Pendergraph Has Skills In The Kitchen

    The Hoopster: Jeff on the Run


    Jeff Pendergraph is hungry. Which describes his state of mind pretty much all the time. Life can be that way when your workday is spent running up and down a basketball court. In between there's weightlifting, meetings and life -- which for Pendergraph sometimes includes cooking.

    Perhaps the most surprising thing about the 6-foot-10 second-year forward, who lives with a roommate in Tualatin, is that he manages to spend any time in his kitchen at all. Training camp is under way. Time off is scarce.

    "Coach Nate's waiting for me at practice, and I've gotta be there early," Pendergraph says. "So I can't wait around and watch grass grow."

    What he does like is a good breakfast, something that will stave off hunger pangs and get him through morning practice without weighing him down.

    Something like J.P.'s Breakfast Special, crispy bits of smoked sausage tossed with scrambled eggs. Lots of scrambled eggs -- at least six if he's eating alone.

    "Always make more instead of less," says Pendergraph, standing at his kitchen island slicing sausage into coins. "I eat a lot and I'd be really mad if I did all this work and ended up hungry afterward."
