Have not offered him a contract.
Blazers general manager Rich Cho acknowledged that the Blazers have been in contact with Oberto — and a host of other centers — since Jeff Pendergraph was lost for the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. But Cho also said the Blazers have not extended a formal contract offer to the one-time San Antonio Spurs forward.

“I’ve asked about him, but we’re not close to doing anything,” Cho said of Oberto.

Cho reiterated what he told The Oregonian last week: He is exploring the market and might even bring players to Portland for private workouts, but he will continue to bring a “wait and see” approach to the process. Cho is comfortable doing this, in part, because of the progress Joel Przybilla is making in his rehabilitation from two offseason knee surgeries.

Przybilla went through a full practice Friday and said over the weekend that he hopes to be game-ready by mid-November.

If JP is back by mid-November, I'm not even sure going after Oberto is worth it? Thoughts?

If he were younger, I would say yes.
If not Oberto, it needs to be someone.  I for one would like to see a big man, who we could hold on to in the future. It is still unknown what Oden will ever produce, ( once he plays, there is still the foul trouble )  Joel/Marcus are both over 30 now.
Quit chasing pgs and find another  big man !!
We play the Lakers and Thunder  before mid-November, and every win will count for playoff seating in the west.

But i like Oberto, he wouldn't complain about lack of minutes or anything, and he is another big for insurance.

But will he be able to contribute as well?
Or are we just getting another big guy?

Yes we play the Lakers and Thunder early but I really doubt Oberto would be the difference between winning such matchups and losing them. OKC has zero size and LA will be without Bynum.

We don't need Oh Boy Oberto. Przy will be back soon enough. LA and Camby can get it done and we still have Dante ready to play much bigger than his 6'8" frame.

Oberto would be 6 hard fouls, and a role similar to Howard last season.  OKC has Aldrich , and I don't like it, even if he is a rookie .....
Fingers crossed to see big Joel 11-4-10.

I forsee alot of movement in the coming days with the current roster at 19, and the regular season set to tip off in only a week.  Curious that we're talking about adding yet ANOTHER body.  I do however, like the addition of a player like Oberto.  This team needs more size, but more importantly, needs more attitude.  Joel shouldn't be expected to carry the entire load for all the guys in that respect.  Can't say it enough...no more "and 1's", especially at home and ESPECIALLY in the post season.  This team needs to get tougher, alot tougher.  Wesley is going to help

Can't they get some exception if Jeff is out for the season?  Watching the old Blazer games, can't Buck just put a uniform on ?

Imo, Dante brings toughness too. I am just not a fan of Blazer small ball , unless its against the Suns or Warriors.

The Lakers are not the only team in the west I am concerned about. Dallas added Chandler and OKC has Aldrich .

I like Oberto since he can contribute a little while Oden and Pryzbilla are out, but when they return he will not complain about minutes or anything.  Thats the problem with getting someone like Dampier, they need big minutes throughout the entire season.

Plus even when Pryz comes back, how long until he is at 100%? I don't want to risk rushing that and like I said before, Oberto would not mess with our chemistry, he seems like a good guy that's never demanded minutes.

Remember how big of key reserve roles that Juwan and Jeff and Dante played last season?

Well Howard's a Heat, and Jeff went down early in the field of battle.
Dante Cunningham, get him on your fantasy team, I figure he's gonna get a lotta minutes.

Personally we are going to need someone with experience to fill the hole when Lebron comes. I think at first Joel is going to be a little gun shy and that is to expected so to have someone out there to plug the hole and know how to do it will be a plus

No doubt D!  I consider myself somewhat of a shoe connoisseur, and I wouldn't buy those with YOUR money!  This, coming from the guy who still owns a pair of green Rodman's from the early 90's...the ones that laced up the sides.  I don't think those are ugly, but am repulsed by the PreHeats.  I suspect the originator of this shoe came up with the idea shortly after leaving one of the King's parties, having inhaled one too many times.  "Gaudy" is being polite
