So the preseason is well under way and most teams have played 3-4 games. I was wondering who you think will give the Blazers the most trouble this year? I think there are teams that have been terrible that may have a chance to upset some teams. I'm looking at you Timberwolves and Kings.

    GO T-WOLVES!!!

Nahhh, just playin'. We got Minnesota, sweep city baby! But Sac-Town might wing a couple by us.
But I think both those teams are still too young to compete against the league's elite. We're young too, but we can push around the big dogs, simply 'cause we we got Lamarcus and Brandon. No other NBA team has that luxury.
Give the Kings and Wolves a couple more season's, then it'll be on for sure.
I think the Clippers are gonna be your crummy sleeper team this season.

I could not care less what other teams do in pre season.  Coaches are trying players that we wont see in the regular season.

Who am I most concerned about ?  Greg Oden, and whats really going on ?
Again, I am not the most patient person on the planet, but at 75, my grandma had both knees replaced and was rehabed in 3 years.
Yes I know, my grandma doesnt rebound and block shots, but neither does Greg right now.......

i certainly think our biggest competition is utah and denver, and i'm not just saying that because we have three combined losses to them in the past three pre-season games. check my quick thought on the major competition in the conference:

lakers - for some reason, we match up well and usually bring our 'A' game. by the time we play them for the first time, we'll have at least Joel back from his injury.

mavericks -- we had their number last year, until they won the fourth game. we can beat them provided LaMarcus can effectively counter Nowitzki.

suns -- trouble in the playoffs goes out the window here since they don't have Stoudemire. we'll have to run with them; Wesley should be able to stay with Richardson.

spurs -- we had little to no trouble with them last year and they just got a bit older. a healthy Parker could be a concern, but watching he and Andre go at it could be interesting and entertaining.

jazz -- they're young and can be scrappy. if we can clog the middle and rebound, we'll have a chance against them. Sloan is an incredible coach who always has the guys ready.

nuggets -- obviously, the big question is whether Anthony will be there. we need to use our size inside to battle them. we have to be active and tenacious on defense.

thunder -- talented, but highly overrated. i don't see how they improved any more than we did. Durant can hurt us, but we have the talent to beat them, as we did three of four times last year.

rocdkets -- Yao is back part-time, but Artest and now Ariza are gone leaving our biggest worry to be Aaron Brooks. i know Armon is young, but he might be as effective defending Brooks as anyone else on our roster.

I got off subject a bit ^^.  Normally watching courtside makes me feel better about the Blazer situation, but last night even MB could not spin the Oden situation into a positive for me.

Utah is always a worry.  Dallas worries me too.
So sick of hearing about OKC already, it makes me throw up in my mouth, and the season hasn't even started.

well thinking with the positive in mind. We will be playing the Lakers for the WCF probably go to six and than we have to worry about the Meat. Providing the Uber -Ego's dont blow up in the regular season. I just can't see the Celts doing it this year.

Usual suspects here. Utah, Denver, LA, Dallas.
Division games are going to feel like playoff games (minus Minny)

I think Memphis, Sacramento are coming up strong. They should give the Western elites a run for their money.

MAn if they start those 3, the blazers wont score at all. You gotta have a center to win in Minnesota.

I want to say Utah, but something about Wesley tells me that he may remember a few schemes. He was a starter for a little while so he had to become familiar with some of their bread and butter plays. I certainly want him or Armon on DWilliams. Denver i think will implode at some point this season. If Melo goes, great, Denver collapses like a pressured lung. If he stays, Wesley gave him all he could handle defensively in his rookie season.
Healthy. We are a problem to all 29 teams.

Utah is my personal darkhorse team to make the WCF's this year .. (If Portland does not)

Utah is actually looking better then I had imagined them to be .. If they can stay hungry threw out the year .. and not hit that slump they always hit right before the playoffs (always falling down multiple playoff seedings) in the process ..

They will make it deep into the playoffs.

thunder -- talented, but highly overrated. i don't see how they improved any more than we did. Durant can hurt us, but we have the talent to beat them, as we did three of four times last year.

    --

In the past two years .. Portland has utterly demolished the Thunder .. 6 wins - 2 losses ..

Everybody thinks that because the Thunder took the Lakers to 6 games .. and Durant won a scoring championship .. they are going to be "Elite" this year ..

Truth of the matter in that particular series .. Kobe actually tried to outscore Durant .. to the point that it actually cost the lakers a couple games they should have won ..

