I don't know if many of you follow baseball, but the Tampa Bay Rays have all but secured a playoff spot and are even in contention with the much higher pay-rolled New York Yankees.

Well, with pennant chases heating up, usually fan attendance rises as well. But, not so for the Rays who have been drawing around 12,000-15,000 fans in a stadium which holds 36,973. Not only has the rest of the media taken noticed but so have their players.

    From ESPN-
"We've been playing great baseball all year. Since I've been here in [2006], the fans have wanted a good baseball team. They've wanted to watch a contender," Longoria told reporters. "And for us to play good baseball for three years now, and for us to be in a spot to clinch again and go to the playoffs, we're all confused as to why it's only 15,000 to 20,000 in the building."
"It's a tough situation for us," he added. "A lot of the visiting teams come in and wonder where are all the fans. It's actually a little bit embarrassing for us. We're one game away from clinching a postseason spot. We have enough guys in this room to celebrate with, but we'd love to celebrate it with the fans, too."

What's the best thing about playing at home? The home field/ice/court advantage. Unfortunately for them, it may not matter if they end up with the best record because no one will show up.

Basically what I'm trying to say is we have amazing fans. Tickets here are not readily available, because the demand is so high. I'd go as far as saying if the RG held 5,000 more people, they arena would be sold out on a nightly basis, regardless of the opponent. Although our record at home wasn't what it should have been last year, which had more to do with injuries than fan support, keep at it Maniacs! Our players love that the RG has turned into such a hostile environment, and this is our way of helping the team out.

Agreed Hawes.  However, as I've stated in previous threads...I believe it now time for the PLAYERS to step it up.  Take a page out of Joel's book.  Play with some pride!  I had better not see a team like, say, the Utah Jazz, consistently come in here and wipe the floor, OUR OWN FLOOR, with us this season.  Rediculous.  Hard fouls (nothing dirty), long looks, and please, PLEASE...limit the "and 1's"...at least here at home, and later, in the playoffs.  Nothing easy fellas.  Matthews, I'm counting on you to lead this squad by example in Joel's absence.  LET'S GO!

Remember in Batman, how they had two ferries, one with prisoners, and one with civilians, both with bombs and they each had the remote for the other? This is what is happening now. You want to trade him before he leaves. Why not just get good piec...
