From Off The Dribble: A NY Times Blog-
So is it possible for Fernandez, 25, to turn into a happy camper in his third season with the Blazers? He’s looking quite settled on the court, leading the N.B.A. in three-pointers in the preseason.

There are other hopeful signs in the waning days of the preseason, giving credence to the idea Fernandez may stay and succeed in Portland.

His teammates say they see joy in Fernandez, and hope he can overcome his culture shock. Fernandez, for his part, isn’t commenting any more on his feelings according to the Oregonian.

“The team is helping me,” Fernandez said. “I’m good with the dynamic with the team. I’m focused on my work and focused on helping my team. When I’m on the court, I try to help my team with my shot, with my defense. This is my role and my focus.”

Very interesting read. Is it just a PR ploy to get traded or does he genuinely want to be here in the Rose City until his contract is up?

so far this entire situation has provided nothing but bad press for Rudy and the Blazers. It's clear that he won't maintain his currently improved perspective, and even if this is an accurate piece of information, it certainly won't be for the rest of his contract. Unfortunately Rudy has proven that he does not know how to handle a situation like this and this recent report could only be two things: one) he is simply trying to raise his trade stock, or two) he is making nice with the organization so they will appease his strong wishes later on in the season. either way, Rudy has proven himself to be more of a drain than an asset for our team.

I think its just Rudy trying to be a good little soldier and hoping by being on his best behavior that it'll be good enough to earn him either a release or a trade. But I must say I enjoy this Rudy much better than the prior Rudy who has been going through the media expressing his concerns.

Don't care. Portland is good to her players; if Fernandez is an exception, he is so in the sense that he has received more and not less affection from Stumptown. Until Portland gets some sort of sincere and heartfelt apology, Fernandez no more than ink on a stat sheet, even if he is filling up the 3-point column.

Winning cures all.  As long as Rudy is contributing, Portland will forgive and forget.  The real question is..."how LONG will he be willing to be a positive presence, both on and off the court?"...followed closely by the question THAT question begs..."why the change?"  Rudy is doing alot of talking ON THE COURT now, and I think we should listen to what he is saying now just as much as we have to date.  Just my opinion

I know he has been playing better this pre seasos and his attitude has improved, but I think we should still trade him since guys like Wesley Mathews, Batum and Roy need playing time, and they won't get the playing time they deserve with rudy around.

I hope he get's traded, I still like the guy but seriously, it's bad enough having to worry about Oden getting hurt again once he starts playing, I don't want to have to worry about Rudy crawling back into his shell again. And like cransford said, we need more minutes for Wes and Nic anyway, and Nate doesn't coach as good when he has too many options.

Rudy is in aposition now, where perhaps he feels like he can do whatever he wants.
ha, he's in that position now? has been for a while.
He sees that the team, is by far, NOT ready to win, and he can come back an try and add some depth to this roster, but at the same time, do you want him there?
I mean, ya because this team is a sinking ship and needs all the help it can get, but this guys attitude latley, is he gonna piss off other players? And is that a risk your willing to take as a coach, putting him in rotation.

If he's reacting this poorly, just because Portland won't release his contract, how is he going to react the first time a big PF inadvertanly smashes him with an elbow tangling for boards?

I wonder if having Patty on the team has been beneficial in his happiness with playing for Portland? I read the article on here the other day about how those two are inseparable and hang out at each others houses all the time. Maybe all Rudy needed was some TLC?
