The Blazers are a better team without Roy playing 30+ minutes. With him out they are quicker and have much more movement in their offense. When he returns, it should be an easy opportunity for Nate to bring him off the bench -- perhaps he can be the offense from the bench the Blazers have been missing.

You are right about Roy hurting the team by playing hurt but Andre Miller needs to go. Dre' is a terrible fit for this offense, he needs to be able to push the ball to be effective because he is an horrible shooter. Portland has to make a move before it's too late.

The poll should be adjusted. We are better without a Brandon Roy who is playing through injury. You can not knock him for having the heart to do that, but he is really playing bad the last few games. If he would play like he did in Phoenix then he definitely makes our team WAY better. So we need our star, but when he is healthy.

I think we should give him a month off or something, because this is just not working. Give him specific strength training workouts to focus on muscles to compensate for his lack of menisci.

first of all making Roy come off the bench is crazy.  He is the star of the team you see when he dont play good they lose and when he does play well they win. So with Roy been out they are going to struggle and i agree with Andre going to another team
  1. Posted 12/17/2010 1:33 PM

NO! First of all Brandon Roy just needs to be set on a game cap like like not being able to play the second game of a back to back. or a minute cap of a back to back. he is just over working his knees. What needs to happen is Aldridge to step it up like in Dallas but every game and then when Roy is health we would be a contending team. Its the beginning of the season  we can still turn the season around and have 3 50+game seasons! GO BLAZERS! 10 11 champs

That strategy didn't really work out well for Yao and Houston. Getting injured just happens, no matter if you play 1 or 48 minutes. Also, there's all the practice time as well that an injury can occur.

I voted that it will help out the team. The guys respond well when one of their teammates is out and I think they will all take their games to another level over the course of this homestand. I mean, this is when Wesley started to flourish during the last time Roy was out, so maybe it's Nico's turn now?

More on the Blazers decision to shut down Roy, from Oregon Live:
“I think at times the guys were watching me and wondering, ‘OK, is this Brandon time or not?’” Roy said, when asked if his play had been hurting the team. “And just not being able to fully engage in some moments out there against Dallas made me decide, ‘Hey, I think this is something I need to maybe rest up a little bit.’ Because I didn’t feel like I was helping the team.”
“I think, individually, I just want to get out there and play and be confident in myself and that’s tough,” Roy said. “I’m human. I think as positive as a person as a I am, even I get a little frustrated with things. For me, it’s hard. I want to play, I still feel like I’m capable and I’m just trying to get through this. I was talking to Coach, he told me some of the stories that he had to go through. It’s just something that you have to go through, but you have to be patient.

“So my biggest thing is telling myself, ‘Brandon, be patient.’ I don’t think I’ve been very patient with any injuries. I’ve tried to rush back and get back and a lot of it is I feel guilty. I want to be out there with my teammates. But right now, the best situation for me is to rest and I can’t be what I want to be for them if I’m rushing back or if I play in games that I’m not fully healthy. So I just have to be confident that this is the best thing for me.”

You know it's about time someone came to their senses! what i mean about that is we've seen already that Brandon Roy is obviously not 100% physicly, And yeah of course you've got to give Brandon Roy all the credit for being out on the court to help the team in anyway possible. But if you really look at it , His not actually helping out the team being out on the court his actually hurting himself today and the orginazation in the furture. I mean it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out from the begining, You heard it straight from Brandon himself saying he wanted his minutes better managed this year and that was a sign from the get go that his playing hurt. My point here is that Brandon Roy is the furure of the franchise why jepordize that by playing him hurt so early in the season instead of taking care of his injuries by resting him or what have you. I really don't like to dwell on the pass but Brandon Roy comming back so soon from that surgery last year in the playoffs I personally thaught that was the second worst decision made in the history of the franchise making, of course second to that person MIcheal but thats another story anyway's that decision from last year has a big effect from this year so far. I think Kobe Bryant had a similar situation but the Lakers took care of that their way, I mean look were Kobe's at now my case of point.

