I am kind of curious what kind of deal G.O. wants Portland to extend him. He is a former #1 pick and when he has played he has played very well. I understand where Portland is coming from, not wanting to give him a large deal or even a long deal in case he becomes injured again. But after saying that, GO is only 22 or something rediculous as that. For people to say that he is a wash is silly. I am curious on what Portland believes GO is worth and what GO thinks he is worth.

Once again I think that unless GO wants some rediculous amount of money that Portland is sure no one will pay, then I think it would be in Portland's best interest to sign GO. People can bag on him, but as a legitamate 7footer 250-275 with a back to the basket style of play is too much of a temptation for me. I think that offering him a 3-4million dollar deal for 4-6 years isn't a un resonable. Especially if only 2 is guaranteed. I am thinking that GO probably wants a mid level exception and I am also gonna go say that he can probably go out and get it. Think of all the NBA teams out there hurting for a legitamate center. The teams that have one you can count on one hand.

What I am trying to say is this, he came into the NBA at such a young age. That even though he has played 3 seasons he is only 22. I think that a 4-6 deal Oden would only be 26-28 which isn't that old. I think people forget how young Oden really is.

I am just curious on how much Portland is willing to pay and how much GO wants.

I think we will offer him a decent deal...depending on his performance when he gets back this season. BUT I believe in the contract The Blazers will have the option for a bailout if he say....gets another severe injury.

I think that people are giving up on Oden too easily. He has a lot of heart, and when he has played, has been a force to be reckoned with. I say see how the season plays out and possibly extend his contract for 2-3 years. This year will definitely show what Greg is made of. I wish you the best Greg!!! Go Blazers!!!!!!!!

Why just 2 or 3 years? If he does play well I would lock him up, in 2 or 3 years if he stays injury free he will want a much larger contract.

Good question. Oden is a mystery. With a looming lockout and potential hard cap next season and the uncertainty of his health and ability to stay on the court as a productive center, it is so hard to be the GM on this one. I do think not giving him a contract at this point is wise from a management standpoint. There are to many known unknowns and it is hard to plan around known unknowns. Businesses want predictability and the known, Oden hasn't been the miller type Iron man health wise, so Cho and the Blazers seem to be doing the right thing here. All that said, IF he gets healthy and does what he does well, I think 25 to 55 over a 5yr period is what he is worth. Is this crazy?

Oden is in no position to want anything. If he wants a contract, he needs to get out there and earn it.

Let me play the GM.

Sign G.O small amounts of money on a 1 year contract. If he gets injured, take the loss. If, by the end of that year, is has grown to not hurt himself, sign him with a 2 ~ 4 year deal. Why this is such a dangerous situation is because G.O is an impressive player (obviously) and if we count him out and don't want to keep him, what if he gets healthy? Another team scores on our big man. With that being said, you need to keep G.O around till he gets injured again.

I'll leave you with this: If G.O gets injured, he's done, throw him away. If he can stay healthy, don't give up on him!

neither side expected a contract to be given or wanted for extension, Greg hasn't been out there long enough to ask for the kind of money he could ask if he has a huge year free of injury. So it's a win-win for both sides (agent/oden and cho) to wait and see, that's what they are saying and I believe it.

Check out the SI website. There is an article up announcing that the Blazers will NOT be offering Greg a contract extension. This will make him a restricted free agent next summer, will allow Blazers to match any offers, and makes Greg the first rookie since Kwame Brown to not get an extension in his contract.

I am a fan of Cambus taking a team to the finals after another lockout.

Not a good sign when your career goes from being named dropped with Kevin Durant to being mentioned with Kwame Brown. :(

The only thing I want out of Greg is to finish this season healthy and help us in the post season. If thats worth another deal than so be it.

Greg will not be offered a contract extention by the blazers, something which did not come as a surprise to Greg or his agent, according to reports. Greg will become a restricted free agent at the end of this season, which means the blazers will be able to match any offer that is made to him. i agree that with the potential lockout and hard cap, the team could be remaining prudent. it's also reasonable that the team may be watching to see how he does following his return this season before making a decision. the lack of an offer now really doesn't mean anything until we see what happens with the league-player negotiations and Greg's play when he comes back. i see no reason at this point to become alarmed at this.

He goes back to averaging 15 points 10 rebounds and 2 blocks a game like he was doing last year before the injury. What if a team with Cap next year offers him a big deal like we tried to do with paul millsap and wes mathews? kinda risky

Then hopefully he doesn't agree to the deal and wants to stay here because he is loyal. He said in an interview he doesn't hold a grudge for not offering an extension and he wants to go out and earn a new contract.

It is pretty simple actually. if he stays healthy during the regular season and proves that he can play without getting injured they can extend his contract. It is all on Greg's health now, we know he can play it is just whether he can play more than 20 games a season if he gets injured again he will never get more than back up centers wages and we dont want to spend first round money on a broken cog. I like Greg and wish him back to health so he can suit up year after year for us but we do have to be realistic.

This is exactly why I think Portland should have offered Oden a contract. I think that if Oden has a good year this year you can practically count him gone from Portland. Look around the league, anyone could use a legit, young, 7 footer who plays back to the basket. I mid level exception is what I think he will be offered.

If I was GM I would offer GO a 3 year with 4th year a team option, 4million dollar but only 2 million guaranteed. Then if he is injured you only pay him 2 million. If he is injured he will only get paid 2 million as a back up center which isn't a bad deal in my opinion. All the money we spent on him is sunk so I think 2million on prospect is a small amount to pay compared to having to offer him mid level of 5 million next year and have him get hurt again. Lets pay a little now, give him the opportunity to make more, (by his play on the court) rather than have to match someone else, who will front load it to make it hard to match.

If GO has a decent year I am gonna say that GO will not wear a Blazer uniform next year.

guys, a restricted free agent means that portland can match any offer made for Greg by the end of the season. sure, that could cost Paul Allen some cash, but the blazers will have the final say on whether they retain him.

Here's what I think. We are going to use Oden either as a trade chip packaged with Rudy. Not signing him to an extension also leaves him to be evaluated by the team. If he plays well he is going to get payed...by another team. Looking at our salary we can maybe afford to pay him no more than 9 million a year.

He is a 22 year old. Lots of guys come into the league at this age and are considered young and full of potential. I think that its a gamble but the upside is better than losing him.

Look at Jermaine O'Neal, we got Dale Davis and gave up a rising star in JO. I just hate to see people give up on guys who have so much potential.

Yeah but youre missing the point.Jermaine was not consistently injured, in the same spot. it didnt take him 3 years to finish 82 games.
So if this guy is hurt again, well then "The price is wrong Bia"
And then your comparing Oden to O Neal, if oden ever gets a chance to get out there, they will be saying Jermaine Who? Odens game is way more dominant than JO's.
I mean so far this guy Greg Oden has committed the biggest count of fraud ive seen in a while, he's makin out like a bandit. I mean we have givin him so much money already, he owes us 3 full seasons before he can opt to trade/or go Free Agent.

I completely agree he could be that voice on the court we need. Lamarcus just isn''t that guy and Damian can learn some on court leadership from him. A small lineup when we need a score bad of Dame, Wes, Paul, Nic, and Lamarcus would be potent.
