This post is for those of you that pitched a fit over the deal portland gave Wes, and you know who you are. The commets that were posted ranged from "lets wait and see" to "what is Cho thinking!" This team is being held together at .500 by Wes' energy on both ends of the court. These last three wins have come from the team feeding off of his play, they move without the ball and are playing better defense. I am not going to post stats or dig up all the old posts about his signing just to call any one person out. I want to see how many of you haters back when he was signed can man up and admit you were wrong. He is worth every penny of the 34mil he gets.

    great topic, turned into poll-DHawes22

i still wish he were on the Jazz to be honest, i wish we still had webster an outlaw, or a bench that could play.
Im not sold on WM, he has played well for the past few games, but the season isnt even halfway over and already we have praised 3-4 different players this season and are crediting them with titles like "last hope, or saviour of the season"
ive learned in a short time that investing any amount of emotion into this team does nothing....

Wesley has had a good stretch of late, though he was inconsistent when he was coming off the bench. it was only due to Nicolas' slump that Wesley was put into the starting lineup. i wouldn't say we're being held together singlehandedly by Wesley. LaMarcus has been consistent and steady, Marcus has been a monster on the boards for the most part, Andre has stepped up in games when we needed him, Brandon has had some good games, Patty's energy is rubbing off on others, and Joel's return (right about the time the current win streak started) has lifted the second unit. it's been a team effort.

and not to nitpick, but Cho wasn't yet hired when Wesley was signed, so i don't think anyone was saying "what is Cho thinking!"

Those are great stats for an UNDRAFTED rookie. and one year in the NBA and hes averaging about the same stat just more points on a team that has to many players at that position is fantastic. Honestly to this point into the season he has been worth that contract he got.The Blazers staff knows what its doing and my hats off to them! GO BLAZERS!10 11 Champs

Wesley is not only proving that he's earning his contract, but that he was a STEAL!

    From John Hollinger-
And for that, they can thank that rarest of rarities: a midlevel-exception player who has proven to be worth his money. While the Curse of the MLE has claimed victims far and wide, Portland’s Wesley Matthews – who signed a front-loaded five-year, $33 million deal with the Blazers this summer – has instead been a revelation.” – ESPN’s John Hollinger

Honestly, where would we be without Wesley and how much better would Utah be WITH him? Absolutely a great steal by our front office. They really knew just how good this guy was AND he's only 25 years old.

I like the comparison Bertram! Also another nugget of information, Wesley  was nominated for Player of the Week honors and has averaged 20.3 ppg since being inserted into the Starting Lineup.

It's not strictly a matter of whether an individual player is good --and for us, Wesley Matthews emphatically has been, thus far. It's also a question of how well he complements his teammates, how suited he is to the team's style of play, how many others on the team can provide the same skill set, who's healthy and who's not: conditions in a constant state of flux.

I miss every player we've traded away, but many have landed in situations which offer them more opportunities than they were likely to find with the Blazers. Matthews and Mills have both similarly excelled for this team, somewhat unexpectedly, and Rudy's play seems to steady with Patty on the floor.

The whole is greater than the sum of the parts...

I know we paid alot of money for him but I think we did ok getting him. At least he is not warming the bench or on the sidelines injured. I liked Outlaw and will miss his reach But I think Wesley is a better fit than Travis or Martell (not a big fan of). He brings a much needed spark to the line up that neither Travis nor Martell or Batum for that matter could bring on a regular basis. All in All he makes the Blazers want to play better I think and that makes alot of differance right now.

Wesley Matthews is a huge addition for this team! I didn't know how he would play coming out of Utah, at first his 3-point shots that wouldn't go down worried me, but he has exceeded expectations and I am proud to say he is a Portland Trailblazer!

I had to vote for exceeds expectations. Wesley had been our rock all year offensively. Not only is he our best finisher, but he's now become our best 3 point threat. Realistically, we'd have 5, maybe 6 wins without Matthews this year. He's been a huge blessing so far.

i mean we went after him for a reason, and that reason was to play well off the bench.
we hired him to play like the way he is playing.
If he were like discovering cure for diseases while he grabs boards and hit 3's while rescuing cats, i think then i could call that beyond expectations.