We need a spark off the bench, until then I don't see things changing with or without Roy.  I see Matthews and Batum's minutes going up to cover Roy.  Although Matthews is playing great as a starter, it has taken away our offense off the bench.  I'd like to see Matthews back off the bench, and take the pressure off Rudy & Batum, since they are not playmakers, they are open court shooters.  Need some energy & some open shots off the bench.

Brandon Roy is doing a "Greg Oden" on us once again. Oden and Roy, are two examples on how the Blazers got "Sam Bowied" by these players. The team should have known, that these players are cripples and should have never drafted either of them and gave them such big contracts. The team, should just dump both of these players and ask them to pay back the millions that were given to these "bums"

You must have watched Inception recently. We have Brandon Roy doing a Greg Oden doing a Sam Bowie aka a dream within a dream within a dream. Man, that movie was dumb. So would dumping these players. The good thing is at least Roy's contract is insured for his knees... and an ankle???

I think the team and the fans are starting to realize that Something needs to happen with Roy. I would rather lose him for some, part ,or all of the season and have him come back healthy next year than see him play like this. It is no good for him or the team to tear himself up like this.

I can see where your coming from as a fit for our "desired"offense, currently the team is struggling for any offense, as of lately Dre' has been clutch at the line and appears to be resorting back to his "game" of going hard to the hoop and either making the lay up or getting the fowl, with the exception of the terrible no calls late in the game when he was brutallized twice in the same play and did not get the call (typicall blazer hater refs) or keeping his shot within his range of 15 feet , hes a tough competator.  look at the rebounds both defense and offenisivly he gets, right now when we need points its Dre or Matthews that deserve some respect for playing hard and putting in the minuets. (Besides you gotta love the hit he laid on Griffin) yea it might of been a bit hard but I seriosly doubt hes gunna climb his back in the key again, The Blazers need a spark right now and Dre' is an emotional player, no so much verbally but physically and he hates losing, This is evident by his chucking of the ball across the court at the end of the Dallas game it was simular to the infamous Medowlark Lemon half court hook shot. http://www.azcentral.com/photo/Comm...144/431522 Right now is not the time to trade Dre'

i'm not going to go and read all these posts because this topic annoys me.

however roy hasn't been himself and i agree with tom on saying we are better without an injured roy than having him out there.

HOWEVER. lets look a little bit at the phoenix game. the announcers said it themselfs so you dont have to believe me.
they wern't double teaming roy. they thought 1 person can guard him. what happened? he scored. on a bad defensive team.
next games after that? double team.
roy is our franchise player and we are better when he draws the double team. because there are obvious issues on learning how to do the guard to post pass. being that 90% of LMA's touches are on the outside or from camby.
    (which is a joke really)
anyways. we're better when roy can draw a double period. at the moment? he cant explode.
to say the team is better without roy and will all up their games is one of the more ignorant things i've ever heard about the game of basketball.
look at the cavs lost their star. are they better?
look at the raptors, they better?
suns, are they better? no the knicks are. WHY? -.-

need i go on? i dont think so.

I agree. I like the spirit that Dre puts out. He never gets lazy on the court, and his previous determination on his streak shows his desire to continue playing. If the team needs to learn anything, they need to mimic Dre's motivation during the game.

Roy is something that I dont know what to think about. There comes a time when you have to just realize that his knees are going to be a prime reason for his inability to be the player we all wish he could STILL be. This is not a cut your losses type of thing. Just put BRoy in a position where he needs to LEARN to play to his abilities. I will come right out and say that I have no idea what the coaches should do, and to presume I know this situation better then that coaches/staff themselves would be retarded, but if you try to play at a level that you can no longer achieve, it is only a matter of time before you get PUT into a role your capable of. Maybe this week we will find out what BRoy's knees are capable of, and let the team figure out how to use him the best way to help the team progress.

Progress. Not crash and burn. If they keep looking back you will never mature as a team. I would hate to see this season go to waste because the team as a whole refused to take this in stride (players mentality) and take charge and play.

