With the Trail Blazers' obvious struggles and the health challenges (that's putting it mildly) of Greg Oden and Brandon Roy, two people with knowledge of the team's strategy told CBSSports.com that Portland management is contemplating trading older players and going young. The obvious targets for such a purge would be Marcus Camby (36), Andre Miller (34), and Joel Pryzbilla (31). Roy isn’t old, but his knees are -- though one of the sources said Portland would find no takers for the five years and $82.3 million remaining on Roy's contract, given the state of his meniscus-less knees. Pryzbilla ($7.4 million expiring contract) and Miller (whose $7.8 million salary in 2011-12 is fully non-guaranteed) are eminently moveable. Another candidate to be dealt, though not because of age or health, is Rudy Fernandez, who has wanted out of Portland for some time. Sources caution that the Blazers have engaged in only internal conversations about this strategy, and it is contingent upon the team (10-11) continuing to struggle. But the writing certainly is on the wall for major changes in Portland.

I've been calling for this for quite some time. I think a rebuild is what this franchise needs if they want to ultimately get back on top. While I love everything that Camby, Joel, and Andre have brought to the table, they are all getting up there in age and we are not championship contenders. I think it'd be best if we could get some picks or prospects for them. Its win-win. We build for the future and they get a chance at playing for a deep playoff run.

I don't know if getting younger is the answer. but i know if we could trade for someone to take over Brandon Roy's role on this team that WOULD make us a contender. we have the same team that got us to the playoffs but the injuries keep us from winning.

Possible people to go for: Gerald Wallace, Aaron Brooks, Danny Granger,Oj Mayo, Devin Harris, Andre Iguodala,

    Josh Smith, Eric Gordon

We could get a couple of these players, the question would be for how much of our roster?

We cant get Danny or Eric Gordan. If we could get OJ Mayo that would be best he could run the 1 and be that point that spaces for Roy with his shot and can get his own shot, use screens etc.  And to make up for the explosiveness of Roy i think we should go after Terrence Williams. He has the athleticism and body control to get to the line at will and with time can be a goto scorer from the perimeter

I think we should pick up Iggy and put him behind Roy.  This is a guards league, and picking up someone like Iggy, who can play the 2 spot, could be our answer and silence any concern about this team being lead.  Right now, I'd say WM is our best player, since he's been the most consistent.  We can't, however, count on Batum, LaMarcus, and WM to be our best players, and that's right now what we're banking on if Roy absolutely cannot get any better.  Bringing someone like Iggy in could help a lot.

we are just starting to get healthy and these guys need time to mesh. obviously the second unit is beggining to click. how about we play a season with everyone before giving up on them? if we want to win in the playoffs we need vets too and ditching the thrylla is pure blasphemy. he should finish his career here, he'll go out swinging we can count on that.

I can't stress this enough everyone.  BIG PICTURE.  Sustainability financially speaking is the priority.  While I am for rebuilding, careful attention will surely have to be paid as to HOW that will be done, as the franchise must still have a product they can sell.  In these trying economic times, that will indeed be a monumental task for Rich Cho.  In light of this, be patient and know that Cho is the right man.

I don't think rebuilding is the right word for what we need to do. We just need to make big moves. Rebuilding for me means trading your core away (in this case LA, Oden and Roy) to completely start over. What we need to be doing really is what San Antonio has been doing for years. Trading away old pieces and replacing with newer better parts.

I don't think we should trade Roy, no one would take him anyway, I believe he can pull a D-Wade and resurrect his career.

As the loyal blazer fan that I am I'm used to saying "next year." Eff that we want it now! Forget patience! Cho better make a move because this roster is broken. I used to think that this group could win 54+ games this season even without Greg Oden. But I've come to realize that this team was built around Roy and Greg. One of those guys is missing and one of those guys is currently hurting. It's broken like our stars, we need a fix.

You dont want to get Josh Smith on this team, he's just going to dissapoint the fans.
He isnt the type of player they would deem worthy of playing on the team. he is always got an attitude and he is the type of player to get in trouble off the court.

But this team is not going to win this season unless a mid season trade is made.
Miller has to go, call him old or whatever you want, the fact of the matter is, Nate isnt going anywhere, and Andre miller doesnt mix well with the type of game Nate plays.
Miller is a PG who runs with an fast offense, to look for his guys in transaction. Lately he has been taking, and making, but more importantly taking very contested shots or poor shots of poor selection. Not to mention he has completley lost his mind, he is more focused on injuring the opposing teams star players, than his career so that should be enough evidence right there to go behind trading him.

