So Andre Miller had a great play the other day where he threw the ball off the backboard to himself for the score. I thought that should make ESPN's top ten, but I don't watch ESPN any more because they are a walking Laker, Lebron, Durant, and now Miami Heat fanboy ad machine. I bet it didn't make the top ten but you may correct me if I am wrong. Then I thought, well, maybe it wasn't the best play ever but it was still worthy of mentioning but I never saw it anywhere, and so I thought I could have been over excited about it.

But of course, if Kobe Bryant would have done it you know there would be a whole article about it on yahoo sports. It would probably praise his outstanding basketball IQ and his profound skills to come up with the same thing Dre already did. Then if I said this to non Blazer fans they would have told me I was crazy and overreacting because the media doesn't do that.

Except Kobe did do the same exact thing like one or two days later and guess what? Yahoo made an article about it and didn't even have the courtesy or professionalism to mention that Dre just did it as well! But no, Kobe has a huge brain and amazing skills. That is all.

dude I'm tired of people complaining that we don't get enough respect. WE LOST THE GAME, and that's what matters. Yeah, Andre is underrated.  If we would have won those two games vs. OKC, we'd be getting A LOT more respect right now, but we lost, and that's our fault.  And Tom, you think that ESPN just sweats OKC, ok... http://espn.go.com/nba/powerrankings look at those... we're ahead of OKC and they beat us twice! Those power rankings by ESPN seem just right to me. I partially agree with the Andre on ESPN thing, but we do get respect... when they show us on national TV, the other night, they said we were potentially the second best team in the west... OK THAT IS RESPECT

I'm not talking about power rankings!!!!!! I said ESPN is like an ad machine for the Lakers, Durant and Lebron, not that we are low on the power rankings, that has absolutely nothing to do with what I am talking about. I'm talking about the lack of equal coverage by the media. The truth is we could be ranked number one in everyone's power rankings and we still would not get equal time. THAT IS WHAT I AM SAYING! I'm so sad that you are tired of people complaining about not getting enough respect, but I'm tired of our team not getting respect and people misinterpreting what I say!

Also you can't say we lost the game therefore they didn't mention it, because the Lakers lost that game too and are now in a 2 game losing streak.

Bertram I agree, and I also think it is even more of surprise because Dre rarely does things like that.

Yes it was in one of their 2 losses.  His did look nicer cuz it started from the free throw line however it looked like he planned it the whole time where Dre simply improvised but Kobe had little opposition Dre had I think 3 guys around him?

And Tom, you didn't even acknowledge my point that on ESPN last week vs. OKC they did give us TONS OF RESPECT. The whole game, the praised us for our play with injuries, how good of a coach Nate is, and how we can challenge the lakers for the west title this year. HOW IS THAT NOT RESPECT? I'm not advocating we should get a bunch of highlights I was just letting Tom know his assumptions were right.  At this point in time I hope nobody sees clips of us so when we go to another city the fans think we are going to be walked over so it will be easier to get them out of the game...  Most annual playoff teams, when bottom feeders come to play the crowd is out of the game when it is close just because they expect to blow them out so if the crowd expects us to get spanked and we either stay within 5 or are ahead it takes the crowd and the homecourt advantage away.

Not true. So you are saying if the Lakers lost that game by 20 and Kobe had a triple double, or dunked on Dwight Howard, or did this same play they wouldn't have highlights?!? Actually, if the Lakers in fact did lose by 20 that would be a headline story.

I am not asking for respect. That would be a waste of time to wish for. It will never happen. That is what I am saying. And you did not acknowledge my point. I even said in my first reply to you that even if we were ranked at number one in the whole league, the media would still pay more attention to the Lakers, Durant and Lebron. So what if they said we could be the second best in the West, did they go around and interview players and then have a little public service announcement in the middle of the game to tell everyone about it? No. But they did do that for Kevin Durant in a previous game where they interviewed players from around the league and they then tried promoting Durant as the best player in the league. They are trying to get you to love Durant and by into their image of him. Look at the Thunders record, it's not that great either. And it would be worse if the refs called Durant for all the obvious offensive fouls he is getting away with. I bet Lamarcus could score like that if he could push players off of him right in front of the refs like that and then occasionally get calls on who he is pushing off on. And that is not only against us. He was doing it again last night and the refs didn't call it, and one time he even lowered his shoulder into CJ Miles and Miles was called for the foul.

