Kobe Bryant was asked who the toughest player for him to guard in the Western Conference on the John Thompson Show the other day. This was Kobe’s response:

“Roy 365 days, seven days a week. Roy has no weaknesses in his game.”

Is this a diss on the 2010 scoring champion? No. While casual fans see Durant as a face of the League and Roy as an oft-injured, not-quite-elite player, NBA players clearly have enormous respect for him and his game.

Kobe clearly values ‘complete’ players. Looking solely at weak points, Roy would have an upper hand. And it’s true Roy has had his success one-on-one with Kobe, which certainly is another highly valued offensive talent in Kobe’s mind.

Kobe’s displayed some serious Brandon Roy man-love for some time. And, in this writer’s eyes, this was not a slight toward Durant. Roy may not have weaknesses, but surely 21-year-old Kevin Durant is cut from a different cloth.

    But game does recognize game.

Whether you love him or hate him, that's high praise from Kobe.  Roy v Durant is debatable in my min. Durant is the better pure scorer and gets to the line at a higher clip while Roy is the better facilitator and clutch performer. The only knock I have on Roy, is I wish he'd take over more early on in games to keep our team afloat.

Nate Thurmond. Who? Nate Thurmond. If you asked Wilt Chamberlain,Bill Russell, and Kareem who was the toughest guy they had to play against,Nate was number 1 or 2 on their list. Pure scorer's will always score and find ways to do it. We all know that there are other factor's on the court too that stats dont show. Roy has all those factors. Just like Nate of so long ago Roy is not flashy, he gets on the court and goes to work. So it does not suprise me that Kobe said this, I am suprised however that  that no one else has.

I am surprised, Portland has given LA trouble before, my grandfather despises this team for that reason. But even after the Kevin Durant show last playoffs against the lakers, i am surprised that he would still be stuck on Roy. But i dont like the " Oft injured, not quite elite" part, the "not quite elite" is that shooting on his #11 overall, if 10 and under are the elite?

Now Ron Artest doesn't sound so crazy when he said Roy is the best player he's played against. And I hate that Craig Sager obviously didn't agree and kept insinuating that Lebron or Kobe  or somebody besides Roy should be the best in Artest's opinion.

That's some serious man-love from Kobe. But as someone said in an earlier post "why would you listen to the opinion of someone who raped a girl?"

Yeah...I'm listening to the opinion of the deadliest player in the game about another player, 365 days, 7 days a week.

I also am sick of these morons in the media that can't let the players decide for themselves who they think is better than another. So Kobe says this about Roy, but the writer has to mention though Roy may not have weaknesses, but Durant is still better because he's 21 and cut from a different cloth.
I also hate that the media automatically assumes the scoring champion is the best player in the league.

Don't get me wrong, I like Durant, he seems to be a great guy off the court as well as being dangerous on the court. He is a decent defender and rebounder, but give Roy his due.

The media loves teams and players that score a lot. In football the rb who scores the most TD gets the attention, not the one who helps his team in different ways like blocking. Also in football the offense gets all the attention, not the defense.

In basketball, the moment Kobe stopped being called the greatest player in the league was the moment LeBron James and Wade  averaged more PPG than him. So yes, screw media.

I agree with you 100% Roy is certainly one of the elite players and  if he played for a so called big market team he  would be right there with dwade and kobe and all the rest. I am so glad he is on our team instead of ball hawking durant. I think durant is a great scorer but he is not the total player that Roy is.

Only reason why Durant gets more spotlight than Roy is because one he scores more, two he played against Kobe in the playoffs and push them to 7 games. In the NBA all roads lead to the LA Lakers or the Boston Celtics whether you like it or not.

Roy is the 11th best (as an injured player mind you) in the league .. and 3rd best SG .. in the league following only Kobe and Wade ..

IF that does not make the guy Elite in the eyes of everyone who follow's the game ..

They will never admit him to being elite then ..

Point blank .. not 1 but TWO !! of the World Champion Los Angeles Lakers .. claim Roy to be either the best they ever played .. or the best in the league .. with out weaknesses ..

Who you going to believe ?

    The World Champions ?

Or some obviously biased sports writers ?

As for me .. I'll believe Kobe and Artest .. as they are the ones who play Roy .. not the sports writers .. who only see what they want to see ..

Thats why i love this city. I also love that Roy is from the North West. I would love it if we've been playing possum all preseason and just start running on squads. I respect Kobe's opinion of Roy, but , we didnt need Kobe's approval to telll us what we've known for quite some time. We have us one helluva ball player.

I have to admit, it's nice to hear just sitting by itself, but yeah if you bring in the personal issues, maybe it's less flattering . . . as for the reporter's comment about Roy "beiong oft-injured, not elite player" I think it says enough that coaches put him on the All-Star team, which is far more legit than the fan voting (=lame popularity contest). Of course, no disrespect to Durant, he is a stud on the court and yes, he is already and will continue to be a star, barring any major injuries, for the rest of his career. Let's just hope B Roy gets a ring before Durant.

If you think about it this souldn't be a suprise Roy has no weakness on offense except i think he need a little more killer instinct, But if you look at some of the elite players Lebron, Wade, Rondo have average jumpers Durant, Paul, Nash, Dirk Struggle against physical defenders the only other player that doesn't have a weakness on offense is Carmelo so it good to see our guy get some shine.

Kobe's bromance with Roy has been going on ever since he made his first All-Star game.
The fact that Kobe gives Roy credit any chance he gets says a lot about Kobe and Roy's game.

Roy may not have the overall physical talent that Durant possesses but he has the intangibles every NBA player wants. He's a throw back NBA Player in my opinion part new school, part old school.
