Utah is coming off of a loss last night to the Spurs so we get them on the second half of a back-to-back and they will also be without Coach Jerry Sloan, since he'll be attending a funeral I believe. With out recent lack of success against Utah, I have attributed most of it to Sloan, so without him and factor in Utah could be a bit tired, this is shaping up as the perfect storm for Portland to get a W finally against the Jazz.

Keys- Double, trap, do whatever to disrupt Deron Williams. We've got to make someone else beat us.
Rebound. Big Al Jeff and Millsap are both physical and relentless on the glass. Our guards are going to even have to get their bodies in there to help out on the backboards

YES it is really real chance to beat Jazz, during last 2 games we had very good defence and good rebounding with Camby and Aldridge who can fight with Millsap and Jefferson, so Let's win the game make it 9-5 and get rest, waiting for Joel and maybe also Roy I have good feellings about next weeks !

    GO BLAZERS !!!

Jazz got murdered on the boards yesterday by the Spurs.

LA, BATUM and CAMBY must attack the offensive boards like they're going to war!
    Keep D-RON off the line.
More offensive rebounds and more free throws = W.

Playing as a TEAM like we did Thursday is my biggest key. Move the ball and OWN the glass. We need to go out there, pick up the slack for our missing scorer and big men and play HARD. It was great to see against the Nuggets.

I agree Dustin, we have a great opportunity to "turn off the Jazz." (My sister will be holding a a sign that says that tonight.) <---I'm proud.

And finally, in the words of the Schonz, "You've got to make your free throws!"

I think Wes needs to play like the Jazz made a mistake in letting him go, and hopefully he doesn't try too hard and just play terrible. Maybe put Wes on Deron. Also the Jazz have been tearing us apart the last year or so and I will actually be pleasantly surprised if we win this one without Brandon and Pryz in there.

i was thinking the same thing Tom, Wesley needs to tear it UP tonight! show them what they let go by not matching. wesley is part of the future face of this franchise and i would just love to see him shove it in their faces.

i wish i could watch the game tonight but im gonna be stuck at work. everyone cheer/yell at their tvs for me!

We'll see what kind of energy both teams bring in the first quarter. Tough loss, back-to-back and no Sloan for the Jazz we should really give it to them and attack from the start and see how they respond.

Rebounds will be a key stat, Spurs killed them on the boards the other night.

Wes will probably have another solid game, and have a little extra seeing its his old team.

Last year, Utah OWNED the Blazers and in embarassing fashion.  I can better absorb a loss, when it isn't accompanied by insult...even at home.  Play strong.  Play hard.  Play TOGETHER.  Most of all...DEFEND HOME COURT.

This is another barometer game for me.

    Yeah i agree W/Fallen
Lock down D on DMW, dont allow him to feed it in down low.
And someone has gotta do something to stop that beast of a Millsap.
Check the tempo of the game, Andre should focus more on Temop rather than Scoring, IMO, like Nash does.
But going against , arguably the best PG in the league currently, is never an easy task.
    Batum should tear it up

Probably because of injuries and Pryzbilla being out, but we beat Denver last night, we can definitely beat Utah tonight. Plus we on our homecourt which gives us an edge. Ptown all tha way!!!

I'm starting to think we'll never beat the Jazz.....

They were on the 2nd half of a back to back and without Sloan.
    We shut down Deron Williams.
Killed them on the backboard, including 24 offensive rebounds.
Scored nearly 50 points in the paint.

Usually those are recipes for a win, but Utah got hot and efficient from 3 and we just couldn't hit anything from behind the arc. I guess its just not your night when CJ Miles decides to play like Ray Allen.

On the plus side, Batum had one of the prettiest reverse layins I've seen in a long time! time for a nice break. Let's get healthy boys!

I think that sums up the night...really no excuse why we shouldn't have won this game. Played out almost like the Denver game only we missed shots at the end of the game and Utah had the poise to deliver in the clutch. Is Roy the only player we have that can put some nails in the coffin and finish a team off?

Well I was watching UFC and the Blazers at the same time. The Rampage vs Lyoto fight was on near the end of the game. I swear I looked up at the score and we were up 9 or 10. Then I watched the fight for a bit, checked back and we were down 9 or 10!!!!! But everyt ime I looked up in the first half we were getting an offensive rebound, and in the second half every time I looked up  stupid CJ Miles was draining a 3!!!

The BJ Penn fight was pretty awesome too.

    Same old story Blazer fans.

Points in the paint?  Where were they in the fourth?  LA reverted back to his old jumpshooting ways when his team needed him most.  This team has always had a need for the high percentage shot.  Even with the return of Pryz, this need will continue to haunt Portland against playoff caliber teams and is why first round exits are something to get used to.

Defense?  Couldn't get a stop in the fourth...again, when it mattered most.  Joel can, and will help here.

These two factors led to being outscored 38-20 in the fourth, and another loss to the Jazz...IN THE ROSE GARDEN.  Wesley's expression in post game interviews about said it all for me.

