The Blazers have a broken roster. But bigger than that, they have dysfunctional protocol. Has it ever been clearer that Portland is being run from the Vulcan offices in Seattle? And has it ever been more evident that for Allen to have real success he needs a gunslinger in his ear? Also, that Cho doesn't sound much like a gunslinger when he talks?

That's John Canzano's view as expressed in his column today:
    http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/oregonian/john_canzano/index.ssf/2010/12/canzano_blazers_sit_while_thei.html

He's urging big flashy trades like those Phoenix and Orlando pulled off this weekend. What do YOU think?

I think Canzano is a moron. Of course we want to make a trade like Orlando or like Miami did. The problem is so does every other team. He talks like it's as easy as ordering a pizza from a menu. What an idiot. Plus Phoenix looks like it made a STUPID trade, and all the Wiz got for Arenas was Rashard Lewis. And the Magic did not make themselves that much better if at all. Only time will tell, but it was more like making a move to make a move instead of an obvious great move like when the Lakers got Pau or the Heat signed Bosh and Lequit. So if you really look at those trades yesterday... meh.

Canzano is only being a sensationalist to get more viewers and ratings. I agree that the Vulcans are a bunch of nitwits that haven't got a clue, but every thing else Canzano says is garbage unless he is agreeing with Jerome Kersey. If after the end of December and the trade deadline comes around and we haven't done anything, then I could see going off on them. But right now it is really complicated. Do you want to trade away one of the best players in the NBA the last few years for someone significantly less because he might not be the same, or do you want to trade away your best player on the team the last year? Or do you want to trade one of the two real centers you have on this injury plagued team? Plus what if somehow Brandon makes an amazing recovery or learns to compensate to return to near his All Star form? It's too early to know one way or another. You keep working the lines but I think patience is the best thing until something comes along that is in the Blazers best interest! ha ha I hope I don't get sued by Cho for plagiarism.

If Canzano knows what's best to do and how to do it, why didn't he apply for the position when it was open this summer?

So he wants another Trader Bob? Because we all know how well that worked for us last time...Jermaine O'Neal for Dale Davis ring a bell? Signing Rod Strickland as a 3rd point guard mid-way through the season bring back fond memories?

Wasn't Trader Bob also quoted as saying (more than once I believe), "I'm not a chemistry major"?  At risk of being extremely redundant...I have faith in Cho.  He will get it done.

Canzano is... eh... annoying at times, right at times, and selfish and wrong at times.  I don't expect a big trade, but I predict one.  I don't think trading our roster and doing something grand like Phoenix and Orlando did will solve our problems, but I would LOVE it if Cho would at least SAY SOMETHING TO THE MEDIA.  The media is saying things to him, and he doesn't say a single thing.  So far, firing KP has done nothing but hurt this franchise.  KP at least knew what he was doing and had goals with this team.  Cho was placed into a maze and told to find the cheese.

Canzano writes what he sees. In this case he watches the Blazers barely break the 70 point mark on occasion, usually losing by a big margin obviously. He hasn't seen that bad of basketball since Dan Dickau and Qyntel Woods.

Martell, Bayless were hard workers that played tough basketball.
We had traded 2 for 1 in the Marcus Camby deal, there's still a hole from either Travis or Blake there.
Pendergraph injured, out for season not replaced.

There's a lotta missing dudes on this team, not blaming Cho for all of them of course, but a couple at least.

Well, KP was highly visible and audible, and you either hated him or loved him. Cho is never ever gonna be that guy. It'll take a long time to really assess the strengths of this quieter management style --more thaing than quick-draw?

It doesn't make a lot of sense to me to say, "We made a lot of dumb trades. Let's go out and make some more!" Doubtless that's why nobody pays me big bucks to manage an NBA team (I didn't apply this summer, either, TomL. ;-)

It's my understanding that we don't currently have a lot to offer in trade. We've got good players with choke-big contracts, and a couple of expiring contracts on players we'd hate to lose. It sounds as though Canzano is suggesting that the only way to change things up is to wring more change out of Paul Allen.

And here is Mike Barrett's direct answer:

Given all that we've been through in the last two seasons, the last thing I want is a trade just to make a trade. I'm sure Cho could have already done that if that's what was needed. That's what gunslingers do. I'll take Cho.

Cho holds his cards close to his chest and doesn't blab them around. I'll take a GM who's confident enough in what he's doing that he doesn't have to TALK ABOUT what he's doing.

    CHO FTW!

Canzano is an expert orthopedist as well. ha ha.

Also Paul Allen tweeted this: "Mike Barrett has good take on Blazer season, debunks bogus “penny story" & makes up for missing fact checking."

I was thinking, if that billionaire is dumb enough to be sold by a metaphorical penny, he won't be a billionaire for much longer, and we're doomed. Thank goodness it wasn't true. And it just makes Canzano look even more like a moron.
