As the biggest Oden fan on this site, this pains me to say, but "It's over." 4 years in the NBA, 2 completely wiped out due to microfracture, and the other 2 were injury riddled as well. There's not a doubt in my mind, he was our game-changer, our ticket to a championship, and the right call at the time of the 07 draft, but we have to be realistic here. And if we are being realistic, then I see no way this team gets out of the 2nd round without a dominant Greg Oden.

Roy is already showing signs that his knees won't be able to hold up and without your two most talented players, what's there to play for? The worst situation in professional sports is mediocrity--not quite good enough to make a run for a title and not quite bad enough to make a splash in the draft. If this team wants to have ANY championship aspirations, we better start over. Right now. I don't want to see us fight and claw to 45-50 win seasons for the next 5-7 years only to get bounced in the 1st round. We need to stink for a while and build through the draft.

Right now, I'd deal Camby and Andre to contenders for young players or draft picks. I'd never think of trading them if we were healthy, but at this stage in their careers, they deserve to play on contenders. Hand the keys of the offense over to Armon and see how he matures throughout the season and give Wesley big minutes. not only is Wesley still just 23-24 years old, but no one will touch his contract so let's see if he has more 30 point nights let in him. Run Luke out there some. We need to see what we have in this young buck. Finally, run the show through Batum and see if he's capable of becoming a legit #1 option. If so, keep him. If not, only trade him for a top 3-4 pick in the draft. To win in the NBA, you need superstars and right now, Portland is looking for one.

Always a Trail Blazers fan no matter what but I really do think it's time to start from scratch. Anyone got any other rebuilding ideas/strategy?

On the plus side, we have some of the best draft scouts in the league, so all we need to do is get the team in position to pick some of these stars!

The injury to Elliot Williams really is another jab to the gut. If we were to have a poor season, I would have really loved to seen him out there on the court. From what little I've see of him live and on tape, he's raw, but he has a ton of potential.

    @Fallen_Diety

What's the point anymore? Oden was our Golden Ticket to the Finals and we lost it. You can't get to the Finals without a Golden Ticket. Roy and Aldridge are a nice duo, but not elite enough to carry us to a championship. I'm all about titles, if we don't have a chance with this current bunch, then hit the restart button. The last thing I want to do is to be stuck like we were from 93-98, first round and done, and no young talent on the way.

I mean, look at last year. We fought like nobodies business and got those 50 wins. But the end result was another first round loss and no real damage made at the draft, stuck picking at #22.

Oden was our golden ticket to the finals, yes, but there are other things we can rebuild.

Resign Oden.  He'll stop having surgeries after this one.
    Resign Dante.

Put Rudy, Joel, and Dante to PHI, get Iggy.

You now have Iggy behind Roy, Mathews behind Batum.

Sign a center to get it done.  Any center.

Roy still has a good 5-6 years in him, at least.  We could get a Championship in 1-2 years.

Why try to rebuild when Oden will be healthy again NEXT YEAR and Roy still has a lot in him.  He was a beast, and the beast only got a bit weaker.  As far as I'm concerned, he's still putting up great numbers, same with Oden.  Roy doesn't need to develop much more to be a Championship player.  As far as I'm concerned, he's consistent, and needed help in 2009 when he played in the playoffs against Houston.

We've got a great team, even without Oden, that proved a lot.

Trading away everything, when we've gone so far so fast with these players, is simply giving up on these players that worked their butt off to contend.

Andre is also a free agent after this season.  He can leave if he wants to.

Even with a rebuild, you most likely start with Greg Oden.  He's all the sudden gone from a player that may have been offered a mid level salary to probably not getting an offer by anyone this summer.  In a way it can be looked on as a good thing.

At least it is a win-win for the summer signing.  We can sign G.O. to a cheap offer this summer.  There doesn't need to be any high expectations.  If he needs more surgery or isn't the player we all once envisioned, it won't be a heartbreak because he will be making the money of a 10th-12th man on the bench.  If he happens to be explosive and help, then we get a good player for next to nothing.  Does anyone have a problem giving him a few million a year (cheap in NBA big man terms) just in case.

Also if you want to see what else you have, you don't give up in the middle of the season on the rest of the team.  If the franchise heads say we are not good enough to compete, it sends a bad message to the young players that there is no need to compete.  Keep pushing to just make the playoffs at this point and then see who truly has the heart to step up in the face of adversity.  Then weigh your options after the season.

Just trying to stay positive on a very tough day as a Blazers fan.

well its just unfortunate for the blazers, organization and the fans to see it go down like it has for us, its just not our time and not our luck, you gotta face it this organization has made plenty mistakes starting with cp3 that we could have got and who knows how would our future go from there. we just not quite lucky enough, maybe there is a curse on this franchise cuz this is just insane how everything goes for this team. lol maybe its just the location where the team is at. seems like nobody can stay healthy, maybe it just rains too much and bones get weaker lol.. idk i say we start from scratch cuz we wont get anywhere in 3 yrs anyways so just leave 4-5 good young promising guys and send the rest out like that guy said miller nd camby to contender teams cuz thats why they r here and thats what we were considered as.

    Its time to start rebuilding.
Keep Johnson, Matthews, Fernandez, Batum, Babbitt, Aldridge, & Cunningham, basically all of the young talent.
Build through the draft and trades.
Lets face it, Roy's meniscus is gone. Meniscus acts as a shock absorber when you run or jump, he has none left.
He could be a decent bench player at best, but for $82 million over 5 years? I don't think so.
However, we could wait until mid-season, to see how things pan out before making any drastic decisions.
Fire Mcmillan, fire the medical & training staff, this franchise needs to be completely rebuilt from the inside out lol. We should have promoted Monty Williams as head coach.

