Do NBA owners seek to roll back existing contracts, imposing a pay cut on all 450 players as part of a new deal?

"I don't know," Stern said coyly. "Hey, Adam. There's a question for you ..."

Adam, of course, was Adam Silver, the NBA's deputy commissioner, point man on collective bargaining and jockey of Stern's horse, which he seems to regard as Secretariat-like in its chances to throttle the competition in these labor talks.

    "Yes," Silver said, point blank.

And there you have it: On-the-record confirmation that the NBA is looking to do to its players what the NHL did in 2005.

I figured that with all these ridiculous contracts being signed lately. These guys should take a pay cut... they should take part of their pay and invest money into a new league that is fair and doesn't favor big market teams and players and doesn't have incompetent refs who call way too many touch fouls.

    Or have a lockout.

good riddance to bad rubbish. I hope when sports lock themselves out, ESPN becomes a book club or something more useful to society. We won't have this instant gratification of a huge flow of streaming sports data to keep us busy, and we can go back to worrying about worldly events. Until then....go blazers!

Thank you, Knorton. Now more rebuilding or anything. No rookie nonsense. Get a solid Defensive big. Trade every single pick to get it.

Not sold on Muhammad. His offence isn''t really that great. Oladipo would be great, but I would trade it all for a defensive big.

I don''t trust big men with a history of injury. Ibaka also weighs more than Noel, but you''re right, early days yet, he could bulk up. I am sure, that he will lose some of his speed and athleticism when he does though. Wasn''t that one of his bes...

Paul Allen might sell the Blazers but the Blazers will never leave Rip City.
