At least he's not as bad as Kenny Smith.  Last night, on TNT, they gave their predictions.  Supposedly this is what they had in mind for the end of the regular season.

    Charles Barkley

    EAST:
    1.Magic
    2.Bulls
    3.Celtics
    4.Heat
    5.Hawks
    6.Pacers
    7.Nets
    8.Knicks

    WEST:
    1.Lakers
    2.Jazz
    3.Mavericks
    4.Spurs
    5.Thunder
    6.Hornets
    7.Trailblazers
    8.Nuggets

    --------------------

    Kenny Smith

    EAST:
    1.Celtics
    2.Magic
    3.Heat
    4.Bulls
    5.Hawks
    6.Bucks
    7.Knicks
    8.Wizards

    WEST:
    1.Lakers
    2.Thunder
    3.Spurs
    4.Jazz
    5.Mavericks
    6.Hornets
    7.Nuggets
    8.Suns

I didn't expect Kenny Smith to believe the Thunders hype (seeded 2?), but to completely knock out Portland and put the Suns in there?   And the Nuggets?  Over the Blazers?  Doesn't get much better.  Barkley has us going against Utah.  Yikes.

Herr, if the Thunder go farther than the blazers, heck if they even play eachother in the the playoffs, and the Thunder win, then will you recognize they are a better team this year?
Its not hype if they got the numbers to prove it.!

They aren't the better team.  If they won, it'd be the Blazers fault.  Hmm, it was the Blazers fault that they lost the two games already.

In fact, already in most games they've played, the refs or other team bailed them out.  Only thing keeping the Thunder going at FT.  They are the best at that, and nearly the worst at every other shot on the court.  They aren't a good team, and Westbrook nor Durant should be in any MVP conversations.

hahha, i dont understand how someone who watches them play can say that?
Do you watch them play? Have you?
Westbrook, a PG amongst the top 5/6 in the league currently, grabs 10+ rebounds the other day, helps the team beat Boston, the team you think is the best in the league, with out durant.
    how is that hype?
Durant had 30 ppg last season, they made it to the playoffs, in that teams 2nd year as the Thunder. That means No dedicated " I Bleed Rip City fans" that means "no conspiracy riddled townie refs to help them" and that means "no dangerous reputation to be afraid of." They made it as far as they did by playing excellent basketball. By having Amazing players.
To simply blame Referee's for holding your team back is just an excuse, and a pathetic one at that. OKC are blowing by everyone, no one seems to have answers or a stratagy that works the second time around.
If they arent that good of a team, and yet the Blazers cant beat them, then what does that say for Portland?
It says they are an even less talented team this year. It says, "Portland cant even beat OKC"
I mean, what is your reasoning? And please dont use "referee's that cheat."

When have I said refs that cheat?  They get a lot of help from the refs.  You disagree?  A lot of teams last year overlooked them (and the Blazers).  And as I said, the Blazers lost the two games on their own fault.  They built 10+ pt leads and lost it.  Lot of it has to do with Nate messing with rotations.  We should be 2-0, but the Blazers screwed themselves over in the Rose Garden by sleeping on this team.  We can beat OKC.  We went 3-1 against them last season, and beat them (without Roy) in a MUST WIN GAME for both teams to prevent the Lakers.  We sent them to LAL to get defeated the first round (Lakers also slept on them, the two wins against them was a fluke).

Boston made the same mistake the other day.  Lots of teams do.  I happened to watch that game, and Boston played with no energy.  They overlooked their opponent.  As far as not having Durant, that team could be better without Durant a lot of the time, especially the way he's shooting.  The kid shot jacks constantly, and shooting under 40% (last time I checked, he might be hovering around 40% now).  40% shooting scoring 30 points... throws away a lot of possessions, which Durant tends to do by shot jacking.  For his sake, let's not talk about his clutch shooting, or three point shooting, hell it was even bad for him that I mentioned his overall %.

