If Roy's injury is 2 months+ what do you expect from the season?
Keep expectations the same, 2nd round or bust (40)
     63%
Toss expectations out the window, it's time to rebuild (3)
     5%
Lower expectations, 1st round exit (14)
     22%
Raise it up, it's championship time! (6)
     10%
We don't know the extent of what's up with BRoy's knee, but whatever it is it's not great. He got iced during the game last night and had his knee drained twice already this season...

What do you think an extended injury to Roy would mean for the Trail Blazers' season?

If it is only a two month+ injury and he can return to form then it is not time to rebuild (ahem... KIM!) but it is going to curtail expectations for this year. Yes it is a team sport, but you need an elite player to get you through the tough times in the reg season and the playoffs.

If he is permanently going to be this way though then it is time to rebuild. I really hope that is not the case though because Roy is a great player and a great person.

I can understand the concerns with Oden, but if you want to scrap this team and trade Brandon already I have no idea how any one can call themselves a true Blazer fan!

Here's to Brandon getting healthy as quickly as possible.

I'd just try and develop all of our young talent. Luke, Armon, Dante, Wesley, Rudy, Nico..etc Give them all time to shine and let's see what we've got.

And yes, while basketball is a team spot, certain players are much more critical to the team's overall success. Take Howard off of Orlando or Rose off of Chicago and you have nothing. Heart, hustle, grit, etc can only take teams so far. You do need that franchise player to ride to the promise land.

It just means that we get a chance to mature as a team which will be better when Roy is healthy he will know and have faith in what his teamates are capable of by seeing them fight and execute and flourish to make up for his absence.  He will be able to differ to teamates better

Our season is not over!!!!!! We can play without Roy, maybe not the same, but we could still be pretty good.
I remember Roy was out the first Game against Phoenix last year and we looked pretty good.
My point is that we can play a different style of ball that fit's the young runners.
I think Andre Miller would like to push the ball a little more and we know Batum and L.A. are great if they go to the basket.
For a Big man Camby can still get up and down the court pretty well.
I agree Roy is the heart of this team and we have relied on him to do it for us a little to much, but I don't think the others will lay down and die now that the team might go without Roy.
I really think Rudy will step it up now and get the swagger and confidence with the minutes he will gain. I watched him the other night and with the more time he had on the court the better he looked. I know he failed us in the play offs last year, but I'm willing to hope he won't this year.
It could be a year where scrap and doing things outside of the "plan" nate had for this team could be very exciting to watch.
I'm excited to see what happens - NOW THIS IS ENTERTAINING!!!!!

think about all the other good guys we scrapped, Outlaw, Blake, Pendergraph? They were great guys that contributed so much, but we did what we had to do to improve the team right? So I don't see it as a bad thing if Portland Considered to trade roy and get talent back to make the team better. His knee problems won't go away forever. It would always linger around and affect his game. As for Oden, I don't know I'd say sign a short term deal with him and let him sit out for this season and have him just workout and stay in shape. Save him for next year, because Joel P. is where it's at!

Over and over and over again we see Blazers stepping up when the team needs them. B Roy certainly has, but he doesn't have to be a superstar every minute he plays. And he doesn't have to be the ONLY superstar.
It sucks that we're always having to battle injuries, and it would be fabulous to have a season that was comparatively free of them. But if any team can handle Roy's recuperation it's the Blazers. We've already seen this season some really impressive play even from The New Guys. That's a good thing!

I think its hard on blazers fan to keep on waiting for our players to come back healed when one comes back two more leave or just never come back and keep on getting re-injured.. this team is top 10 right now even without roy but maybe if we could make a nice trade but then its all pointless cuz clearly i dont blazers right reaching WC finals this year.. sucks for roy though im sure blazers organization are very dissapointed how things turn out for them.. personally i wanted durant i even hung for him when we had that poster on i 84..

