    Via Oregon Live-
This season, Roy has appeared to be a much different player while averaging nearly 39 minutes a game. Once an explosive and crafty penetrator, Roy has become a jump shooter.

After Tuesday’s shootaround, Roy said his game and his approach have changed because of his body.

“Does it concern me? Yeah,’’ Roy said. “I would love to play more minutes and have a much better body, but it’s just not the case, so I have to try and make the most of what it is. I had a phone call yesterday and in talking to a few people, it is somewhat of a reality check. This is what it is, and now you have to make the most of it.’’

Coach Nate McMillan said he will begin to monitor Roy’s minutes, but he didn’t have a set limit in mind. In the past, McMillan has wanted to keep Roy at about 35 minutes a game, but has often found himself playing him close to 40 because Roy is such a valuable player.

Roy, in my opinion, hasn't looked like the B-Roy of old, so at least this may be an explanation on why. But this is why we have Wesley, Rudy, and Nico to help take some of the burden off of Roy. I hope we are able to limit some of his minutes. What do you guys think?

Well lets see...26 years old, and my body is worn out. 85 million dollars, I only want to work part time. I dont have a defensive game anyway. Must be nice.

WM and Nic can both score, imo, if the Blazers can run an offense where it's not all " Roy needs the ball in his hands " or LA.  Roy will not be valuable at all injured.   Be careful what you wish for :)

Get a big man priority #1 since LA is next ......

I'm concerned that he thinks he's not 100%, meaning that hamstring injury is still there annoying him. You also have new players trying to get integrated into the Blazer system, find some sort of comfort level and a basic role.

Asking Roy to be the player he was from two years ago is pretty much asking for that team back now, as the article mentioned totally different team.

I'm pretty sure Roy misses having Blake in the backcourt, someone who was a shooting threat to keep the defense honest.

We traded the wrong Blazer to the Hornets. It was key to our system having Brandon #2 causing ruckus off the bench.
But NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! "Why would we trade Rudy? He's playing terrific."
Cho, this is your fault buddy. Have fun with your 25th pick in the draft after trading Bayless for it.

I have to agree. Bayless is exactly who we could use right now -- a scoring guard who can score at the rim or at the foul line. Hopefully AJ can get a little more assertive on offense and drive to the rim like he did in Phoenix to replace some of that offensive punch that we miss from Jerryd.

Well, I for one must admit I am confused. All the pre-season reports stated Brandon had been working hard and is injury free and felt great and now this? He is a young man just like MOST of our team is. That is why I do not understand all the talk of "the team was tired" talk when we lose games. Makes no sence to me at all when players are getting paid to stay in good, healthy condition and contribute 100% on the floor? Now don't read me wrong...I love the guys on this team and I think the potential for a very dangerous basketball team is just around the corner, but we can't start making excuses after a couple in the "L" column. If Brandon IS hurting he needs to tell someone and get it repaired now, not when it get's worse. I will tell you what I have seen so far...the lack of the killer instinct in any of the Blazers eyes! They just seem to be going through the motions on the court and not really stepping on the throttle like they were. Maybe is the passing of Big Luke that has them down right now...or maybe the loss to OKC took the air out of them...but in the Laker game they ALL looked horrible and uninterested.

Sorry I got off track, but Brandon did not have his best game vs the Lakers neither...and he IS our leader. I just sure hope he is not hiding anything because he is afraid of letting the team down. If he is hurt, we all need to know...

    peace out,
    daddy

First Roy wanted the ball more...NOW he wants to play less? Make up your mind Brandon! Ugh, I like him so much as a player, but lately he has been driving me bananas! Roy is on thin ice with me. The straw that will break this camel's back will be if Roy continues to not look for Greg when the big man returns. Until then...

So, this guy says he is tired but he is only 26! I do not hear LMA complaning about being tired and i think he is playing more or about the same minutes as Brandon! I am hoping there isn't something behind the scenes going on because we are going to need Brandon. Let's hope tonight goes a lot better than Sunday did.

This is upsetting news! At least that article lets me better understand what the problem is with Brandon, yet like people are replying on here it's hard to justify why he came out in pre-season mentioning how he wants the ball more, and quotes like "the time is NOW". Now I understand the schedule has been grueling but still to say you want less minutes now seems like there must be something more behind the scenes, or truly he is a proud person and is admitting that although he would like to play more minutes his body simply won't let him.

