I just made a post saying Von Wafer. He's an unrestricted free agent this year, and he's young and probably won't take up much cap space. Another player I'd like to get is Kirk Hinrich, I don't know if or when he will be available, but I really like his defense and he can pass and shoot effectively. He's not starting for Chicago anymore so why wouldn't he want to come to a team he could start at the Pg position. Or should we wait on any big moves and save some money for 2010?

Wafer seems like he would be a good FA to pick up for some good bench play. If there was any way we could bring Kirk Hinrich to Portland, that would be SICK!!!! I never even gave it thought before you said anything, but with Rose starting at point in Chi-Town, i think we could totally get a trade going for Kirk. He is still pretty young, plays excellent D, and shoots from the perimeter well.

I think i would lay a Tootsie Roll in my whitey tideys if Kirk came to RIPCITY!! (i know the exclamation points dont really go there, but i put them there anyway.)

I also think a more reliable Small Forward would be handy. yeah, that would be swell. lol

We'll have martell back to be a good starting SF. I think the next thing we should go after is a good backup to Lamarcus. Antonio Mcdyss & Rasheed Wallace are free agents this year too. either one would make for an excellent back up at the PF position and they could both play C if and when Oden and Pryz get in foul trouble. Some people may have some controversial thoughts about bringing sheed back to the garden, but I'd be welcoming with open arms, he's a little old but he still has some years left. He needs to come back home!

I gotta be the voice of reason, NO, BAD DAWGS! No RaWEED Wallace, we just got rid of him remember. Calm down trader Bobs it's our first year back in the playoffs. No Von Wafer, he is a cancer too, that is why he sat last season at the end of our bench. Nope, don't do it. If you can't get a T-Prince, Rashard Lewis, Lebron, or Wade then it isn't worth the risk. If you get talent you can't compromise character. Not yet, it's too soon. This is OUR team and, unless the upgrade doesn't take away from the characte, you have to pass on the opportunity to change it. McDyess is not effective enough anymore in his old age. I agree with the Martel. He's coming back, he was supposed to be our starter this year, and I want to see what a difference he makes especially in the smaller Roy, Rudy, Martel line up. OOO that sounds NASTY!!! I think we have a 3 point contest contender next year. I also see the Playoffs being a different story. I always like a good marinade.

Imagining Roy, Rudy, Webster, Aldridge, Oden/Pryzbilla line-up is just plain scary. Roy with the ball driving dishing to Rudy or Webster, and the ball keeps moving back into the post for a wide open throw down by our bigs. Or Aldridge working in the block kicking it out and the ball moving side to side for an open look...ooo boy.

I love how impatient fans are getting...

+13 wins over our last season record people without Webster. If anyone would have told me we would have that many more then last season I would have thought they were crazy. Especially if you let it be known this would all be without any help from Webster and Oden having a MEDIOCRE season.

My god people I think adding a free agent vet is a wise move but making massive changes is a bit premature. Webster coming back will be huge for this team. Oden being able to improve his game should be great also. I think he will start to get a little more respect from the refs next season.

I am not opposed to improving this team but leave it to KP he always makes great moves. Unless you actually believe morons that say that Oden is a bust after only one season.

I can't believe people are still talking about any other starting pg than Blake. What does he have to do for you people. His assist to turnover ratio is one of the best in the nba. He continually hits huge threes for us and he is the court general for this young team. He is a huge part of our successful season and yet you continue to want to bench him. Go to Starbucks, get yourself a cup of coffee and go to the rose gardens, cause you need to wake up and smell the coffee or flowers or whatever.

No, it is really about opoprtunity. I would have taken Kirk at mid season for Sergio to help make Bayless better. With either Blake or Kirk coming off the bench instead of Sergio, you might (or might not) have a better record. I say (might not) because of how amazing the Spanish Armada were during the regular season and there just wasn't enough time for another guard to develop that with Rudy. Those guys are practically brothers. I have no doubt that it would have helped us during the post season though. Which ever way you slice it, that is a good PG duo. With that said, I probably would have let him walk, or traded him back out partway through the next season to give Bayless more PT and experience. I think Blake is our longtime PG, I think Bayless will eventually step into that starter though sometime in the next two seasons. Blake is the only PG that would be willing to go through that transition cleanly because of who he is. Since it didn't get done at mid season, like I said, I wouldn't do it. Blake is our guy. He had a career year and has been a HUGE part of how successful this team has been.