I feel bad for him, that's gotta kill him.
...Unless he's just pulling the wool over our eyes, I mean what a coincidence he start's his first season on his new 82 million $ contract his knee "starts" killing him....

But if that ain't the case I really do feel bad for him, everybody pray Roy's knee gets better!

Voted to toss expectations out the window...however don't think it time to push the panic button with rebuilding YET.  Keep in mind, that we as fans, are unaware of a great many facts and circumstances that guide the decisions made by the "powers that be".

The bigger concern fans, is the future of this franchise.  I was at the Pistons game.  After paying $15 dollars to park (up from the $10 it was opening night and all of last season) a half a mile away, we entered the Garden and found our seats.  Couldn't help but quickly notice the many empty seats.  I had paid full price for my seats and had heard that the Blazers were moving tickets at half price for that game, obviously in an attempt to keep the sell-out streak alive.  TWO very bad signs my friends.

Couple those signs with the max contract of one BRoy, tying up necessary cash for retooling, and for how many years?  As mentioned, even if we are to get lucky with a lottery pick in the near future, where will the money come from to pay said player after his rookie contract is up?  Roy will still be on the books.

I am remembering all of the heat PA took from all of the local media, and from the fanbase as well, back during the Roy contract negotiations.  He was criticized for "dragging his feet" during that process and questions were asked as to why.  Later, it would be rumored that Paul had concerns about BRoy's knees and the LENGTH of the contract he and his agent were seeking.  How sad.  It was Allen's money to spend, and in the end...spend he did.  Noone has more of a reason to be upset right now than Paul Allen.  Frustrated, might be a better word.

As I've stated here over the summer several times, the pieces were not placed around Roy fast enough.  With his admirable work ethic and personality, this was inevitable.  However, admittedly, this is all unfolding even before I thought it would.  LaMarcus, while a nice piece, is obviously not a second option.  MAYBE a third, sometimes even a forth.  Who then has been the second (and sometimes third)?  The guy all too willing to put the entire team on his shoulders.  Brandon.  The body can only endure so much.

I'm worried about THE BIGGER PICTURE, and so should all of you be.  A Blazer fan to the end, and a Brandon fan for life

I voted "Keep the expectations the same"

I think when people have doubted this team, the team has gone beyond the call of duty and made a valiant effort given the circumstances. It seems people forget what this team has done - I think each situation with injuries is a microcosm of the attitude towards the team. Maybe it's not realistic to keep the same expectations, but you know, I still want to see us go beyond the first round. Maybe I will be disappointed, but maybe I won't, who knows. Humans and obviously as history has taught us, athletes can dig deep in times of adversity. We have a lot of talent on this team (I agree with DH, that if B Roy's time on the court is diminished or non-existent, though I hope not the latter) we should get these young guys going. At the least, it will prepare them for their future careers, when they will be the main guys on our or any other team.

Yes, it has been heart-breaking with the injuries the last few years, to the point where even Coach Nate has gone down and on top of that, losing Mr. Lucas certainly hasn't made the emotional aspect of it all any easier.

I just want to stay positive, as I've been a fan for far too long to really "give up." All you "fans" who think the season is over or something like that - that is pathetic. I don't know much about the intricacies of basketball, and how things work from a day-to-day basis and all the technical stuff, but I still say that we do respectably this year, record-wise. If we can have all those injuries and still get 50 wins in a tough, tough division and conference, then, hey, let's dig deep again and show our mettle - if you can do it once, then why not again?
I am a fan of Lillard, Batum, Lopez, LA and T Rob taking it to other teams!

This Blazer team has accomplished much these past two seasons despite their incredible misfortunes.  As a group, they have taken on the personality of their leader and simply overachieved.  Roy is down now, and may be out.  That is reason for concern.

On a positive...I DO believe we will all see a much more entertaining brand of basketball now.  Much more uptempo.  Just need to be realists when speculating wins/losses come March

We've yet to know the extent of B-Roy's hurt knee, but our doctors are still letting him play so hopefully it's not bad. With that said if this injury is something a little more serious, realistically we are hardly a playoff team without Brandon.

so what happens to a team that throws all the focus and attention on their starters?

