    Via Oregon Live-
On Monday, McMillan was informed of Batum’s desire to “be somebody in this league,” and earn a place on the All-Defensive Team. The Blazers’ coach flashed a sheepish grin and raised an eyebrow.

    “He’s listening,” McMillan said.

When the Blazers went through their exit interviews following the 2009-10 season, McMillan posed a question to Batum:

“Do you think these players, the main guys, do you think they think about you when you come into their arena? People talk about (Ron) Artest and Raja Bell and some of these top defenders. Do you think these other teams are talking about you? He didn’t think so. And I agree. But I think he can be that type of guy — a pest that can really disrupt a team.”

And to take that next step, McMillan says, Batum must become more physical, more nasty and even more determined. Batum said he needs to become more vocal, a challenge considering he is shy and reserved by nature.

In just two seasons, Batum has matured from a late first-round draft pick into a vital piece of the future. But whether this is the season he matures into the defensive stopper he aspires to be remains to be seen.

“I had a good season last year, but I only played 37 games,” Batum said. “I can do a lot more.”

I'd like to see Nic get more things ran for him just to see what we have. If he's not ready, then he's not ready, but Roy desperately needs another scorer and Batum could help chip in 15 a night easily in my opinion. I'm glad that he isn't settling either; he strives to be great.

He sets the bar high for himself, as all the Blazers should. Go Nico !!

I think Nic could be that on defense. I just wish Nate would clearly define his offensive role on the team. And run more plays for him, instead of just spot up threes. I really like Batum. He's never complained about his minutes even though Nate doesn't give him starters minutes, which i don't understand, especially last year. And he never quits on plays.

It's good to hear one of the Blazers' better players determined to take his game to the next level.  This is something I wish I'd hear Brandon and LaMarcus say more often.  However, ultimately, it's not what's said that counts: It's what happens on the floor.  I hope Nic's aspirations spread among his teammates.

Nah uhhh a defensive center, a backup big either position I don''t care, an experienced wing, without having to give up any draft picks. I''d probably do this but I just don''t know for sure.

I completely agree he could be that voice on the court we need. Lamarcus just isn''t that guy and Damian can learn some on court leadership from him. A small lineup when we need a score bad of Dame, Wes, Paul, Nic, and Lamarcus would be potent.

I mean Damian might have not even been in the same area as them when it happened. Innocent until proven guilty

I would agree Harris seems more dynamic but Harkless looks pretty good as well.
