“I’m not worried about people believing in me. I believe in myself,” he said. “If you’re going to doubt me, doubt me. But I know what I can do, and I know I’m going to improve, and I know that I can bring a lot to this team.”

If it were up to Oden, he would have already contributed plenty. After arriving as the No. 1 pick of the 2007 draft, he was expected to team with Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge to make the Blazers a contender in the Western Conference. But while Portland has improved – advancing to the first round of the playoffs in each of the past two seasons – injuries have kept the team from reaching its full potential.

And no Blazer has struggled to stay healthy more than Oden, who’s played in just 82 of a possible 246 games in the past three seasons. The frustration of Portland fans has been compounded by the fact that Kevin Durant, who was selected one pick after Oden, has developed into the NBA’s reigning scoring champion and an MVP candidate.

“He’s been through a lot,” Roy said of Oden. “He’s had major injuries for a young kid to deal with who’s had all these expectations. … I think more people would be more down than he’s shown.”

It's good to hear that Oden still believes in himself, which is key. It doesn't matter if everyone in the world knew he was going to pull through everything if he didn't believe it as well. I truly think this is Oden's make it or break it (no pun intended) year. He has the talent, but another injury could wipe it all away. I pray for Oden's sake that he can just play basketball..that's all he wants to do.

1 season for oden is 3 for everyone else, nice. Oden needs to come back by himself, show the NBA that he's ready to play, but it all comes down to him, and that damn knee. He better take care of it.
You know Oden really reminds me of Young Bill Russel, they sound very similar, they look quite similar, and they were and are so young and talented. When i look at Oden, i cant help but see Bill.

If Grant Hill can resurrect his NBA career anything is possible as long as you stay positive and believe in yourself.

To steal a line from Dennis Miller; I really like the cut of his gib.Although I am still one major injury away from chalking him up to another Sam Bowie. I would just like to hear a bit of news on when to expect him. I thought he was supposed to suit up before Joel but it looks the opposite will happen from the reports. Still the guy is tough and has alot of intestinal fortitude, lets just hope that is enough.

    Got to love that tendinitis.

    Our team needs knee insurance.

Oh hold your horses, the most valid point here is about Grant Hill. You don't want to rush him into things with so much on the line, like its been said many people are looking at this comeback at the last chance, and with him being in a contract year it only adds more pressure on top of people asking when he will be back on the court. Joel will be back soon, we all know that.. Greg needs to take his time, get 100% and see what happens.

If Arvydas is done using those knee braces tho, maybe Oden should give them a spin..

@Kim I agree it is time to show it, and he knows that with the contract on the line but my hold your horses comment was aimed at the people wanting a time line, wanting Greg to get on the court as soon as possible. I want to see him as bad as anyone else, but this being the 3rd comeback from injuries.. I say rushing him is the last thing that needs to be done.

Right now, the most realistic is Asik. If Houston pursue D12, sign and trade JJ and a couple second round picks, maybe Joel Freeland or somebody for Asik.

Nah, Washington would just sign him themselves, save them a pick. Also, no way JJ is worth a lottery pick. Oladipo would be great, for pretty much any team in the NBA. I don''t think it''s possible to get him though. Should focus on getting a defe...

Jermaine O''Neal, Drazen, Z-Bo, Sheed (I know he was already a star but still). Also Drazen was buried under Drexler and Porter.

What happens if we don''t win? Dwight will start his nonsense, we would be out a lot of money, and with no real talent to show for it. San Antonio and Memphis is proof that you don''t need superstars to win.