I don't think any of us should question his determination to play, as we saw that last year when he came back in the playoffs among other times. Yet on the same page for one who has had to struggle financially while being a full time student and work full time it seems ridiculous to be 26 yrs old and have the paycheck he does just to simply ask for less hrs. But all professional sports players are paid an absurd amount of money while school teachers get cut all the time. I'll save that rant though.

Tonight's game is a must win imo, simply for the mental stability going into the upcoming road trip as well as for us faithful fans. Let's hope we can see Rudy come back tonight and take on a lead scoring role, along with L.A. crashing the boards and The Hammer driving to the hoop. Let's just hope for some all out heart and hustle. GO BLAZERS!!!

It's easy to forget that these are young men, not machines. Lest we forget, they have all, Brandon Roy particularly, battled hard and frequently successfully against adversity and nay-saying over the past year. You can't do that indefinitely, and you can't play hurt forever, either; you can't lose teammates and coaches with whom you worked well, without floundering a little.

We see evidence that Rudy has gotten his head straight, Joel is rarin' to go, Batum and Aldridge have gained in assertiveness; Oden's first comeback showed so much growth and maturity, there's every reason to expect the second comeback will be equally impressive.

The bottom line is that this is a smart young team, a group of players with heart and integrity. B Roy exemplifies this. Yeah, maybe he hasn't played like it lately, but he's the same guy he's always been, and he deserves a chance to get his rhythm and his head back in the game. He deserves our support and understanding.

this is why i thought it was dumb to get rid of Bayless, the one guard who was really broken in to blend with the blazers, not we have to rely on matthews to step in for both bayless AND Roy. I knew Roy would be over burdened after all these player changes we've been making. I hope he gets better soon :(

maybe we can put some effort into finding a new center, seeing as how portland is where centers come to die. This would alleviate some pressure on Roy!

Ha. These scallywags are never going to let go of oden, because his "potential" is greater than the countless dollars the team throws at him for sitting down.
Man Oden is a great sitter, i wish i could sit like him. He has great form, sitting form, its purely amazing. Ha.
Oden has created an even greater "potential" to sit.
    hahaha.

I think that this team needs bench players, to "alleviate some pressure on the Starters" Obviously brandon cant go out and score every night, now we know his body certiainly cant do it.
Aldridge can score alot of points but at the cost of missing half of is shots.
Andre showed that he can still score, his shot selection is completely horrible, but perhaps a 7' will lay him out soon an he will understand.
Wesley Matthews, well i dont know what to say about him, because honestly he doesnt do ANYTHING. Like what has this cat done since he's been here?
The children are still too young to rely on, or to put the pressure of scoring upon, and i dont think any of them could handle such a role. Armon's got some game, but idk.

This team needs someone who can be a captain for the bench, to create rhythm, create points, i mean create a team, because frankly all the life and emotion dies when this bench goes in.

I'm just hoping Roy gets better and this isn't something serious as it seems. I'm trying to look on the bright side and what I thought of was back a few years ago when Wade was oft-injured and people in South Beach were talking about how fragile he was. The following year he got better and people started talking about MVP for him. Here's to hoping B-Roy comes back to form.

Don't push Roy to hard, just let him get between 20 min and 25 min in each game and hope and pray that he gets better soon.  It won't help if we keep pushing him hard and then he gets hurt and then we don't have him.  At least if we just decrease his minuets, then we can give Rudy and Westley the minuets they want.

I think Roy might need some time off if his Hamstring is still hurting.  It takes awhile to get the body back into NBA shape after an injury, especially since Roy played on it.

If Roy's tired then rest him now (early in the season).
Otherwise expect him to log minutes that correlate to the max contract he received.

What are you guys talking about? His hamstring should not be still hurting! That is almost impossible unless he is flat out trying to keep it injured or he recently re-injured it. If anything is still lingering maybe it is his knee which he had surgery on then came back and played on after only 8 days!

I think there are a few things going on. One is what Jerome Kersey said (I can't remember exactly because I heard it from Michael Holton) but Brandon needs to adjust his game because the NBA has adjusted to him and he needs to adjust to playing team offense. And another thing that could be even more important for the time being, is I think it may be kinda similar to what happened to D Wade when he injured his knee in 06-07 he was not that good the next year 07-08 and everyone wrote him off but he finally rehabbed his knee and went off in the 08 Olympics and has been back to normal since 08-09. Sometimes it just takes time after certain injuries and knees can take a while to heal. I think if you have torn your meniscus you have a better chance of it flaring up if you play a bunch of minutes as well. Especially back to backs. I think he really needs time to build back up the knee to full strength and our crazy schedule isn't helping anything. If the NBA would give us a favorable schedule like they did the Lakers it would be nice too. We have 21 or 22 back to backs this year and the Lakers only have 11. That is a ridiculous difference.