I mean is he injured or not?
His knee is bothering him, what do you expect  when you threw the guy into a playoff game 8 days after surgey last year, and when the team lost in the playoffs, they said" hey Brandon, we are just gonna need you to work extra hard this summer, like, harder than before."

With Roy either out or just reduced minutes it will do great things for this team....We have young, energetic talent that needs to be set free from the "stand around and watch" offense.   Let Andre create....Rudy lob to Aldridge....Camby start a fast break and dribble half court and kick it to Armon in the corner for Threeeee!!! Anyway...you get the picture....this team functions best at a faster pace.  The season is young, blaze a new trail Portland !

Few things I find hmm....not right. Roy actually rehabbed the RIGHT knee first after resting it before doing any strength and conditioning. With that said it was his choice to take on a more rigorous off-season than from the previous seasons.

The injured knee is the LEFT one this time around.

Well what happens a lot is these guys think they are good to go and they end up overcompensating for their recently injured knee that is not as good as they think it is and the good knee gets way overworked. I'm hoping that is all that has happened to Brandon. There really isn't anything like competing in an actual game and maybe that is why it is just becoming noticeable. I don't know, I'm just hoping this is what has happened because then hopefully he won't be out with something serious. I hope Brandon can come back to be normal soon though, or at least really close to what he was in 08-09.

Roy just needs to suck it up and keep playing how he should be playing.  I don't care if he has a sore knee.  He needs to stop making excuses and just be aggresive.  I meen kobe had a broken finger and knee problems last year but he still was able to get the lakers a championship and almost win mvp.  I'm not saying that is normal or that we should expect the same out of Roy but i definately think he should be scoring at least 15 every game at above 40% shooting considering how minor his injury is.

also if we are going to make it through roys recent problems we need to start playing matthews more instead of rudy.  Rudy has been pretty explosive on offense recently but he just cannot defend at all.  We arent going to win games against good teams with rudy playing playing more minutes than matthews and roy

Well unlike lebron and wade last year, Brandon roy has a actually GREAT supporting cast. We also got a potential future all star by the name of lamarcus aldridge. If this guy was a better rebounder and could get 9 - 12 rbpg and average around 18 - 22 he'll make the all star team.

We have batum who is vastly improving, wesley matthews if anything was insurance for brandon roy. He started for the JAZZ last 29 games of the season. If you start for jerry sloan as a rookie you're doing something GREAT. So if we had no wes matthews, i'd think we'd be pretty screwed. But wes matthews helps on nights were roy can't play or the nights roy may not play well or limited minutes.

If we get a healthy & productive oden & pryzbilla back in the line up then that will only increase our chances.

I think we're capable of getting to the conference finals if everyone plays at the top of there game and if Brandon roy is healthy. I really feel sorry for that guy, it's like he can't get a break. He just wants to play basketball but struggles going through 1 entire season being healthy.

Get well soon roy! I'll keep you in my prayers big bro!

i guess you can look at this in two ways. Sloan is great dont get me wrong.
But he is the coach with the most post season victories without a title, so good, and bad at the same time.
Aldridge plays like an All star, sometimes, but he still somehow cannot become one.
Batum is the same way, if anything Batum and Aldridge are the two most HYPED up players i have ever heard about..
Matthews isnt a sure thing, he is still young, and he doesnt play consistanly and to have that come in for Roy, i mean.... cmon.
A healthy Oden and Joel, and this thread wouldnt even exist.

Well hopefully we'll get to see Patty Mills play more than 1 or 2 minutes as seems to be the case this season, I think everyone forgets what he did to the US team in his first olympic games and how outstanding he was for St Mary's. Right now with Roy out this should be his opportunity to shine instead all we see is DNP against his name, don't understand what the coach is up to or if he has an issue with Patty but I think he's forgotten he exists.