But we could also start using LaMArcus to run the offense through, not just handing him the ball to shoot, or try to post up with those weak moves. He needs to be a guy who can pass as good as he can shoot, he has the range, but he needs more practice, experiance down low on offense, he needs to go out and try different moves, CREATIVE moves, not lame brain "i wish i was Kevin McHale" moves.
Aldridge is a Key Compenent to this team, without Him Or Roy, this team would have a record that Envied the Clipperss'.

I'm going to have to disagree. Andre Miller is probably one of the most important pieces to our team. Where he doesn't help us is his perimeter shooting ability. Other than that he's been the best point guard we've had since a young Damon Stoudamire. The reason why we would trade him is because of his contract. He's a player who can contribute to a team immediately and has an expiring contract essentially, perfect for a team looking to shed some cap for next season.

    (cough cough.....(inhales)....cough cough.....)
    Oh Damon? hahaha.

Miller may still be producing, but he is not good for a long term process because of his age, as he is currently 34 years old.

Portland should look for some more young talent at the point guard position and the center position.

If Portland decides not to match an offer for Oden this coming free agency, they will lose their only center under the age of 30. Having two 30 years olds patrolling the paint is not good, especially when you are expecting results over time and not immediately. Either way, Oden will not be available this season, and that could hurt Portland's chances.

Some options the Trailblazers for young guards are Monta Ellis or Stephen Curry (Golden State is going to have to pick one and stick with them), Raymond Felton (who would fit nicely with Roy and could play off ball), and Jameer Nelson (Also would fit nice with Roy).

For centers, Hasheem Thabeet (under Camby's/Przybilla's teachings could remove the bust label from his name), Cole Aldrich (was impressive in college and could also grow into a good player under Portland's veterans) and Nene (maybe a longshot, but I could see him fitting in, especially if Portland goes more fastpaced) are all possibilities.

Gallinari and Bargnani would be good picks for a trade, provided that Rudy remains and Claver signs up with the team. Run! Run! Run!

The question is, what is Nate going to do?
Are we going to give him a new contract?
If we do, are we going  to rebuild the team that he was trying to build before? A half court offensive team, built around a big man and good outside shooters, and a tough minded defensive group.

I think you don't just start getting players and giving up players unless there is some long term plan and philosophy.
It would be nice to know, but we are only fans.

All that said - it is always good to get younger players, especially ones like Oden, williams, and pendergraph.

In in all honesty - we need to get rid of Nate! I see him as the biggest obstacle to any younger player we get, especially ones we get in the first round - sorry babbitt.

Rebuilding time is here, but it should start with a new coach. A coach who doesn't trade/or suggest to trade away good players for ?'s. Or A coach who doesn't play good young players or pulls them out of games to soon. Or has really bad judgment at key times in games. Or can't see the nature of the type of players he has, for example Rudy, someone who needs to roam and move and slash to the basket for dunks, not stand on the three point line waiting for a pass.

Fact is, Nate "helped" us get to a certain place with really good players but that time is over. I don't think I want to see the same movie twice.

I really wish Elliot was healthy right now. I'd love to see what he'd be able to bring off the bench, but right now he's really a mystery man. We can only hope the knee injuries didn't completely derail his freakish athleticism.

Even if the Blazers do bring in new players, they still have the same coach.

I don't want Nates head, just please admit you made a mistake and ADJUST already.
Nate has done a great job in the past with lineups and injuries. But, I've never seen Nate and Roy so out of sync, and its affecting the entire team.

where i agree armon needs time on the court kim, when you go in and become a walking turnover on a road trip. than someone else steps up and provides a spark for the team. it's sort of expected that the player that didn't turn the ball over everytime they touched it gets playing time.

patty is doing some good things, even if he isn't the pgotf.

our bench is struggling at the moment. particually from people who need to produce. we dont have howard anymore for grit on the second unit. joel is still not joel. rudy is proving all the people right that said. he shouldnt be a blazer anymore. he cant throw a rock in the ocean.
and batum for all the hype. is still a VERY young player, that's learning the game of basketball.

i'm tired of the crosspick the blazers set to get LMA open on the block.

I wouldn't call Andre old...He has the body and the durability to go another 7 years (I'm not joking) he is one of the only Blazers that can stay healthy and play at a high level.

Getting rid of Camby right now would put is in the lottery...This draft class isn't that good so that's not a good idea either. I don't really see how any trade would benefit this team. I think Portland is kind of stuck unless we add some draft picks in the equation to get some superior players.
