I love Roy's offense, but is his defense a worry? What do you all think?

The problem isn't that he can't either. I think he just needs to focus more on playing good defense.

I think he CAN play really good D. I just feel that he doesn't throughout the whole game...for whatever reasons.

yes.  ive never been to immpresed with his commitment on d.  makes up for it on offense but his defense and his inability to take over games sometimes when his team needs it are what make him top ten or 15 instead of top 5

He's doing fine, he's a guard. He's not Amare Stoudamire or Marcus Camby. When we lose 3 straight, on obvious blown assignments by Roy, then maybe, just maybe you might want to talk about where you see Roy improving. Until then, I got two words for ya'...

I think all star is right (Awesome last night), but I would like him to really tighten his man to man D. It just seems like the players he guards score kinda easy. Or put it this way I have more confidence in Batum guarding Roy's man than Roy. I know Batum is a "Defensive" player but I guess my point is that I would like to see ROY get some nods for MVP THIS SEASON and if that is going to happen I think his D needs to improve. As far as our team' defensive schemes, like  our 4th quarter lock down D, are getting the job done.  Maybe I'm contradicting myself - it is about the team like Tobyus seems to suggest and we have won 3 straight by our D, so Forgive me Roy.

Tired legs= weaker defense. No trick or treating for Roy or LA tonight. Roy and LA are still logging a lot of minutes, which worries me more come play off time.

I wouldn't say his defense is suspect, just inconsistent through 3 quarters. But it's not that he doesn't play good man-defense, in fact he is our best perimeter defender believe it or not (Nic's man defense isn't there yet, he's still wearing roller skates out there). Watching him play defense  through the first 3 games it looks like he's trying to play the passing lanes more and coming over to help from the weak side, which is fine but he's laying off his man waay too much.

I think his defense is perfect, his defense isn't overtly soft, and he does a good job of staying out of foul trouble while keeping his opponent honest.  I think Roy is sick of being ignored in the conversation of the best, so I think he's focusing more on offense than he has in any year before, I hate to say it but I'm glad he's getting a little more selfish out there and in the news room, I just hope he stays humble through it all as a person.

For some reason, although Brandon seems to have trimmed down over the summer, he looks a lot slower, especially in his DEFENSE. If he wants to be called one of the great players in the game, he better start hanging around Kobe, LeBron, DWade, Howard, etc. because they will be the first to tell you they pride their game on defense. Brandon is not there yet, and may never will. Too Slow.

What Bertram said. It's not All Defensive Team solid (I think it could be 2nd Team good if Roy wants it to be) but its not bad either.

To me it is suspect because he is capable of playing outstanding D, which he has shown, but most of the time it is lackluster and uninspired. This year he seems to be a little better at playing longer stretches of good d. I think playing alongside Dre in a more synergistic approach is leaving him with a little more energy on the defensive end. I think he is still figuring it out and pretty soon he is going to be that much better at both ends. But there are definite times when it is suspect, like in the Phoenix game when Jefferson and Childress kept going around him for easy layups and dunks.

Inconsistent is right.  Look at Kobe and D-Wade, 2 gaurds that are better of him because they CONSISTANTLY play great D.

Inconsistent IS suspect, so yes.  It doesn't matter if he CAN play good D because he soesn't sometimes.  He is the best player on our team but not defensively.  It isn't a big deal though.  We have Camby, Batum, and Matthews for our D.  Roy is our offense.  Period.  It would be nice to see him improve on it, but hey...we are 3-0 so I'm fine for now.

Through 3 games Roy is averaging nearly 2 steals a game. To compare Rajon Rondo is averaging 2 steals and Chris Paul is averaging 1. I think B-Roy is holding to his word and being a little more committed on D.

Getting your hands in the passing lanes playing team D and playing good man to man D are 2 completely different things, but I do agree he is playing better on D so far.

Oh they are definitely different, but I'm just saying from what I've seen from him it really does look like Roy is putting a LITTLE more effort than he has on the past on defense. Here's to hoping it keeps going.

hahaha, kenny c using the word suspect?
never would of imagined, thats more Kenny G.
    hahaha.
At the Clipper game, Brandon played just as good of D, as he did Offense, i guess @ times is better put, since there was just no answer for gordon, but brandon wasnt always on him so.....
I saw him poke the ball out a few times, get 1 or 2 steals, he had 9 rebounds in that game, like WHOA! Idk if they were defensive boards or not, i think most of them were.

But toms right on that difference of types of defense, and i think the team d, cloging passing lanes will work the best. When i think of clogging the passing lanes i think of the, 08 Lakers, or 09, with Ariza, when he started, haha i dont really know what year nor do i care, but Ariza played such good D, in that manner, for that team. I think JeffVanGundy said, "if there was a statistical column for most tipped passes, It would be Ariza's"  My point is i dont think they would of won/ gotten that far, without that effort on d.

He is a pretty solid defender but doesn't defend to the best of his ability every possession because he knows how much we nede him on the offensive side of the court. He tries to save his energy. It doesn't help that McMillan plays him what seems like 40+ minutes a game. That takes a toll on a player.

part of playing good defense is to attack the passing lanes to deprive the other team of their opportunity and to create an opportunity for your own team. it's part of team defense.

Uh that is why I already said team d. I think when people question Brandon's inconsistencies on d, they are mostly talking about his man to man. His team d is not bad but his man to man is really good sometimes, and then other times is really bad... like when I said against Phoenix, Jefferson and Childress went right around Roy no problem about 5 times in the first half for dunks and layups.

Artest said it best, "He's the best player I've played against. To me he is the best shooting guard... not on defense now. His defense is kind of suspect."

Seriously, I love KENNY G. "Songbird" is like one of the top ten smooth jazz hits. It's the best track to listen to when your driving a tractor, skateboarding, swimming, chopping carrots for soup, or throwing away sponges that smell. The best time to listen to "Songbird" is when you slow down basketball footage of dunks from the 80's and play "Songbird" as the background music while, "passing the dutchy from the left hand side" if you know what I mean  - life is just so interesting when you don't refill your prescriptions and try the natural route. Give Kenny G. a chance he loves the Blazers too.
