text to another player and thats all it takes to get the ball rolling.......dont limit yourself to the box, think outside of it....

The fact is Bosh is a different type of player. Bosh is fast, he moves around, he is a utility star player, he can get the job done with or without the ball, he has defense and not only that he has a very decent jumper and can even pull a 3ball out of his hat.
Not to mention, he likes to actually play during the post season.....

Aldridge is still a tall lanky dude, with a wingspan of about 7'5 he is all about his arms. He has that jumper with the high release, which i do love to see, but he is not as consistent as CB4 is. Aldridge is more about playing without the ball, you wont see him backing anyone down ( thats not smaller than him ) or breaking away to the lane, he just lacks that coordination. Aldridge is a Center, it doesn't matter what anyone wants to say about it, that is where the dude should be.

Bosh could be softer than silk and as dumb as a box of hair, but its not a pissing contest and it doesn't really matter because in the end, he is still the higher valued player in my book. He can just do more than Aldridge can, but give it time and i bet aldridge will develop more and get better.....just not on this team.

wouldnt the true test be like this? wade goes down, james goes down, can bosh carry the team to the playoffs? no no no! he would crack fatigue and just give up. he is a third option on a good team. if the d planned just for him and him only, there is no way we even have this conversation. he lacks heart and pride.

except for the fact that Aldridge completely went AWOL against the mavs last season.
Where as i remember Bosh went all the way, so if that is the test then Bosh is better.....???

They are different types of PF's.
they excel in different areas, they are good at different aspects of the game.
Like Bosh is a way better shooter than Aldridge. Bosh can get rough (sometimes) but Aldridge Takes the cake on that one.

I think that until Aldridge can come out night after night ( including in the playoffs) and not only be a consistent force on offense not via just scoring but offensive boards and assists, Bosh is the more valuable player. But when it comes to each of their teams, and asking Who is more Valuable to their team?
The Answer is : Aldridge , without a doubt.

Example : If Aldridge wasnt a part of this team last year, then this team probably would of fallen short-er than they did.

If Bosh wasnt on Miami, then perhaps Bron and Wade would of actually scored some points and might of pushed game 7 or even a Win.....but thats another story.....

@TayC I agree with you that LA disappeared during the playoffs but I honestly think that he just fizzled. He had been playing 40 mins a game + since the Gerald Wallace trade. I will give him that excuse. Bosh did not put up those kind of minutes AND carry his team to the playoffs during the same time period so I think it equals out. Mavs still beat both teams in 6.
As far as who is the better player I think it just depends on what you are looking for.

---Joel Anthony went all the way...would you put Anthony ahead of LA? It had little to nothing to do with Bosh.

LA also had a higher PER, PPG, APG, SPG, and BPG in the playoffs this season, when comparing both first round performances, and entire playoff averages. So if LA did disappear, then an invisible LA is STILL better than Bosh in the playoffs.

Bosh is soft. Not to mention he's a quitter,as was evident in his multiple meltdowns with Toronto. He folded like a cheap lawn chair in a first round exit a couple of years ago. In addition,he's predictable. He's a 90% jumpshooter,and 10% post player. This was a no brainer. I'll take L.A. all day.
