Especially Joe Freeman. Sensationalism is the new American media medium but last I checked this was Oregon and that's not how we do things. If you look at all these "expert" opinions from the media its a swinging scale. One day Oden's a bust the next he's a superstar. One day the Blazers preseason means everything the next day nothing. GIVE IT UP! Just give us some facts and step off. If their is nothing to report go fight your way in for an interview and put it context. This extends to the real world as well. Another rant, but hey, its one of those days.

A little Epilogue to my previous post. The media is the reason everyone started hating Rudy and I have to admit I jumped that bandwagon for a minute before I came to my senses. What is it exactly that Rudy said? He's homesick and wants to go back to Spain? Let me ask anyone who reads this to go ahead and say why this is such a bad thing? And dont start bringing up what his agents said. Rudy isnt stupid, he knows that those things only hurt  his chances of reaching his goal. Blame his agents and not him. He's a baller and he's gonna play ball. I have to admit Im a little biased seeing as how Ive been in a contract that kept me half-way around the world from everyone I loved and cared about and it sucks. Its horrible when you don't feel like part of a family. Cut him some slack and wait until you see how he performs to judge him. The team should be making him feel comfortable and welcome which is hopefully what they are doing.

Have the Ducks even played a ranked team yet this season? And all the radio stations and local papers are freaking out because they're unbeaten?
    uhhh, uhhhh,
Cake schedule, "we don't wanna play Boise State, or anybody else that's really good this season."

You know, thats not a terrible point although we handled Stanford pretty damn well if you ask me. Sure we allowed points out the ass in the first half but our conditioning is what makes us title contenders. Let's just wait and see how the USC and Arizona games play out before we start saying they arent anything. In the case of Boise State, they dont play ANYONE! Hit me up once they get into a real conference and play a single ranked team. Oh wait, they beat OSU but not handily. Boise has the easiest schedule of anyone in the top 25. Although, I would absolutely love to see Oregon play Boise State in the BCS championship. Do I hear the start of a rivalry?

Yea but at the same time, this guy wanted to be here. The Blazers management didnt drag him out of his home, kidnap him and force this guy to play ball with a ball and chain attached. As for his agents, and what they have said, the part that gets me is, why would his agents be making these public announcements if he did not want them too?
That would not be much of an agent, or at least, not a very good one. If he wants to go home, well yeah he is still a human being, so he has the right to do as he pleases, but its the comment like " would rather sit the rest of his contract, than play." Regardless if his agents made that comment or not, it comes down to Rudy, if he said it, then he is very foolish, what a gift he has been giving, an opportunity, to throw away like its nothing because he is unhappy. If his agents had made those statements, then why hasn't rudy fired them, is he playing the team, keeping his options open? Does he want off the team? Does he want a new team? And why cant he just come out and say it?
    He's a grown man.

I agree. His agent did say he would rather sit than play, but did that happen? Agents are snakes, that's their job. The agent that said that is Andy Miller, his US agent. Im sure he might have said that and I agree it is totally unprofessional for him to let that destroy his value. He should have fired him on the spot just to keep his credibility. Let's look at the Melo situation for a minute for a comparison. Everything said came straight from the mouth of the lion himself. His agent staid away from the media and it has rewarded him. Rudy let his agents do his talking for him when the only thing we should be looking at is his play and that's been pretty solid this preseason. Everyone likes to say the preseason doesnt mean anything and I agree, but he played. His agent said he wouldnt and yet there he is knocking down more threes than anyone else in the preseason. It's just hard for me to believe anything I hear in the media from agents or beat writers alike. I guess it's just one of those things you know? My contract was with the army and I was sent to Iraq. I knew what I was getting into and I acted professionally but you can bett your bottom dollar I hated it and complained when appropriate, and that appropriate time is when there aint S*&t going on. He destroyed his trade value and honestly, that's probably the best thing for the team and Ill tell you why I believe that. The only way he can get his self out of this league or onto another team is by playing his ass off. Great. Awesome. Do we need him after this season? No. We need another PF not more gaurds. Let him prove to the organization and the NBA that he is the player he says he is and we as fans can reap the benefits of his strong play. I haven't seen anything that says he doesnt wanna play ball Ive only heard it, and I only believe half of what I see and almost none of what I hear.

Again, it's the media. Show me where he is quoted as personally saying he would sit out rather than play for us and I'll concede that you are completely right and Ill agree he's a douche. Til then Ill back his play.

Oh, on the Oregon thing, they play too fast for anyone in the NCAA to keep up. BSU would be screwed.

Wow. Solid. and i can agree. We could use him after the season, but like you said, we need the help else where, and i completely agree, too many guards. Rudy did play this pre season, like he wanted to be here, so i can understand where your coming from, on what to believe. But its like i was saying, he is playing us and the team. You mentioned he would have to play his @$$ off, and pre season wasnt like Eye popping, but it was pretty astounding considering what most expected. So Rudy is going to play, he going to play HARD, but do you think he could warm back up and want to stay in Portland, or is he just working hard to get noticed again, so he can bounce as soon as he gets a chance?

Damn forgot. OSU is going to end up like BSU and TCU, in another division. The teams that BSU and TCU play are not tough teams at all, and in the past couple of years, people have started to realize, DAMN, these schools are just athlete academy's. OSU i dont know all the schools they play, whether they have any super tough teams to play, but theyre undefeated, as well as BSU and TCU, but these schools arent going to get to the bowl games they want because of their divisions. But this is more OTcollegefootball thread talk.

No, I think he's playing hard so the Blazers might release his contract after this season. I'm not even mad at that. He would only have one year left and look at what we've got waiting in Europe. Claver, Koponen and Freeman. If he gives us a good season the team would probably be happy to release him, or more reasonably, let a Spanish team buy him out relatively cheap so we can free a spot to bring in one of those other players. In all honesty, nothing bad about the Blazers has been truly said except he cant get minutes at gaurd.... great, let Madrid buy him out for, say a mil? We bought his rights for 3 and hes at, what,  1.75 a year? Thats chump change in the NBA. He plays hard, the CBA talks heat up, we sell his rights back to Europe and we pull one of the European players we actually need into the fold. I think we'd all be fine with that.

When I say OSU I mean Oregon State not Ohio State, and Oregon State has played an extremely tough season and played it tough. They will play a bowl game. Probably Fiesta.

BTW, the only reason college football got started was cause this thread is about media and the person who brought it up was bringing up his objections with the way the media was treating Oregon.

Yeah, i know. OSU, BSU, TCU- dont play tough teams.

But as for Rudy, if he plays hard and gets his mind in the right spot, why would portland want to let him go at the end of the year, for a less experienced European? If he can work his way back to becoming a key asset and role player for this team, then i dont see any logic to get rid of him, unless other wise he is unhappy, or problems begin to occur again.
Thats why this team cant win, as soon as all their players are getting the hang of it, really cooking with gas, they bring in all these rookies by the bus loads.
I dont get that, why shoot yourself in the foot, year after year?

With the Bobcats talent right now it seems like a good bet that the pick would be within the top 10 in one of the next 3 years.

Im not impressed with Gortat. Everyone wants him but he seems mediorcre to me. He is the most realistic option since all it would take is the 10th pick, but I think he is old and declining.