The Team will adjust and elevate their games to make up for the absence of BRoy. I think they better get used to elavating their games no matter what. Brandon is not going to be able to be the go to guy that we have come to know. It sucks to say, but Brandon will probably have to keep this kind of schedule going until he retires.

Brandon Roy hurt plays a big impact on the game for many reasons. Right now Portland missing a couple of games helps not only the team but Roy himself. Having a superstar play hurt is not a good thing to do. It would be only right to sit him out for a couple of games, and Roy healthy plays a big impact and makes the Trailblazers a better team.
Having Roy at a 100% is what the Portland Trailblazers need at the moment.

So far I think the team has responded quite nicely to Roy's absence! They each have took their games up a few notches and even relished in the larger amount of minutes they are getting. Dante, Rudy, and Patty specifically have really just taken off and ran with their new roles and responsibilities. I don't think I've seen Rudy play like this since December of his Rookie Year!

Chris Webber thinks that Roy should take the rest of the season to recover given we aren't going to win it all this year and that the only guarantee by playing is that Roy will hurt more of his body.

Portland Tribune: Roy Contemplates Arthroscopic Knee Surgery-
Cole is of the opinion that meniscus transplant surgery on Roy, who has had a pair of lateral meniscus operations and is at the bone-on-bone stage with the left knee, is not an option. Cole offered the possibility that an arthroscopic procedure, however, might relieve some of the pain.

I like to think there are good surgical options other than a meniscus transplant. Let's hope they've found a solution with hope of success.

Brandon himself sure seems more relaxed and optimistic. He must give himself enough recovery time after this one!!! Hog-tie him in the locker room, strand him on a desert island (with rehab facilities), whatever it takes.

Even though speculation is that Brandon will miss 4-6 weeks, I still am doubtful he returns. I still think the team will hover around or below .500, fighting for the 8th playoff spot and it might not make sense to bring Brandon back into the fold. I mean, where would he play? You can' move Wesley out of the starting lineup. I guess, I should say, he will play again, but we'll quickly realize he isn't quite healed enough and he'll do more harm than good. 75% of the way through the season is a long time to try something new, so this whole B-Roy issue may not get resolved until the Fall of 2011.

Roy having surgery is a good thing. Will it actually help? The last one didn't much, or the many before that. He will never be able to attack the basket like he used to. He doesn't have the step anymore, he never will again. So the Chants of MVP of the years past (And rightfully in the running) is gone. So what he needs to focus on doing now is being a good spot shooter, come off a screen and hit a catch and shoot. He can still pull the double team doing that, giving options for the rest of the guys on the floor.

Next up if Cho can't see it yet then we all need to scream it at him, Andrea has to go.. He has no concept of what it means to be a point guard. Point Guard = Facilitator. It Does Not mean run down the court in the last few seconds and try to score the winning shot with some half hop fade away that is sure to miss because you can't shoot! He has cost this team many games with that kind of play, latest game was Heat. If you are Steve Nash, Derrick Rose, Rajon Rondo, Chris Paul, Tony Parker, or Russel Westbrook, you are allowed to attempt that. But NOT if your name is Andrea Miller. PASS THE BALL!! You should have less shot attempts than assists at the end of the game. Live by that rule.

First off, don't blame Dre for the last ditch effort against the Heat. If I were Miami, I would have doubled LA on the pick and roll to and baited a cold Dre into that jump shot. Dre's performance has been fine, but it is his age which needs to be looked at. He's not going to be around when we turn it around, so now that we are in rebuilding mode, we need a new point guard. Now that Roy is most likely done, we don't need to worry about "fit", but I really like Aaron Brooks. He's lightning quick, can pass, can shoot, can get to the bucket, pretty much everything we hoped would come out of Jerryd Bayless. Brooks/Matthews/LA is a nice start to build around.

Looks like the team expects to have him back in the 4-6 week range. The only question is, where will the team be at that point in time? Will they be on a hot streak, rising up the standings? Will they be in a slump? Or will will stay even keel, right around the 8th seed that we currently occupy?
