An Elite Team Again

    Are the Portland Trail Blazers an elite team again? It looks like they have found their chemistry and everyones looking health! Since its early in the season and the Blazers are back to being a force to reckon with can they get home court advantage this year and hopefully a championship. My feelings on this are they will be competing with the top three teams in the conference then play the Lakers in the playoffs  and be the only team to compete with them if not beat them! GO BLAZERS! 10 11 C hamps

    Elite? No we never were elite. We have always been a great team, but not yet elite. We are 1-2 players away from being elite, what those pieces are I'm not sure. I definitely know that Roy and Matthews are solidified on this roster. LA is pretty solid as well barring a no-brainer deal. Everyone else is subject to being dealt. If it brings a championship to Portland sooner than later then go for it Cho.

    I gotta agree with my man Bertram on this one. While we have had two good seasons with at least wins the last two years, we are still not elite. Yes, we are a force to reckon with when at our best, but to be called elite, you have to be in the Top 5 in the league, where we threaten for at least the Conference title. so we do need a few more pieces, as Bertram says. I love this team no matter what and it is greater/bigger than than any of the players - many of us have supported the team as players have come and gone; we want good guys who give it their all in their pursuit of that title we all dream of (not to mention the parade) in Portland. I really love the guys we have, but sometimes, to get to the bigger goal, we have to make sacrifices of the heart, but I do hope we can reach that high place without giving up the core or key guys who have given it their all, but sadly, this has become a business, which seems inevitable as time passes, as the league got bigger and what not. Hope that makes that sense.

    we may not have been elite to begin with, but we have been a great team, and always have been a great team, we didnt lose it. just because we dropped a few games in a row, didnt mean we all of a sudden were a terrible team.

    the bandwagon fans out there who, as soon as we lose a few, are spouting off how we are terrible and need to rebuild, are the same ones who, as soon as we win a couple, are shouting our graces and saying were an elite team "again." we already were. we never lost it. even the best team in the league (arguably the lakers) have losing streaks, in fact their having one recently.

    Yep...one thing I have noticed is that Blazer fans can be the most loyal and at the same time the most dis-loyal fans in the NBA! It really disappoints me how they turn on the team when we hit a speedbump, and then like you said as soon as we win a few then everybody is tooting the Blazer horn! LOL Ok, now onto my simple opinion of the thread topic. When we had the possibility of having Greg Oden in the lineup I truly believe this team could have made it back to the finals. Bottom line is: We need a dominant center to win a championship and we don't have that. Just look at history and championship teams always have a dominant big guy. It changes the game so much when you have that and that is why teams win when they do. It opens the doors to be able to run the perfect offence. I think our team as it is right now is very good and adding just maybe a single piece to the puzzle could make a huge difference.

    We don't necessarily need a dominant offensive center to win one. But the way our team is structured and how it was fundamentally built we need one. However, I think we can alter the roster how it's built and win a championship. Right now though our roster is incomplete.

    Our bench needs to step it up.  If our players were older, and Roy was the Roy a few weeks ago, we'd have been blown out last night. The Bench needs to step it up.  We had a deep bench, one of the deepest if not deepest last season, but we traded a few key guys in our success.  We need to get those guys back (not THOSE guys, but at least the talent level).

    Also, Batum needs to get back to his Pippen status, because lately he's been trying too hard.

    Agreed, this "elite" team must be part of the dreamers world some blazer fans live in, granted some very gifted players have played on this team, but "elite" is not the best word selection.

    This team could be elite, if the kinks withing the managers fantasy mind, the choke-points in nates offense, and the event of all the players being on the same selfless page, all wanting the best for the team, yeah easily could become a regular playoff contender...