Blake hasn't shown up in the playoffs though. Yea, he hits a three every now and then but he is not involved in every play like a PG should be. He tends to stand at the arc waiting on a pass or passing to B-Roy or someone but he hardly ever penetrates the D with a dribble drive. Also his passing is less than stellar and he has some plays where it's evident that his basketball IQ is lacking...like last game when he was pushing it up the court only to slow down and get it poked out from behind him. Plays like that are huge late in the game and we got to have a point guard who can handle the late game situations. If Blake can learn to do this then I would love having him, but so far he hasn't proved a thing to me. He's just a shooter...not a passer, not a driver, not a defender, just strictly a shooter. Kirk would do wonders for us.

Not enough to justify what we would have to give up, and I am not just talking about the players being traded. Kirk is a good short term investment, but being that he has a decent contract he subtracts from the long-term plans and development of the team. If there were no salary caps and player's loyalties remained with the team and fans, then yeah, sure. Unfrotunately that isn't the case in today's NBA. It isn't like the days of Porter and Drexler where you get guys resigning with their team because they take ownership in that team. This is why we hated Trader Bob, he always thought here and now and never looked down the road. If you always focus on the here and now, then you limit yourself, if you focus on a bigger target down the road then you have a goal you can reach that amounts to much more than all the short terms combined. The Blazers are trying to build a dynasty, not just win one playoff round. Keep your eyes on the horizon my friends because Rip City is going on a trip and you don't want to get carsick.

Despite the fact that we are still participating in the 08-09 (post)season, I don't think it's premature for us as fans to begin looking ahead to the offseason and the excitement of any possible acquisitions that can be made. I agree that Blake has been amazing this year, but I still don't know if he is the PG for our championship hopes. I think a 2nd unit of Blake, Rudy, Batum, Outlaw? (or insert good backup pf here), and Oden/Przybilla would be monstrous! And a starting unit of (insert more elite PG here), Roy, Webster, Aldridge, and Oden/Przybilla looks pretty dominant as well.

It's really too bad, because I don't mean to knock on Steve at all. What he does, he does very well. It just seems to be more logical to me though to have to expect more from that position to go all the way. The team this year has leaned on Roy a LOT... and I think he needs more help to put us over the hump. Someone with similar basketball IQ and intellect, someone who can run the offense as well as Roy. Like I said, Blake does what he does very well, but how often is it Roy who is running the show? It's because, matter of fact, Blake can't. Or maybe, to put it more fairly, Blake can't well enough.

I'm not saying Hinrich is our guy either. Talent-wise, it is intriguing, but his contract is huge and I don't think he adds much to the long-term picture. I wish there was some way we could snag up Jason Kidd from 10 years ago... THAT'S the kind of PG who could take us to the top! Hell, even Jason Kidd from this year (stats and intelligence/experience wise) would be an upgrade to our starting unit over ol' Blakey. And although his 3p% is just AWFUL and his age a bit cause for concern, Andre Miller will be available this summer too, and he miiiiiiight be worth a look as well.

Von Wafer is a punk and that's why we traded him. Besides, isn't Jason Kidd a free agent after this year? He might be the perfect solution to lead this team deep into the playoffs for a couple of years and all the while groom Bayless to be our starter. Bayless will always push the ball every time he touches it which is great for getting buckets early in the clock and preventing the defense from getting set. If someone like Kidd can help Bayless adopt a pass first mentality then we could be really dangerous in a few years.

Kidd might want to come here. We have the best talent and future is ours. He could be part of a championship team as soon as next season. I just wish we could have picked up Amare via trade. He could have been a huge help in the playoffs. Also Hedo is an FA this year, I think he'll opt to stay in Orlando for a long term deal but I would like him to come. It's hard to admit but Webster is definitely done. He may turn into a good rotational player if he can get back to his old health but not very likely. We need a starting forward who can be effective at the parameter and inside. Hedo can be that guy (considering his play for the Spurs).