This explains Everything. Roy has past his prime. His knee is bothering him and we knew from the beginning since the 06 draft picks. Roy could have been drafted higher, but Gm's and coaches knew the problem with his knee. Now after a couple of seasons its starting to break him down. Even if he rest or gets the knee repaired he wont last that long. Players in the nba with bad knees have a couple of good years and they start to go down hill.

Love Roy but I say trade Roy (while he can still play) and Miller for an Elite PG (CP3, Dwill, DRose, RRondo, or Westbrook). If we can get an elite PG, we'd have a complete team with Wes Matthews at sg, Butum at sf, LA at PF, Camby at 5. AJ will play backup pg. Rudy will come in for sg/sf. dante pf, and we wait for Joel and Oden to return.

Might as well trade roy, we wouldn't want to be stuck with a hurt player for 5 years and 82 million. That's a lot of bacon burning on the stove for too long. lol

If only we traded the 6th pick and 22nd pick for 2nd-4th pick in 05' to snag CP3 or DWill, then Picked up LA and traded roy for a top 10 pick of 07, because we could have picked up Durant and Joakim Noah.

CP3, KD, Butum, LA, Noah... MY RIPCITY DREAM TEAM.

You are crazy. Roy is not past his prime. This is all speculation and men are usually in their physical prime around 28-30 anyway. I'm hoping he has been overcompensating for his other knee that was recently operated on and this can be fixed with rest and proper rehabilitation. This seems to happen a lot in the NBA where players think they are fine and then injure themselves again because of overcompensation due to not being 100%. Also what the H is the point in bringing in an elite pg without having Roy? Wes Matthews is hardly a replacement for Roy. THAT IS STUPID. And we can't just trade him right now just like that, everyone would know the problem and the way he has been playing we wouldn't get anything equal to him. I can't believe after all that Brandon has done for this team you want to trade him before we even know for sure the depth of the problem.

And we can't go back into the past to change anything!

I can't believe you signed up just to tell us that.

NBA is a Business right? Teams Trade Players just to get better. I Love Travis Outlaw and he did a lot for portland, we discarded him like, he was nothing. I'm a little bitter so i would say trade roy. Love him but He doesn't have the Killer Instinct in him that can make portland Great. Sorry for upsetting you but it's the truth. an elite pg can make a difference. NOH has no sg and they are doing well. Bulls are doing Great without a good sg. Wes matthews shows that he can be aggressive and take it in. Remember 2 years ago, Blazers vs Rockets? We could have done better if we had players that can take it to the hoop and draw fouls. the more fouls you draw on Yao and scola, the better chance we could have won. I'm not saying roy would be replaced by Wes, but I think he can do well starting alongside an elite pg. Wes has some offense and has better D than Roy. Just cause you love the guy (ROY) doesn't mean keeping him will make us better. BTW I rushed into saying he's past his prime, he still has time to learn and get better, but his explosiveness is what made him stand out to become an allstar caliber player. With his knee(s) slowing him down, that will take away a big advantage he had. You saw it a couple of nights ago. W/o that speed, quickness, and explosiveness, Ron was able to shut him down. I hated seeing it, but he is not much better than a solid guard with bad Knees. He may be young and not at his prime yet but if he can't recover, than his game wont be anywhere near the same as the previous years.

And I know we can't change anything in the past, its something we have to live with. Just would have been nice. But Rich Cho should look for some moves to make the team better. I love the squad that Portland has, but even if everyone was healthy and even if roy was 100% I can't see Portland getting deep into the playoffs. We need a player that has the killer Instinct that gets better under pressure only then we might get a Championship.

Yeah... In case you havent noticed, when Roy was healthy he definitely had that killer instinct. And I know this is a business. That's why you wait to see the full picture before wanting to trade away your best player. And how many players get better under pressure? Consistently? There are only a handful of them and we already have one. Oh and NO is 7-0, big deal! That doesn't mean anything, it's the very beginning of the season in a matter of a few days that could change drastically. That is a poor example. Why don't you start naming off Championship teams that haven't had a good sg. Lets see... the last few Champs have had Kobe Bryant, Ray Allen, Manu Ginobili, Dwyane Wade, Rip Hamilton, Mario Elie, Michael Jordan, Clyde Drexler, Vernon Mawell, Joe Dumars... that list covers every team back until 1989! I'm pretty sure Wes Matthews is not up to that level, but Brandon is when healthy.

