    Taken from the Columbian-
True, LaMarcus Aldridge posted 22 points and hit 12 of 14 from the free-throw line, Matthews and Brandon Roy each tallied 16 points while shooting better than 50 percent from the field, and the recently-fined Rudy Fernandez continued his fiction-like shooting display en route to 14 points. But McMillan was unimpressed, focusing afterward on the offense’s stagnation.

After the game, Matthews and Roy confirmed the open-for-interpretation theme; Roy declaring that the team is progressing nicely, while Matthews expressed discontent.

“We’re playing better on both sides of the ball … I thought we had some good things tonight,” Roy said. “We want to win, but I’m not discouraged with what our record is right now. I think we’re going to be pretty good.”

Countered Matthews, when asked if the team is where he’d like it be at this point: “No … we had a good showing against the Clippers, where everything seemed to work. We had stretches against Utah, stretches against Denver, we just want to put it all together. We don’t want stretches.”

Am I reading too much into this? I realize its only pre-season, but anytime you get outhustled and continue to have troubles against division rivals is cause for concern. While Roy is the veteran who has been there before, Wesley seems wise beyond his years as well. I agree with Roy that we shouldn't be discouraged by the pre-season record but I also agree with Wesley that the team can't just look back on stretches and be happy. It takes a whole 48 minutes to get the job done.

    Its both positive and negative.

I think the team showed all pieces to win ball games, but couldn't put the puzzle together in 48 mins.
getting out rebounded really hurt, had some really nice runs but couldn't pull even. With 3 pre-season games left they need to figure out how to put it together, get on the same page, dail it in or whatever. Going to leave it a pres-season ball and not sweat it too much.

Now if we start the regular season 1-3 i might be concerned with that.

I'm not concerned with the pre season record. The rookies have been thrown in at the end against Denver and Utah. It should be a lesson.
I have though, thought about how Roy will take Wesley coming in here and producing like he has.  I hope it isn't Roy and Dre all over again ......

I echo that fear Kim.  However, I have to side with Wesley with regard to the excerps from the Columbian.  Wins and losses are rather meaningless during pre-season.  Most important perhaps, is utilizing the opportunity to solidify your offensive and defensive schemes before the games count.  Not at all liking what I'm seeing at the offensive end thus far, and sincerely hope a change is coming.  I have seen a much improved perimeter defense however, which was expected with the return of Nic and the signing of Matthews.

Last in the league 3 season's in a row for fast break points per game.
Hopefully the Blazers can get that stat closer to par this season.

I just think it shows Wesley's desire to win every day all the time. And Brandon is showing something else. I'd rather everyone had Wesley's attitude. Because I really feel like he hates to lose. With Brandon, sometimes it feels like, eh.

Oh and I know it's pre season and you are trying to figure things out but the problem with us is, we are not losing because we are experimenting with lineups and playing rookies a lot of minutes. Our starters are losing to the opposing teams starters right off the bat and the reserves and then rookies get it close or play even. It is the way we are losing that I am concerned about.

I still want the ball in Roys hands when it matters. Wesley is a beast, but he's Yang to Roys Ying. When they're  both on the floor together, we're going to be dangerous. Now throw Batum, Camby, and either Pryz or Oden in the mix, and we have offense and defense out there.

Well it matters from the beginning of the game till the end, and I wish Brandon would start acting like that. Everyone keeps saying that they want it in his hands when it matters, but if he would start the game out like he's supposed to, half of our close games wouldn't even be close games.

That's what the pre-season is for. To iron out all the big creases.

I haven't been too worried about their records right now. I mean the rotations that they are throwing in there arn't what the regular seasons are gonna be like. For example the Denever games Roy didn't play and Camby barely played. Obviously those two are gonna be in there most of the time. We were letting Luke play to show us what he can do. So we let our young guys and backups play the whole game and we still didn't lose by much. Once are stars get in the regular season and playing like it means something then I think we will be seeing what we want to see... WINS!

Well BDawg looks like Canzano just brought up our thought, after seeing  practice today, on the hot box.
I think it always takes time for any players to adjust. It's only pre season. At least they are talking about it.
I guess this is one way to get the media of Oden and Rudy.

From what I've been hearing we've been more focused on defense rather than running offensive sets. Supposedly we're running a more complete game Saturday. But who knows pre-season is a process, you can't iron out creases from just a few games. Hopefully all that is resolved by the time we face Phoenix.

If him and roy want different things for the team theres nothing you can do about that, when push comes to shove and you cant have both could you make a decision?
Alot of people are liking this wesley kid, but Roy is the man

Roy has already he sees him and Matthews becoming tight offcourt in a way Roy and Outlaw or Webster were, and that can become more of a tangible on court relationship than most might realize. It'll be alright.. take a deep breath and wait for the season.

In response to Bertram, hindsight is 20/20 as they say and after the Denver game Id think we're about there. Not there of course but almost. Did we throw our all into the offensive sets? No. It was kind of disastrous on the offensive end if you ask me. Not to the caliber of the players. Luckily we had Camby. Without him it would have been a blowout in favor of Denver.

Sanders is a good fit, like to run, Pretty much the same offensive game as JJ, except JJ is a little better around the rim and has that close-mid range game. I think Henson is decent too. I didn''t get to see a lot of his game, as he didn''t play ...