If there is any way we can beat out Dallas (the team Kidd started his career with, and probly wants to end it with) that would be awesome. To have Kidd run point, but honestly, i love Blake he plays hard, but waiting til Game 5 to show up at point guard? thats not gonna work. You can play as well as you want during the season, but if you dont get it done during the playoffs, that adds a whole mess to your resume.

However, my thing is that Blake is one of the older players on the team. I dont really see him "getting better" however you never know if he could be that player that defies the law of age. Should he be able to get better, i would love to have Blake stick around.

Arenas? heck no, he would be just as bad as signing Wafer or Wallace, or someone like that. I dont think Nate could handle Arenas. Arenas is one of those players who cant be coached. He only listens to himself. I mean, dont you ever wonder how the Wizards have one of the worst records when they have..

    1. Arenas
    2. Caron Butler
    3. Antawn Jamison

Yeah they may be lacking depth, and talent at the other positions. But those are 3 highly rated players.

Right now, i honestly dont believe there will be a new point next season. But if we could get Kidd, that would be fabulous.

I think adding Depth would be a good idea.

I would LOVE to see Luke Ridnour come back to Oregon. Him and Brandon Roy might be able to get along too, being that theyre both from the state of Washington. I believe Luke is one of the highly underrated point guards in the league. He has some of the quickest handles i have seen, shoots good, and demands attention from the defense (anytime you watch Tony Parker get crossed up by a white boy playing his first year for the Sonics, that you have never heard of before that day, all while watching the kid laugh. Thats priceless) Also, i believe Luke would have a loyalty to the Blazers. He grew up loving the Sonics, but the Sonics are no more, and he went to college at Oregon. Its just a North West thing.

As for Power Forwards, i have no idea what we would do with that. (Hedo Turkoglu showing off the Orlando on his jersey after hitting that game winning shot pretty much cemented his loyalty to the Magic i think.)

Amare would be a great addition. How that would work out, i have NO clue.

I believe Drew Gooden is becoming a FA after this year, and i think that would be a great acquisition.

Anyway yeah, Webster, as we have seen with McGrady, injury proneness doesnt JUST get better out of the blue.

    1. Kidd doesn't have enough years left in the tank to make it worth while.
    2. Drew Gooden wouldn't be a positive add, plus he is Tim Duncan's replacement.
    3. It's not fair to call Martel injury prone. He has had 1 injury that hasn't healed yet. That doen't make him prone, he is just not a fast healer.
    4. Arenas, now that is injury prone, wouldn't do it.
This is an awesome team with an awesome future. We as fans need to have the patience to let it all come together. Patience is a virtue, good things come to those who wait. Let's not get greedy.

Bayless isn't a for sure thing. He may never be our starter. And if we look at the team as it is now, PG is our Weakest position. Sorry folks, I love blake too, But he doesn't penetrate and dish enough, He can't handle lowry or brooks. He's our best option right now. But to make this team solid, you have to think about going after an experienced PG this offseason or next. Nash is available in 2010, kidd is after this year. You're all dreaming if you think we can win a championship with blake at the reigns. its' not gonna happen. Look at the strong PG's in the west. Tony Parker, Deron Williams, Chris Paul, Erik Gordon, Russel Westbrook, Aaron Brooks, just to name a few. It is plain and simply fact that we our weakest at the PG position and if you don't address it now, then we are just putting all our eggs in the jerryd bayless basket. Everyone projected bayless to be a lot better than he is right now. He was the 11th pick last year. And he's not even a top 25 rookie this year. So guess what, I'm not putting a lot of stock in him becoming the future. I'm not trying to break up chemistry or make unnecessary trades, I'm talking about picking up someone in the offseason. the only thing we should make trades for are 1. All Stars, or 2. Ricky Rubio. Tell me he wouldn't be amazing on our team.