This team not only doesn't have a post presence offensively, how many finshers at the rim do we have?  ONE.  Matthews.  That's not going to get it done folks.  This is a jumpshooting team, and jumpshooting teams don't go deep into the post-season.  Period.

I have lost my Blazer "fanhood"!!  The performance of the team is flatly DISGUSTING  . . . especially for  home games !!

AND, I'm convinced that it's a coaching staff problem.  In my view Nate ranks among the worst in the NBA !!  This is a bigger problem than all of the busted knees (likely caused by BAD training).

You can tell I'm NOT a happy fan.  I've been struggling with this fan issue for YEARS.  And, I'm #@!Z! spent !!

Some one in upper management NEEDS to be kicking some serious ARSE !!

I do understand your disappointed with the team, I was pissed to hear about Oden not playing another season and Roy not being healthy again. But injuries are apart of the game, noboby can get injured and heal in one day, it just don't happen like that, takes patience. Pryzbilla will be ready Friday, so that's a good start and Roy I'm unsure about, especially with all the talk about him not being healthy again and reducing his minutes, but you never know. I'll still be a fan regardless of all there faults. Besides, with all the injuries and missing players they still held a winning record and it's still the beginning of the season. I still have faith in them. Wait and see what they do during the holidays.

    didnt see the game.
But between aldridge and miller there was 13 turnovers, thats not good for starts to play like that.
Cj miles, i have been promoting all summer and i knew he would become a more dominant player this year, idk if WM leaving the team had anything to do with it, but boy can my man shoot.

. Plus we on our homecourt which gives us an edge.

The homecourt advantage wasnt something the team could of relied on, the jazz have won the last 5 meetings with the BLazers, including the last 3 IN PORTLAND.
Camby did his work on the boards and i believe he remains or has moved up in top 10 leaders in rebounds, last time i checked he was 10th.
Armon played well for the short time he did, but i dont understand why Batum fouled out, he might of helped saved the game had he not. These fouls are killing off the rest of our showstoppers, we gotta keep those down.
I read that the Blazers came out in the 3rd with a 6-0 run, and in Denver they had a 11-0 run coming out of halftime. So whatever Nates tellin em in the locker room at Halftime,, its working, they just need to ride that streak, continue riding it for as long as possible.
Another factor was the rebounds, we did extremley well, as we have been doing in the previous games, but we cannot rely on that to win us the game.
Were playing well, as well as we can with our swiss cheese lineup, but we gotta do something more than just play well, idk play amazing, its the NBA right?
    Where amazing happens?

It was interesting to watch, since we did just about everything we needed to do to secure a win. I was nervous when I say that D-Will and Milsap were still on the bench mid-way through the 4th, while our starters were trickling back in. I kept say, "Take out Armon, put Dre back in, hurry, before the Utah starters come back in...get a bigger gap, go for the jugular." I knew Utah wasn't panicking at all and it worried me. When they went up by 1, I knew it was over. I got excited when we got back within 2, but the three from Miles a moment later sent everyone to the exits. I have noticed before that when we lose to high-caliber teams, it's often to someone having an unexpected career-night or extremely rare night. Last night, that was CJ. I was flat-out astonised when he sunk 3 after 3 after 3. It was just too much to recover from. We played pretty well for the most part, and it was a tough loss, but a far better game all-around than our previous outings against them. It was not an embarrassment, IMO. Disappointing though, especially when we played the boards so well and killed them in the paint.

Matt Hughes gotta hang it up brudda. He gets marbles in his head when he gets hit now. Kinda like Ken Shamrock at the end of his career. Hughes is a major pioneer of MMA, and was unbeatable in his prime, but he should definately retire from prize fighting. The dome can only take so much.
Oh yeah, Blazers.....is that the 3rd time at home where the Blazers looked bad and threw away a big lead in the 4th with poor shooting? That's a heavy strain on the home faithful, and something I hope the Blazers can fix. It's understandable though with our main assassin sidelined with an injury, but we used to have another guy that was good at scoring in pressure situations. Ya'll remember what his name is don't ya'??
    Yup, Jerryd Bayless

Give me a break. Bayless was not good at scoring in pressure situations! I thought at least you were gonna say Outlaw. Bayless was good at driving in and missing layups, getting blocked, committing offensive fouls, throwing the ball away and occasionally scoring.

And though Lamarcus has definitely improved on his game when it comes to going to the hoop, he still doesn't really produce much in the fourth. Maybe he needs some more time since it is really recent that we depend on him more often in the 4th now that Brandon is very limited, I'm not sure. And he needs to do something about his butter fingers!

Also the last two fouls on Batum were ridiculous! Especially the last one. You are gonna foul a guy out for that? I thought he was getting more respect from the refs but obviously I was mistaken.

And Matt Hughes is fine. He was just doing really good, but he went up against BJ Penn!! Which is funny because his last two fights he looked like garbage, but BJ is the man.