Anyways, back on topic... I am not talking about what they say about us during games (nationally televised, which are actually fewer than other certain teams), I'm talking about things like sportscenter, where they will show you highlights of games and give us like a 15 second segment for our game, and then they go on and give the Lakers a 2 minute story and break everything down play by play. I'm talking about yahoo sports where even if the Lakers lose they are the main story all the time. Or even about nba.com where you would think they would be a little more unbiased. You are talking about one game where they said some nice things. I didn't watch that game on ESPN so I didn't get into it, but since you insist I bet the whole time they were talking about what the Thunder should do to win. "The Thunder are down, here's what Durant needs to do to get back in it" or "The Thunder are up here's what they are doing well to be ahead of this team that has struggled through injuries".

I remember the 90-92 Blazers were easily among the top 3 teams in the league, and we got no where near the same coverage as the Lakers, Celtics or the Bulls in the national media. You can argue all you want but the fact is we do not receive the same coverage as the those teams, even if we are among the best in the league. It's been going on for 20+ years. So don't come at me with one little game where they said a few nice things about us.

Another perfect example, on yahoo there is a title to an article which states

    End of the line

Kevin Durant finally shut the door on the Jazz's comeback streak.

Except I watched that game and no way did they win that because of Durant. He didn't do squat in the 2nd half except get obvious calls/non calls in his favor. One time he lowered his shoulder like a linebacker into CJ Miles and Miles was called for the foul. Should have been an offensive foul on KD. Absolutely ridiculous! Then he hacked the hell out of Kirilenko's arm when they could have tied the game at the end and whoops... no call.
And with all the BS calls aside, it was actually Westbrook that won the game for them.

Portland is a small market team, always has been, always will be. I'd advise anyone to not waste their time getting their hopes up for national media attention. It's just never going to happen. Once in a while, they'll show us love, but for the most part, the national media focuses on the major markets and major players. Besides, national media isn't all that knowledgeable (well, some are but you catch my drift), so who cares if they love us or hate us?

Durant is pretty good, he seems like a good guy as well off the court, but they definitely over hype him because they are banking on him. Like that win over the Jazz, it really was Westbrook taking over in the fourth. And seriously, Durant was getting away with murder. Like he does all the time now. I cant help but think how good Brandon would be if he got calls or non calls like that. That's why I still think Brandon is actually better (when healthy) but you would never even know how good he is by the media because he plays here and isn't a prolific scorer or the most exciting to watch.

Actually the Andre Miller off the backboard play was the #2 sportscenter play of the day.  We get love when we deserve it.  If we move to a motion offense with real sets, instead of isolation plays we will get more opportunities for sportscenter highlights.  Oh, and some defense would be good to setup fast breaks.  I'm so tired of working so hard for a fade-away jump shot, only to give up a layup or offensive put back on the other end.  I miss Joel, but it's not just one player, the entire team has to be committed to keeping the other team out of the paint and off the boards.  OKC killed us with that this year already.  Early playoff exit if we even make it unless we change the strategy.

Well of course it wasn't number one though, I wonder who it was at number one? Kobe? Lebron? Durant? That was another thing I forgot to say. We'll have a game winning shot at the buzzer and it won't get number one. It will get number two because Lebron did a no look pass in a losing effort. But at least it made the list I guess.

They dont win games consistently, they take horrible care of themselves and their players, and their fan base cries so much that if they acknowledged them, then the fan base would repeatedly cry out untill they got their attention.
The news is about freedom of speech, not true facts and correct stories, ESPN likes to please the people who watch it, not everyone who watches ESPN is a basketball fan, and ESPN doesnt have enough time to cover every single team.
