I think this team needs some spankin'. It's just that it came in the form of Charles Barkley. Maybe the language he used was not proper, but what he said will only prove him right if the team won't get any better. It all boils down to either the team prove Charles Barkley wrong or sulk in the corner and lose games.

On the side note, if he says that the blazers are the NBA's most overrated team, what he said might also be a compliment. It is because he acknowledges that the Blazers have something to boot, and that this team is recognized nationally just that it doesn't come in the form of nationally televised games.

How are the blazers overrated? I don't hear no nba anaylist bragging about them. Other then the laker commentators saying that the blazers are a real threat in the west. 

Charles is a hypocrite, (mod edit-no masked swearing allowed). He always come to TNT drunk thats why he studders half the time he talks. 

What type of person says "Michael jordan is rolling over in his grave" when he ain't even dead...that guy is messed up in the head. 


He was the same guy talkin (mod edit-no masked swearing allowed) about celtics ALLLLLL last season saying how old they are and how "old people don't get healthy, they die". They made it to the finals anyway, so i wouldn't take half the things charles say serious. It's likely that he don't even know what he said, ol drunken (mod edit-language).

But we were overrated, I overrated us based on our "potential." Potential doesn't win ball games, either does ratings, what wins ball games is grit, fight, and struggle - in the actual full season. We have shown none CONSISTENTLY. Look at Utah or OKC Or Dallas these teams are living up to what people said about them, we are going backwards.

Sure, there are injuries and that is the reason why we are NOW looked at as overrated. We were never really measured on our real time ability, but what we looked like in flashes and potentialities. No one really knows what the core of this team could accomplish over a whole season, all the critics can do is judge on "ifs" and we did the same all summer on this blog (remember the Polls we all voted in, I was convinced we were going to win it all or dam close).

Now we are struggling a bit, because injuries are still the PROBLEM with this team and people are saying we are Overrated - OH no sh*t, really, did you figure that out all by yourself Chuck?

Point is - it is to easy to criticize the blazers on a false measurement and not a real measurement. We would be overrated if we had all our players healthy and we didn't make the Playoffs. Until then I wish Chuck would shut his mouth by pouring gallons of cheap whiskey down his throat and eating more donuts.

I am not the biggest Charles fan, however he is fun to listen to.  He is just an over the top personality like a cartoon character.  He has his beef with portland from hi splaying days if you remember those then you wont worry about what he says.

charles is the most biased commentator in sports. I've heard rumors through out the years that the blazers offended him a long time ago when he wanted to come to portland later in his career and we didn't want him.

I kind of agree with him actually.  Other than the Mavericks I can't think of any other team that is close to as overated as the Blazers.  A lot of people expected the Blazers to maybe be the team to bring down the Lakers in the playoffs the past two years, but we didnt even make it out of the first round either time although we were the favorites.  Untill we actually do something in the playoffs, i'm going to have to agree with Barkley on this one.

We are overrated.  As some say, people think we're a threat in the West.  Get real, this team isn't a threat.  Right now we're a pretender.  My problems with the team are simple...

1) LaMarcus is still too soft
2) Roy is injured, and supposedly never going to relive the glory days
3) Nate isn't going to get us anywhere farther than a playoff appearance, where he gets outsmarted by every coach
4) Mathews, Rudy, and Batum need to stop shooting threes all the damn time.  Especially Mathews
5)Andre shouldn't be the only one cutting to the basket
6) We traded Bayless and Martell for draft picks.  We drafted Babbit yet he's keeping our bench warm.  What 16th pick keeps the bench warm?
7) We are still a jumpshot team.  We need more ball movement.  More assists.  More cuts to the rim.
8)We need Greg Oden

On paper, we're probably better than the Lakers.  On the court, we are a first round exit team.  So yeah, we're pretty overrated.  But when we get injured, like last season, we are heavily underrated.  I doubt teams however will lighten up against us after what happened last season.

In the last 10 years the Suns have gotten to the playoffs more than us, they have advanced to the semi-finals and the finals, which we have not done once. Seems to me they have been a better team than us. I don't like it, but stats don't lie. They can be deceiving, but post season win/loss records are pretty straight forward.