You obviously aren't thinking things through all the way. It isn't about winning it all NEXT YEAR. Get off your horse Napolean. It is about longevity of success. You are saying you want to trade for Ricky Rubio when you don't even know how HE will pan out. He is most likely going to be a top 3 pick. NO way do you give up what would be neccessary to get up that high. Guess what Aaron Brooks didn't have a huge rookie season, and Gordon, Westbrook, you are talking about teams at the bottom of the Western Conference. If they had more offensive power other than themselves (outside of Durant), they probably wouldn't be as toted as they are. You saw what Bayless could do in Summer League, he can do that in the NBA. I see him getting good minutes next season and really blossoming. You are rediculous if you want to give up on him this early. Not to mention, Koponen almost made the roster this year. He could be that number 3 PG coming off the bench next year. Rubio would be good, if we could get him lower in the draft, but not for what it would take to get to number 3 and same thing goes for an All-Star. You don't just give up that much after a HIGHLY successful season, stop losing sight of the fact that we were supposed to be a 7 seed at BEST this year. Really, and you want to basically turn it on it's head? Not this year. If things aren't better next season, then you explore some of those major trades and signings, but right now you have your own players reaching FA in the next two years that you NEED to re-sign. Don't put all your eggs into the PG basket when you have LA, Brandon, Przybilla, Blake, and possibly TO to re-sign in 2010, not to mention you still have D-Miles on the salary taking away capspace. HMMM, throws a bull into the china shop huh? Yeah, let's not go Trader Bob just yet.

As far as Kidd wanting to come to Portland, he wouldn't do it for as little as Portland is willing to offer. Like I said, they need to keep their eyes on next offseason financially. I have no doubt that for one or two years he could be a benefit, but I don't think it is anywhere near a slight reality. Nate expects a lot of his PG's and has high expectations. Bayless has had one season under Nate. Give him another summer under Nate and I think he comes back next year a LOT better. Nate is a PG's coach. Look what he did with Luke. Granted, Luke was already a pass-first PG, but he had an unbelievable career under Nate and has since only died off because of the coaches he's been playing for. Give Bayless a chance to grow into the NBA. I say Bayless is in the running for Most Improved come the end of next season. Before you give up on these young guys, look at Joel's career before Portland. Just saying, relax guys. I'm not saying it is too early because the season is still going, I'm saying it's too early because there is a whole summer of nothing but growth to happen. No games to plan for, no tapes to watch. Just Bayless, working out, honing his skills because you know he has the drive to work all summer long. Take it easy Rip City, sit back and enjoy the ride. As far as Martel goes, how can you say he is done? Not even close.

Most rookies aren't ready for the NBA and Bayless is one of them. But looking at the whole season most of those guys put up decent performances when they had the chance. Bayless has some nice athletic moves but I don't like him as the guard. Sergio Rodriguez isn't a bad backup but he can't really handle the workload when needed. Rudy can play guard but not as good as he's playing as a forward. So I would stay away from him too (for the position of course). I think a cheap and nice option could be Hinrich. He's a good kid when gets the chance and I liked his performance in 2006 World Championships. He showed he can lead a team of stars. Definitely not at the same level with Deron, Kidd or even Harris but he's nice. I wouldn't mind adding him as a 6th man who can eventually take over the job from Blake.
Blake has been great this season IMO. He played well throughout the season, but not as good as expected in the playoffs. We could have won both of the games at Houston if he played like the 5th game. He's our most experienced player in the playoffs so he has to take over the job if we are to make it to the Lakers. But he won't get us very far as the starting guard.
Two most important positions guard and center are where we have problems. Hopefully Oden will learn to stay in the court for more than 15 minutes but it'll take some time. I wouldn't mind another big guy to provide depth at PF and C. Amare will be great in that sense and I think we should have a shot at him. FA market isn't very deep but luckily Paul Allen's pocket is and as long as we are willing to spend some money this team will be great next year. Western Finals? Why not!

Blake is a good player, but he mismanaged some games in the postseason that could have changed the final score. He hurried a 3 when he wasn't even open in game 4 (maybe 3) and effectively ended the chance of a comeback. He lost the ball on the fast break that could have turned the tide. He is a solid back up at best. I think Bayless needs time like everyone else. Have you seen how quickly he gets in the lane? Imagine if he learns how to dish the ball to a wide open LaMarcus or Rudy. He has the speed and toughness to be a good point guard. I think we are still a few years away from being a championship team, so Blake will do for next season. Maybe he will prove himself valuable. I don't think we go after someone who hurts the development and chemistry of the team. We need to do things the right way and as Pritchard said to go after high quality people not just high quality players.
