Who is the Greatest Coach in Trail Blazers History?
    Rick Adelman (8)
     20%
    Mike Dunleavy (1)
     2%
    Nate McMillan (7)
     18%
    Jack Ramsey (24)
     60%
After voting in ESPN's Greatest Trail Blazers Starting 5 , I wanted to take it one step further and find out why people voted the way they did. So here's how this will play out. Every 3-5 days or so, I'll post a new poll with 5 options for that specific position. Once the Starting 5 is taken care of, there will be a vote for 'Super Subs' where I'll pool together a list of the players who didn't win their position battles. Users will be able to vote up to 3 players(1 center, 1 froward, 1 guard) to fill out our 8-man rotation. Chemistry matters as well, so we will need to vote on 4 role players to fill out the roster. These players will consist of Trail Blazers who came off the bench the majority of their playing career. Once we have our team in place, they need someone to coach them, right?  All right, here we go...

Note: All Notable information courtesy of OregonLive.com and Trail Blazers media guide

    Coach

    Rick Adelman
    : 6'1", 175 lbs, Loyola Marymount University

    Seasons in Portland: 6 (1988-1994)

Stats: 445 games, 291 wins, .654 winning percentage, 6 Postseason Appearances

Notable: Led the Trail Blazers to three straight Western Conference Finals appearances (1990-1992) and two NBA Finals (1990,1992). Took over for Mike Schuler mid-way through the 1989 season. Had the Trail Blazers in the postseason every year he was at the helm. Ranks first in Trail Blazers franchise history in winning percentage. The 63 wins in 1991 still stand as the most recorded by any Trail Blazers team in history.

    Mike Dunleavy:
6'3", 180 lbs, University of South Carolina

    Seasons in Portland: 4 (1997-2001)

Stats: 296 games, 190 wins, .642 winning percentage, 4 Postseason Appearances

Notable: Led the Trail Blazers to back to back Western Conference Finals for only 2nd time in team history (1999,2000). Ranks 2nd all-time in Trail Blazers history in winning percentage. Made the postseason in every year he was in Portland. Coached the Trail Blazers to 59 wins in 2000, second most in team history.

Nate McMillan: 6'5", 195 lbs, North Carolina State University

    Seasons in Portland: 5 (2005-Current)

Stats: 410 games, 198 wins, .483 winning percentage, 2 Postseason Appearances

Notable: Brought the franchise back to respectability when he took the reigns in 2005. Coached the Trail Blazers to their first postseason appearance in six years (2009) and won 50 or more games in back to back years for the first time since 2000, 2001 (2009,2010). Ranks 3rd in games coached. Has put the Trail Blazers back on the map as a perennial playoff contender.

Jack Ramsey: 6'1", 180 lbs, Saint Joseph's University

    Seasons in Portland: 10 (1976-1986)

Stats: 820 games, 453 wins, .552 winning percentage, 9 Postseason Appearances

Notable: Won franchise's only NBA title in first season with team (1977). Franchise leader in games coach, postseason appearances, years coached, and wins. Most likely would have won more hardware had injuries not derailed the 1978 squad.

    Roster
    Point Guard- Terry Porter
    Shooting Guard- Clyde Drexler
    Small Forward- Jerome Kersey
    Power Forward- Maurice Lucas
    Center- Bill Walton

Has to go with Dr. Ramsey, but it was very close between him and Adelman.

I like em all, maybe even Dunleavy, but I had to vote for Adelman, he had those guys playing better than they really were, I think. Something he was able to do with Houston last year, he's able to get a lot out of mediocre to good players. If nate can get these guys to the WCF this year, and into the finals in the next three years, I'd say he's up there for best. I don't know enough about Jack and the 70's blazers other than that short piece on CSN they repeat, so I couldn't vote him best with confidence, too young I guess.

In all honesty I think Adelman had the toughest teams to contend against in his years here. When we won with Jack there was quite the chaos going on with the mergance of the ABA and probably the first real contract disputes happening. Since Jack got us the ring I voted for him. Hey How come no Roland Todd!!!!!

I had to go with Rick. The winning percentages speak for themselves. I mean, he is the owner of the two best regular seasons in history. A lot of people will criticize him for the Game 1 loss to LA in 91, but if Kersey dunks or Cliffy handles the pass on the 3 on 1 fast break in Game 6, there's a game 7 at the MC...not all the blame can go onto the coach. Then there's the Jordan factor. The 92 team wins hands down in almost any other time period. Look at the 94 Rockets or this decade's Spurs..they were no where near as good as we were in 92, but they didn't face the competition we had to.

I do wish Rick had learned his motion offense here in Portland rather than in Sacramento, which why my only gripe about his coaching style. Teams back then knew if you got us into the halfcourt, we were prone to struggling. But, he's a great coach, changed his philosophy and his Kings teams were some of the most dynamic on the break and in a half court set with all of their cutting and passing. Imagine if we had a prime Sabas to go with the 90's teams?

I liked it the couple times Nate got tossed out of the game, and Coach Maurice Lucas became the floor general. THAT WAS AWESOME!!

Not quite 50 votes, but I don't think it would have mattered. The winner is Jack Ramsey.

First need is a centre. And no one will take ten and 13 for 4th or 5th. After like the 10th pick the talent off is huge.

@Meese, it is quite ironic. They also just so happen to have the planets best player in Lebron James who leads them in rebounding with just over 8 a game.