Those are pretty solid points my man. Idk about the on paper being better than the Lakers, but those 8 points are pretty solid.
I would limit the 3pt shooters to either one or tow of those guys, maybe Batum and Rudy or just have Rudy be shooting, but they do need to change it up, get creative.
And that brings in point number 3, they cant do that with this mono mentality that Nate runs this team with, we have seen this type of Problem before, Mike Brown with Cleveland.
And i think you made a nice point on the team being severely underrated when riddled with injuries. they should get more credit

Good point, Kassandra. Barkley is an entertainer; he's TNT's version of a court jester. I don't think he should be taken seriously. I think as our Blazer rookies get used to court time, and Batum get's his all-star instincts, and Roy dials in his role, then the Blazers will get taken seriously.

Does charles have ring no but alot of ppl dont have rings due to Jordan, the same alot of ppl dont have rings bcuz of Duncan and Kobe and now is the Age of the Superfriends. We need everyone to set aside ego, accept and excel in their roles, perfect their niche, and give 110% on the boards, on rotations, and on ball pressure. We need to go from ATL of west to Celtics. What is Aldrige but a byproduct of the Rasheed Wallace/Kevin Garnet powerforeward prototype, Batum is our Tayshaun Prince/Pippen, Matthews is our tony allen with a 3pt shot,our Natural will be The Truth bcuz of his lack of meniscus leading to a more post driven game and spot up shooting, Armon is our young Nate McMillian, Dante is our McDyss post surgery, etc, etc

I agree with most of these sentiments,but I do not believe we are pretenders,contenders for the finals no way, but a threat to any other team easy.

I also don't think one can overestimate Nate McMillan as a coach. This guy is making No excuses, and playing well with  the players that are healthy. That's worth some respect.

Agreed on 1 , kind of on 3 and 4, 5, 7 and 8.  But on 2, I think it is very premature to say that roy will "never relive the glory days".  He is still very young and this is his first major injury of his career.  On 4, right now they are not shooting threes as well as they ussually do, but all of them are over 35 % three point shooters for their careers.  Also I agree with you on 6 unless we use these draft picks in a trade.  I dont think we need any more young players on this roster since experience wins championships, but draft picks, expiring contracts and young talent are the three things that are most usefull in trades, so since we have all three of those things we could possibly pull off a huge blockbuster trade.  Also that is just ridiculous to say that the Blazers are better than the Lakers on paper.  Really the only position where the Blazers have the advantage is pg.  I think the lakers bench is better than the Blazers too once Bynum returns.  The Lakers will have a second unit of Blake, Shannon Brown (one of the more underated players in the leaugue in my opinion), Matt Barnes, Lamar Odom, and Theo Ratliff.  If they had a better backup center than Rtaliff that could be a reasonably solid starting unit.  I think the Lakers have the best team in the leaugue on paper besides possibly the celtics.

Dude, it's not hard to figure it out. She forgot to put the word KNOW in there. As in "what would he know about a winning championship".

Barkley has been spot on over the last 2-3 years with one thing.  This Blazers team is going nowhere without post play at the offensive end.  I will agree.  He is a joker.  He is paid to be a joker though.  The point he has made several times though about this Blazer team needing a post presence is ABSOLUTELY CORRECT.

I dunno, but I don't care what Barkley thinks personally, I've heard him talk smack about his former team the Suns awhile ago. And the funniest thing I heard Barkley do was before Yao Ming became big news, he was so sure that if Yao Ming scored over 20 points in this one game (during Yao's rookie season) that he would kiss a donkeys a$$. Sure enough, Yao Ming scored over 20 and right on TNT he had to do just that. What a jackass lmao ever since i don't pay much attention to what he says, he's a third wheel during the half time shows with Ernie and Kenny. He's just someone to laugh at.

LAS11921: that's exactly what i'm talking about. when i watch tnt, i know Kenny Smith knows what he's talking about because he's won it. Charles on the other hand, well, i stick by my words, and that's why i'm not too concerned with what he has to say (per the board topic).

wow, that's quite an offer with the car ... but i love my jetta!

incidentally, i am portland now. i drove up for thanksgiving break yesterday, and i'll be heading back next sunday. we're having thanksgiving, then a blazers watching party at my house on friday!

okay guys, yes; a mercedes is a mercedes and a jetta is a jetta. the thing is, my jetta has a lot of sentimental value (my dad basically built the thing for me!) ... unlike the sentimental value of a championship ring for Barkley since he doesn't have one.