Mcmillan is a great coach but not good enough for the blazers. Training stuff for sure needs to be kicked out. Im sure something is been under work right now, we just cant see it or hear it. Its been done behind the closed doors with Miller, Cho and P.Allen. This cho dude is kinda quite though, you never hear anything from him.. Maybe thats a good thing, he's probably locked in his room doing some serious thinking right now and scratching his head how to make blazers champions! but we can easily do it by draft system, get rid off vets nd other pieces... lose hella lot games for next 2 yrs.. draft another number 1 pick and top 5 and we back in biz for page 2 of our journey rise with us part 2 lol

NO WAY, DO NOT BLOW THIS TEAM UP!!!!! Let's wait to see where we are when Joel get back, Roy's knee is rested, and how W.M. plays consistently. I think we have a pretty good team now, not championship, but still pretty good to contend for a spot in the playoff's. This is what you want as an organization, Financially speaking and this trumps all other concerns.

I think I'm with my man Bertram - not ready to throw the towel in at this point, need to let it sink in. The manaagment needs to time to think with a clear mind after the emotion subsides. I know we don't get to make the decisions, but I think we too need to just keep cheering the team and be patient. Who knows what the players are thinking in terms of their future on this team and all that - I think we as fans may need a few more days or even an entire week to really realize the situation, though, of course, sadly, we've become used to bad news, but I don't think any team and it's fans deserve this, not even the Lakers (that's saying something coming from me).

Most importantly, it's about G.O. and how he is dealing with it, so I really wish him well and hope he can keep it together mentally after such a long battle with the injuries, which must have taken a toll, whether he said so or not, though I think he's done a good job thus far given everything.

I have to agree with this. Dont blow it up yet we have until February. We have absolutly nothing to lose right now. Everyone to include 3/4 of the people that post here have already signed us up for a #1 lottery pick. I am kind of thinking that it would be a good time to evaluate our Kids and see who wants to play ball.

We dont have to do anything. Look, next year may be a good time to get draft picks if we get lottery position. Oden wont certainly have suitors since he's value have gone terribly low. We can resign him again next year with not much increase. By next year, he should be healthier than ever. We can rest Roy now so he'll be healthier next year and have Luke and Armon get the experience they need. This may be a good time for Rudy to get hot
again. Someone here replied to trade Miller and Camby now, that would be good but we need certified stars. The salary of those two and the expiring contract of Pryz can certainly nab 1 or 2 all-star caliber players. And next year will be RIP CITY year, A healthy Williams, Roy and Oden, A seasoned Fernandez, Matthews, Batum, Aldridge, Cunningham, Babbitt, Johnson, A couple of All-Stars, A couple of first rounders. What do you think guys?

Definitely NOT time to give up and start over. Not even close. I thought at the beginning of the season, and still think now, that Wesley is a key piece to the Roy/Aldridge partnership. He can only improve from here, and he is already showing signs of his potential to be great.

The league is already showing a trend towards more small ball, less inside dominance, I think we are doing exactly what we need to be doing to ride out this time.

What is this give up attitude everyone has? never give up.. It can be done and we are the team that can do it! In the face of advercity, rolling over and dieing is not an option! Rise up to challenge and show the world what your made of. situations like these deffine you as a team, player and person. Ya the future is weary and some think investing for the future is the best option, but It's way to early and way to passive.

In one think I agree with ClydeFrog  " We need superstar " to get the finals again, so waiting for next wins :-)  We should check possibilities of trades and wait ...

for all roy has done for the blazers why just bench him? he is still great, he will just need to drive less and shoot more which he is more than capable of doing, and oden has had bad luck but i say sign him because he was a stud for us when he was on the court. and starting over when we have a young talented team doesnt even make a little sense, and nate is great coach, its not his fault so many players are getting hurt.

Like you claim to be the largest Oden fan here, but im sorry if you havent noticed, but the Blazers made it to the Playoffs WITHOUT HIM!
Everything the Blazers have done, is without ODEN!
    Surprisingly.
The team is really unchanged, there is no difference.
Oden wasnt in the picture last year, and whatta you know, he aint coming back this year, BIG SURPRISE?
    i think not.

Hate to say it, but I feel more strongly than ever about rebuilding. Roy looks completely done. Camby is showing his age and is now just there to rebound. Andre hasn't been getting into the lane like he once did. Heck, even my boy Batum looks lost.

You got to know when to hold them and know when to fold them. Right now we need to be realistic and fold them. This draft is going to be epic and let's jut hope we get some draft lotto luck!

haha funny that this thread got brought back up... and i said from the beginning i guarantee we'll make the playoffs there is no need to rebuild... what are we gonna rebuild from??? NOTHING RIGHT NOW. There is no answer unless you want to trade away the only good players we have which is very stupid, seeing as how they are all young "future" pieces. Some fans act out of emotion wayyyy to much

Actually its time to CONTINUE to build. we are a playoff team so we need to use the DRAFT (which the franchise hasn't been so good in, although they have gotten good players) to get good players to help this team get to the top. If we draft the right people and Roy and ~Oden~ are healthy and can still produce we will be competing  in West Finals and Finals for years to come.

I say wait a few years/next year to determine if its time to rebuild. Blazers might contend depending on who is healthy and how they produce. If the Team needs to rebuild in a couple of years we wont be able to afford any more bad draft picks.