The bottom line is, how serious is this injury, if it is career ending then we need to look at possible trades, but maybe he just needs more time to come back. I know everyone is tired of our players rehabbing all the time, but there is nothing you can do about that and you can't rush it or it will become worse. But it is also ridiculous how many fans blow things out of proportion and turn against our top players for being hurt. It's not their fault! Injuries happen. Maybe all he needs is some extra rest.

I admit I have been hard on Brandon this season, but I didn't realize he is playing through injury.

first off manu was healthy. now look at the Spurs, still a good team but can't get deep into the playoffs because their star players constantly battle with minor injury's that set them off. Duncan has bad knee(s) and he can't play and be dominate like b4, Manu gets hurt and can't help out the team when they needed him near playoff time.

I like the idea that Broy could be ok, but I mean, if he was draining his knee throughout all season last year, and a couple times already this season, I think his knee issue will be around for the rest of his career. He might have a good stretch here and there if he rests it, or if it gets repaired maybe he can go for a good year or two before it acts up. But then again, why would anyone want to ship him off when he's no good? I mean its worst to say, "hey, you're knee ruined your came, we can't rely on you to be the go to guy know. We need to replace you and trade you when you're at your worst.." then to say "Broy you still can play and we love you, but we are going to trade you while you are still able to play."

I mean at least trading him know we can bring back talent. No one else plays like Broy, but there are a good handful of people that can get the job done on a nightly bases.

Monte ellis, CP3, DWill, Rudy Gay, Danny Granger, Tyreke evans, Melo..

These guys can help the team. Not every guy is clutch like roy but still a plus than a Roy that can shake of the hurt knee throughout his career.

Rudy now you can be happy and play lots of minutes!! hahah Man what's happening to this team, it feels like its transforming into something different, the hype is not there, the shine is gone and blazers our over shadowed by injuries. Its like some1 sped up the time for us, 1 season equaled to 5.. Miller for sure is taking over though, i just dont get it, every time blazer has a huge hype for their player they seem to never to shine. I feel sorry for Paul Allen after investing so much into this team nd it comes out to nothing..

That does not make any sense, neither does any of your logic in any part of your posts. I have no idea what you are saying about Manu. Duncan doesn't have knee problems he is just getting old!
I am a fan of comcast and the blazers making deals that keep screwing us over!! woot!

I'd be careful if i were you, people might think you ONLY WANT SUPERSTARS.....haha.
these names are too big for portland.
First off, the fans wouldnt be able to appreciate the skill that names like these offer, they get lost in the names themselves.
And secondly in order to get one of these player, or another player of this caliber, it would require trading one of portlands BELOVED starters.
Now you and i both know that NO ONE, wants to let any of these guys go
    Roy
    Batum
    Aldridge
    Oden

So now your stuck with trading away say, miller and another guy? or wesely matthews if youre lucky, and or draft picks.

I mean honestly this team needs a Travis outlaw or Martel Webster
I am a fan of The Blazers ♂, the £-Train, and of course, The ¤ King. ™

i love B-roy. if fans don't want him anymore because he seems to be hurt a lot, then let him go. There's a team who will welcome him and understand his current conditions. And I would cheer for that team and i would love to have Broy on that team. Broy is tough and clutch. He wants to win, his body is not getting along right now. If the fans can wait, other teams can and i'll go along with BROY whereever he ends up. i'm dissappointed with you guys. He deserves nothing of this, he did everything the past years eventhough you hailed ODEN as the saviour. We wouldn't be contenders the past years if not for BROY. well its the NBA, so wherever, whatever. BROY is the man.

Paul Allen said how do we get better?  I see no activity in the draft with no draft picks.  The trade possibilities are limited because of the value of our bench players.  We have no cap space.  So I think the improvement of our b...

First Game starts tonight. Houston is a tough first round opponent and they play exceptionally well at home. If we can steal a game or two at their place, I feel like we have extremely good chances.

P.S. Would anybody happen to have a...

The Blazers were winning!  That is the key word, were.  Blazers are living proof that you can live and die by the jumper.  Lately it has been dying.

Hawes will be a hot commodity by the trade deadline, I would think the sixers could find a better offer.

However, I do believe Mo Williams could have somewhat of  a high trade value. Olshey needs to make a deal to get a big man while we...