The only two teams they had winning records against last season that made the playoffs in the West are Phoenix and Utah, two teams not known for their defense.  They fed on bottom feeders last season to get 50 wins.  The only reason this team is talked about so much is because they went from around 22 wins to 50 wins.  The NBA is making Durant their new lapdog, which is why he's on the FT line so much. Only people that get the calls he does is Kobe and LeBron.  How does a jumpshooter get to the line that often?  Quite simple - charity calls.

I did make a typo.  The Thunder are a good team, no doubt about that, but they're not better than the Mavs, Spurs, Lakers, Jazz, Blazers, or Nuggets.  Them getting 2nd seed in the West?  Not happening.

Believe who you want, Blazers will be in the top 5 for seeding. Barkley has always been a hater and go figure he picks Phoenix. Isn't that where he lives? Oh and he played for them too. Little biased. He gets paid for an opinion and nothing more.

Oh and OKC is a good team but they do not have depth at all. Both of those games were very competitive and could have gone either way. BTW, OKC is not "blowing by people." They're 10-5 so far, which is good granted but not spectacular. Also, 5-4 at home...yikes. Wait heres some more: They score 102.5 ppg and give up 102.8 ppg. One big injury and they will be done. Simply done.

Also, referee's can have a heavy influence in the outcome of games. Yeah of course a team can blow out another team blah blah blah. When the game is close though and an incorrect call is made, such as one against OKC, it has devastating effects. You can't blame the ref's, I agree, but you also cannot discount the influence they have in a close game.

    Solid post. Thank you.
i only call it cheating because your inferring that they are not playing by the rules, i.e.cheating.

I think there must be an article in the Blazer handbook that states: All fans must strongly believe the referee's are out to hate against this team. The only reason a team can beat us with any validity is with the help of the Refs.

Now to me and everyone else, it is just an excuse, and a very played out one.
Do you really want to know why Kevin Durant gets to the FT line?
Like you said he takes alot of jump shots, now if YOU know thats how he plays, then the player who is entitled with the task of guarding him must know that. Then tell me, why dont they just stop him form doing so.

Durant has an interesting type of jumpshot, he proceeds to square up his defender and then with the help of a little studder step, he takes off, rising, Rising! and when his hands are clearly over the defenders he lets the ball go, at such a high release point, the defending player has no chance except to pull his hand back before..... FOUL!....too late.
Similar to LaMarcus's jumper, but with a SG twist on it.
Now Durant Misses alot of shots, but that still doesnt mean the defense can or should allow him to continue taking them, more than HALF of all the NBA players miss more that %50 of their shots.
But what the interesting thing is, not all NBA teams are as good as the Thunder at taking that statistic to their advantage.
When their PG's can get more than 10 rebounds, 6+ offensive, who cares if everyone misses shots, we will get the ball back. They plan on missing those shots because they can make up for that miss with more effort being poured into reclaiming the ball.
and with their coach, how determined he is, easy...peasy.

I mean you are basically telling me that the OKC have won their games because the teams they have played, Boston, Blazers didnt want to win those games, so they only played at half energy......
Really? Thats the only way the thunder could have won. is because the other teams let them......

Lets just say, i strongly disagree, but lets say i go with that explanation of the thunders success. It makes the other teams look worse than they already do with that reasoning. It says that those teams, Bos and Por, dont even care enough to play hard against a team like OKC.
It says that the Blazers are Soo good, that they dont even have to win the game, and they are still better than the thunder.
Well, when the Thunder get that much closer to winning a championship than portland, remember that statement.

The one thing i will agree with you, is the lack of depth that the Thunder bench has.
But this team is in no position to be ridiculing other teams benches.
Also, referee's can have a heavy influence in the outcome of games. Yeah of course a team can blow out another team blah blah blah. Like the last Game against Denver, where Portland Fouled Afflalo on the Buzzer Beating 3pt play that didnt happen?

Hey TayC: How about the foul called on Matthews at the end of the Jersey game? He cleanly stole it from Outlaw and would have gotten an easy two points. Oh and that would have tied it. I'm not complaining, but game-changing bad calls are devastating. And yes, Affalo traveled.

Bitter fans can't accept that some new and young team who used to be a bust years ago is actually better now than the Blazers. Grow up guys! We have to accept that the Thunder are better than our team, which REALLY needs a lot of improvement.
