Do high top shoes cause kneee injuries???

    I read an article a few weeks ago, I don't remeber who wrote it or what site it was from but it was a sports writer talking about things he didn't like about the NBA. One of the things he didn't like was high top shoes. I thought that was weird at first because I was always taught to wear high tops so I don't roll my ankles... He made an interesting point though. It's true that you don't roll your ankle but the shoe almost completly immobolizes your ankle so when too  much force is put on it, your knees twist because your ankles can't. He said back in his basketball playing days, there were hardly any major knee injuries, but now it is all to common. (Especially for us Blazer fans :(... He propsed to stop wearing high tops because a ankle sprain is much less serious then a torn ACL.  One is a season ender and the other, maybe a game or two, and thats if it was really bad.
    I think he makes a good point because you are stopping your ankles from being able to roll, but it isn't stopping your knees. I would much rather have a twisted ankle then a jacked up knee... What do you think?

    Yeah I wouldn't take any scientific medical or anatomical advice from a sports writer. For one I think ACL's usually tear because of a twisting motion in the knee, not because your ankle didn't roll. And two I don't think most players wear actual high tops anymore anyway, they wear the quarter highs or mid cuts. Besides  high  tops didn't really stop ankle sprains anyway! I used to wear them all the time when I used to skate and I broke both my ankles and sprained them all the time!

    Apparently, Portland causes knee in juries.

    I classify a high top, as a shoe that reaches above your ankle. And alot of the Basketball shoes that are in production out there are medium to high.
    Not alot of player wear low cut shoes. I know Kobe has Hyperdunks in low and high, but i think ive seen him play in the low cuts more that the high ones. I know for sure that he prefers the low cuts, he says he's able to make better cuts, twists and turns in traffic, better than when he wears the hightops.

    I recently just bought a pair of NikeID's Hyperdunks, in trailblazer colors, with my initials on the tounge.  I still wear my LeBron Zoom Soldier 3'sbut they only cover about half of my ankle and to me, the higher the shoe, the safer i feel.
    I sprained my ankle in the LeBrons in July, its still swollen today, goes down with ice, but playing on it does no good.
    Ive had friends who have had their ACL's, LCL',s torn before, and talking to them about that, you'd think they would of mentioned something, maybe their doctor had said.
    But heres the thing, Basketball players, are typically bigger, alot bigger than your averaged size human. Ill try to use an example and hope no one blows it out of proportion. 
    Yao ming for the past couple of years, has just been riddled with injuries. Now its not because he's not prepping himself properly before games, its because he is just SO BIG. i mean, he's not supposed to be that big, but he is. His bones, Odens bones, are alot bigger than ours, doesnt nessicarly mean theyre stronger than ours, but they are bigger. So when they get hurt, it takes longer to heal. When they get hurt, chances are its going to be alot worse than they hope for. Like Odens gift of size, is his curse.
    And when it comes to your knees, and sports, they honestly go hand in hand, i wouldnt be surprised if this goes on the rest of Odens life.

    I would say, High Tops, for sure. Strech your legs before you play.ha.

    Im not impressed with Gortat. Everyone wants him but he seems mediorcre to me. He is the most realistic option since all it would take is the 10th pick, but I think he is old and declining.
