yes, it's just five games into the season, but our rookie pg has done well in those games. whether we decide not to sign Andre to an extension or he plays out his career with us, Armon could be groomed to take over the position. he scored 10 (4-4 fg, 2-2 3pt), dished out five assists, grabbed two rebounds in 22 minutes against the bucks. that's 22 pts, 11 ast and four rebs per 48. just throwing it out there, but it seems to make some of sense to me.

I will agree with you that the Hammer is showing he is a good fit for Nate's system and with stats like tonight who could argue with him being the pgotf? But for now, lets calm the labeling down a bit and just sit back and watch an excellent rookie perform well and earn his label in time. Just glad he's on our team, GO BLAZERS!!!

I'm just glad that Armon is working hard and making every minute he plays count.  Armon has always been a hard working person and with that said he does not back down from any challenges..ie criticisms.  I'm for Armon and the reason being is that not a lot of people even in Reno, would have thought that he would be this successful.  A lot of peopel said that he would more than likely just sit the bench, but hey they are right he sits the bench, but when he is given a chance to play he makes a name for himself.

We will see how he does mid-season, but I believe that he will be more than just a "Surprise", to the Basketball world.

With that said, way to ball tonight Blazers!!!!

Agree.  AJ hasn't necessarily been scouted heavily yet, although that may be happening as I post this.  Bayless put up over 30 on the Spurs last season IN SAN ANTONIO, leading the Blazers to a huge win on the road as a starter.  Everyone saw it though, and that game would be the first and last performance of it's kind for JBay.  Personally, I believe Armon has a more complete package and will endure every counter thrown at him...but in time.  He still has much to learn, but is seated at the front of the class.

i thought rather than labeling Armon as anything, we could discuss it, since that's undoubtedly what the blazer brass is doing themselves. i don't think anyone wants to label him yet, myself included, but it clearly appears to be an option as far as his playing time indicates. we also could couple the optimism of the blazers in Armon by trading away Jerryd.

No doubt management trusts Armon and I know B-Roy does as well. But the thing is with such a small sample size it's still too hard and too early to gauge him. From the small sample we have of him to put it into one word, passion. He flat out loves this game as much or more than the next guy.

He definitely has passion. Going to the gym with Wesley in the eve of a back to back? Passion.

Along with passion it's his "Will" to be the best he can be is what Armon is all about.

It helps to know that your coach recognizes your efforts:

ROOKIE WATCH: Portland guard Armon Johnson went 4-for-4, including two 3-pointers, to finish with 10 points and five assists in 22 minutes. "He did a good job of running the team and finding guys," McMillan said. "Creating offense and getting the ball to the open man, and then when he had his opportunity to score he took the shot. Just a solid effort. Tonight he earned the right to play more minutes."

AJ showed no fear going at Rose, and had Jennings frustrated.  Look what finding a pg for Nates system can do !  Let's see what he does on Westbrook tonight.

I think the best part of this whole topic would be the first sentence......
yes, it's just five games into the season

"yes, it is just 5 games into the season, but already us blazer fans are creating unthinkable predictions."
"yes its only 5 games into the season, but we are already making up wild predictions that will eventually let us down. Leaving us there with our fingers up our.... thinking, how did this happen? I was so sure about him being the guard of the future after those 5 games"

    hahaha

Like if anyone should be  talking about Point Guards of the Future.....
It should be The Clippers, with Eric Bledsoe

Is Armon Johnson the pg of the future?  Yes but rather i think  a pg of the future he can be our version of Darren Collison, he has shown grit, defense, intensity, a willingness to rebound out of his area, and hustle, and has a balance of initiating offense while being aware of his own offensive openings and shots.  I believe he can take the reins when Dre leaves due to the fact he is as inquisitive as they come and for all the accolades and steps he takes this year i believe this summer he will improve dramatically he shows a drive to better himself and a lack of fear in asking questions. Personally i believe we should make the trade for Devon Harris when the nuggets open up trade options again.  Devin Harris will help Armon with setting up his man off the dribble, teach him how to use change of pace, and will help him get even better on defense bc Devin is still as fast as they come with the rock with the exception of John Wall

Yes, he is ONE of the pg's of the future.  Just don't expect a rookie to be perfect.

Ding. +1. A few games ago he played 11 minutes, had 0 assists and 2-3 turnovers. Rookies make mistakes.