It was soo bad .. Gasol and Bynum both publicly stated .. the Lakers are an inside out team .. meaning their offense needs to get going on the inside .. to provide the outside offense .. any sort of legit shot at working .. Both Bynum and Gasol went public crying they NEED MORE touches .. to be successful in that series ..

Once Kobe actually listened and gave them each more touches .. the Lakers were able to push past the Thunder with ease ..

Ok lets check back into reality ..

    1) - They have no bigs .. capable of doing anything against any of the playoff team's who DO .. have legit bigs.

    2) - Their defense (on ball, as well as off the ball) is highly suspect .. at best mind you .. (No one can stop LMA .. No one can stop Roy .. )

    3) - Locking down Durant (Yes this is harder then hard) but locking down Durant .. and this one trick pony is then called a dead horse ..

    4) - Armon defending against Westbrook = Westbrook is now ineffective .. Armon has a 6'9 inch reach .. and is going to be able to close down Westbrooks passing lanes simply by raising his arms .. and Armon has the lateral quickness to stay with Westbrook ..

    5) - The Thunder won just as many games (most in franchise history) as the Trailblazers did last year with the WORST injury season in Franchise history ..

    6) - Even with all the injurries Portland has had last year .. Portland STILL .. defeated the Thunder 3-1 in our 4 divisional games ..

The Thunder pose no more of a problem to Portland .. as Portland allows them to be .. meaning .. if we take them for granted .. they can beat us .. but if we play them as we have been for the past couple of years .. Portland will dominate this matchup rather easily ..

    --

The Nuggets are going to get rid of Melo .. the only question is when .. With Melo and Chauncy (if Melo leaves its nearly a 100% guarantee Chauncy is leaving as well) Denver has the capability to push any western confrence team .. and win the division no less ..

With out them .. They are not even an after thought ..

    Mavricks
    Rockets
    Spurs
    Suns

Are not going to be a threat to Portland if we can stay healthy .. The Suns are now facing an entirely new defensive minded team then they faced last year in the playoffs ..

And not to mention with out Amar'e the Suns have no bigs capable of stopping LMA and Portland should be able to win a series against the Suns this year ..

Mathew's and Roy can easily defend against Richardson .. (as can Armon) or even Batum .. (The teams best on ball defender)

Portland poses a larger matchup problem now for the Suns due to the additions of Mathew's and Armon ..
I personally can not wait for this game to come up and I will be in the Rose when it goes down this year at home !!

Utah and Denver with Melo still concern me. We play very well against the Mavericks, Hornets, and Spurs, so the SouthWest division doesn't worry me. Also, Houston could be a problem. Scola kills us inside, Brooks can't be contained on the perimeter, Battier hits dagger 3's, and now Yao is returning. I'm telling you guys, Houston is the sleeper team.

    Houston is dependent upon Yao.

    Denver is dependent upon Anthony.

Neither player will be a factor long for their current employer.  Sloan is a magician.  Utah is a problem.  I will agree that as long as both Mello and Yao are playing, Denver and Houston are formidable.  Fortunately for the Blazers, Yao is reportedly only good for a limited amount of minutes per game and Carmelo is setting the table for a healthy helping of implosion in the mile high city.  Yao may even be reduced to a Manute Bol type of role with the Rockets.  With Portland having upgraded their perimeter defense, Brooks isn't nearly the concern for me this year as he was last.

No other team last season played Portland the way Utah did, manhandling them as if it were "men against boys" in EVERY encounter.  I was at two of those games and can tell you...I was embarrassed.  I haven't yet seen any indication that things will be different this season.  Thus, Utah is still my biggest concern.

    and should they have?
They almost kicked the lakers @$$ in the playoffs, the lakers could totally destroy the blazers in a playoff game, so that would make them a favorable team.
Or in this case, a threating one. Durant scoring champion, takes no time off, goes into Fiba, takes his team undefeated, gets to play with Westbrook, gets MVP, UHH yeah the season hasnt started, the next words out of your mouth should be, "thank god"

Keep in mind this team is far from healthy, and their seems to be a problem with one of the Centers, i think.......

He should have at least one of those, he deserves to be in that company of great coaches...but looking at the past 5 winners it would look odd having Sloan mixed in with likes of Avery Johnson and Mike Brown.

I'm just saying the team they had last year can only be so good without making changes. Once they make some changes and become more successful THEN they can be considered elite.
