Trail Blazers vs. Suns Game Thread

    After finally getting the monkey off their backs last night, Portland has a difficult stretch ahead of them and it starts tomorrow night against the Suns. We handled them easily during Opening Night, but that was when we had our best basketball in the 4th quarter. And, let's make no mistakes about it, we won't beat Phoenix if we play the same way we did against the Clippers.

    Phoenix is a team that's going to let you score if you just work for it. What we need to do is focus on passing and cutting, nothing more. Always keep the ball in motion and don't stand still in one position for long periods of time. Also, play tough D on Phoenix, force tough shots, grab the rebounds, and RUN RUN RUN!

    With Andre Miller suspended, will the blazers start Patty MIlls or the 3 guard system with Roy, Mathews, and Batum? Either way Patty will get a lot more playing time and his speed could help us try to outrun the Suns.

    Had not heard about the Miller suspension, that's not a good sign when our clutch guy who seems to always believe we can win and fights hard to push us... is not gonna be out on the court.  But playing shorthanded and without key guys is nothing new to the Blazers.
    I agree there is no way we beat Suns with the kind of ball we played yesterday, we were lucky the Clips were horrible from free throw land etc...BUT the win was a step in the right direction.  And if the 3rd/4th quarter slump was more of the mental kind than maybe the win helps the players get over that hurdle and start believing again.  Confidence is key!  The home opener was really great, I got home and immediately bought tickets for the next phx pdx matchup.  I hope the crowd will be just as vocal as they were home opener I know I will be.

    I  prefer  Roy,WM and Nic to start. But Nate is the coach, and knows more than fans do.

    We are going to need to stop Nash! Who ever may be starting we are going to need someone to slow him down, he has been pretty on fire the last six games for the Suns. Let hope someone can put that fire out!

    We need to see a well-rounded team performance to get a win tonight. Not having Dre is going to hurt. If we run, and go hard to the glass we'll have a chance.

    Oh, can't forget about Joel busting heads in the middle.

    the key is defence, especially keeping away passes from Nash and shots from Richardson and of course 4 quarter !

    We have to pick up the pace, other wise we will lose this game for sure.
    The blazers are the slowest team out there, and phoenix is arguably the fastest.
    With Nash in there, his whole purpose as a PG for his team, is to control the pace of the game, if we play the slowest, then we will have no problem with a down tempo Nash, if he picks it up though, our guys gotta kick it in gear, not Andre Miller gear right into the other players, but similarly fast.

    Most important thing on Defence: Shut down Richardson from the 3 ball! That guy kills us every time. On offence, keep moving...share the ball and work the low post game to get early fouls and open up out short range jump shots!

    Patty and Rudy have been the keys to our halftime lead so far. Patty looks extremely comfortable out there running the show, hustling for loose balls, and hitting his shot. And Rudy looks like the old Rudy, back when we had Sergio.

    Great win for the Blazers tonight! I still think Roy looks a little rusty there in the final minutes but he hit his foul shots as did all the Blazers tonight. I am also still not a big fan of just giving up free points at the end of the game to the Suns. We should have played hard defence all the way to the end instead of letting Nash have free two point lay ups??? Hat's off to Patty and Rudy tonight as well, and how big is Mr. Wes??? In any case...RIP CITY BABY ;-)

    You are so right Dustin about the Sergio reference.  I think Patty might be able to be a substitute for what Blake did for Roy too.  More playing time for Patty Cakes (and Ruuuuudy) for sure.  I think Rudy really liked defending Nash in teh 4th quarter, seemed like he did well in that role during home opener too.  Feels like we got a piece of our team back with these two wins...keep um coming RIP CITY!

    It's definitely a step in the right direction. We still seem to come out flat in the second half. That needs to be fixed.

    I just keep praying that B-Roy gets and stays healthy. I miss the B-Roy I know that became my favorite player in the league.

    Mills played well.  Agree 100 with the Chacho comparison. But where is he now ? I'm still not a fan of pg musical chairs, but a win is a win  !

    that was a great win, hands down. i think its safe to say we know how to handle the suns, done it twice already. 3rd time will be no problem.

    That was a awesome game, Suns know how to score being one of the most fast paced teams in the NBA, everytime they had the ball at was at the edge of my seat. I was at that game and it was the best game i been to this season. Portland played very well and was pleased with Mills performance taking Miller's spot, hopefully they will continue that energy in the next game versus the Magic.
