If Aaron Brooks doesn't get a contract extension from the rockets should Portland go after him?

Do not sleep on Armon. I like Brooks' speed, but not a fan of his size. I think we're good.

Brooks is the next big thing in the NBA. A tremendous fit next to Roy. He's Tony Parker minus the injuries and age. I'd hope we'd at least call, but I don't think it'd make a difference. They want to keep a hold of him and you would know Batum would be asked in return. Not sure the two teams are the best trading partners.

I dont know D22. I love the fact that he played here and is a good character guy. He's got a competitive spirit that coupled with his size, we've only seen in Allen Iverson. I think where he becomes a liability is when he has to initiate plays. Its going to always be difficult to see over most guards he plays against because they are typically, and on average, 6'2 or bigger. Which results in him having to blow by his defender and create a shot for himself, or a dime to a cutter. He's got tremendous upside yes, bright future also. I just am a little biased when it comes to pg size on the west coast. magic Johnson made us realize how difficult and dangerous it is to have a behemoth as your point man.

well you should be careful " the superstar Brand name police" will come around here and get you.

Brooks is a good player, he's not one of my favorites, but he is good.
He has good numbers for such a small guy, even in the playoffs.

But hey, imo anyone is better than miller for this team

@Dhawes, is he really that fast? Tony parker fast? when you compare him to parker i think of speed?

He is as quick, if not quicker than TP right now. He just isnt big enough to withstand a God forbid twenty eight game playoffs. Even if he was it would be demanding, but to go through 6'11" screens, on every defensive stint means concussion sooner or later. Double screens? Medic alert. Imagine him chasing Armon in practice. First, brush him off Brandon, than, run into L.A., and if thats not enough, pick your poison. G.O., Pryz, Camby,Pendy. And thats just practice.Imagine playng against those who dont like him.

No mini pg's. Agree 100  ^^^ don't sleep on AJ. He is my rookie crush, and my bet for the "pg of the future "
I had to see him live first. I have never seen a pg with shoulders like that big.

All you fans of the minis, remember:

My man AJ already has wing span that gives him the first step on D, and he will PUNISH the minis in the paint.
He may not have a long jumper yet , but he's young.

Aaron Brooks should unquestionably be pursued.  That kid knows how to play.  He does it all: scoring, dishing, stealing, three point shooting, hitting clutch shots, getting to the rim, etc.  Perfect replacement for Andre next season.  Hopefully Portland can get his attention.   I'm sure he'd love to come back to Oregon and play for the Blazers.  Great thought!

Not only will AJ punish minis, he will draw help D, and can hit the open man with the pass.

Love Armon, but I think he's being a little "over-rated" by us Portland fans.
I think he'll be a bench player, with the possibility of starting if he really works for it.
As for Aaron Brooks, I don't really care for him.
Too me he seems to be a Jerryd Bayless v2.0, a shoot first PG.
The only difference is Bayless is beginning to learn his role on the team.
He's passing more, changing his speed and so on.

I am a fan of you checking your email because Elliot Williams is sending you a message!

@Kim:  I'm sorry, but I don't understand why you think rookies Armon Johnson and Elliot Williams will be getting minutes.  I'm not saying they shouldn't, but knowing Nate's history of playing rookies, we won't be seeing much of them this year (unless injuries haunt us again).  You seem pretty stoked about 'em, but I honestly don't think the draft's first round 22nd pick and second round fourth pick will be getting many minutes in Nate's system.  We'll see, however.  They sound promising, and I hope they play!  They can play over Bayless any time, if you ask me.

I'm not saying AJ or EW will play alot as rookies, or that they will see any time right away.  May see the d league. But if any rookie pg is going to play for Nate, AJ has my vote.
Isn't Rudy an expiring contract this year ? As much as I like Bayless, he may be happier somewhere he can play more. That combination may be easier to trade if Oden or Pryz aren't back by February.
At this point, looking into the future, AJ has my vote for "pgotf" when Dre is done.

Seriously? When I think of speed, i think of Brooks. Honestly. He's always looked freakishly quick to me - maybe more than anyone else in the league. He is good, maybe not great, but really really good. That is completely because of his speed and quickness. He makes everybody look slow. That's what he does. If it wasn't for his speed and quickness, he wouldn't be much of a player at all. I liked him in college, but really didn't think he would play in the NBA this well. I'm not sure he would be a great fit here in a tempo control style like we play these days, but he is a really nice player... and yeah, he is that quick if you ask me. If he's not, I don't know who is.

Like I said ^^^, with Armon,Wesley and Nic,  (and all minis first step is sideways to get around wing span, not forward ;) )
My logic of a trade using Rudys expiring contract and Bayless :
Adding Matthews  lowers Rudy and possibly Bayless minutes. The quicker AJ plays, the sooner he gels. We'll see what Nate does.

I wouldn't sleep on what we have, I think we have all the pieces we need at this point, we just need to play together and figure out how to get to that next step. Bayless is a learned point guard, and will be a good backup PG, armon will get a 6-8 minutes a night possibly, he's a rookie sure, but he's "one of Nate's guys" so I won't be shocked to see him make his way as a 8th or 9th player.

I've never been the biggest Bayless.  He's definitely had his moments, but I don't see a higher level of control and awareness on the court.  Nonetheless, I am hoping that he proves all of this wrong this year and we don't have to consider pursuing Brooks.

@DHawes.  Completely agree with you in that Houston is not the ideal trade partner.  I saw Brooks at the Duck/USC game last year though, and he told my son that he would LOVE to come here (ofcourse), while he graciously gifted an autograph.

@Commontongue, Kim.  I am in your camp.  I don't remember being as high on a rookie as I am with Armon.  With all the talk of the rareity that IS Nic's complete game...AJ may just be of the same mold.

Good fit, depends on how much money Houston offers him in his extension.  The highest we could sign him would be about $6M (MLE) because of cap rules, and I think he deserves more than that.

Im not impressed with Gortat. Everyone wants him but he seems mediorcre to me. He is the most realistic option since all it would take is the 10th pick, but I think he is old and declining.
