    The Thunder ..

This has to be asked as they are a divisional rival.

Whats the big real reason everyone seems to think they are better then the Blazers ?

Portland has been in the playoffs longer .. (More exp)

Portland has more size and depth .. (by multiple amounts)

Portland actually plays defense .. Thunder attempt to .. but never quite get there ..

So can some one please tell me what is the big deal that everyone thinks the Thunder are actually better then Portland ?

Is it only cause they took the Lakers to 6 games in the playoffs ?

If that is thee only reason people honestly think the Thunder are better then they are ?

The Thunder are by far THE MOST over-rated team in the NBA right now.
Its only because they have the scoring champion, and pushed the Lakers to 6 games.
Big whoop. If LeBron had been the scoring champion, and Durant had placed second, the Thunder
wouldn't even be being mentioned this off-season as "contenders".

I dont know what you are talking about I havent seen many post on here say they are better. All being said I don't think they are, they won 50 games at full strength ifthey would have had the same injuries we did they would have been a 500 team at best. I just don't think they should be overlooked.

They are constantly being mentioned on NBA.com and people seriously think the Thunder will be best in the West or 2nd best in the West.  The reason for this is because Durant is a scoring machine, and people tend to only care about scoring rather than real basketball (probably less than 30% of the people that watch basketball actually know all the rules and effort needed to win), so the NBA overrates him, saying he'll be the next MvP and is the future after Kobe (except we all know right now that LeBron is the present, Kobe is not).

Anyways, here is a thread on NBAs fanvoice that I agree completely with.
    http://my.nba.com/go/thread/view/81689/25583393/Did_OKC_over-achieve_last_season?pg=[[page]]&pg=4

I predict the Thunder missing the playoffs, or getting no more than 45 wins.  Teams overlooked them, they didn't overlook the Blazers.

They're going to make it that's a givin.  But they are NOT better than Portland.  What did they do to improve this offseason?  If we can win as many games with all the injuries as they can at full strength, then we are certainly better than them.

Great point, Lenwen.  Their high rank among ESPN analyists, and thus countless bandwagon NBA fans, is really only because they took the Lakers to six games.  Hm, so did the Suns, and they're only good thing is a 35 year old point guard.  The Thunder have two good things cooking for them, Durant and Westbrook.  That's pretty much it.  I think the Blazers have more than 2 good things.  Roy and Aldridge, just to name a few.  As of right now, the Blazers are much more of a championship contender than the Thunder, even with Durant as good as he is.  He'd have to be as good as MJ in order to lead their current roster to a championship.  Fortunately, he's nowhere close.

    Kevin Durant.
    Russel Westbrook.
And the fact that both of them were starters on the FIBA team.
    Their home court advantage.
Their coach, i think he's got balls, big brass ones.
And like you mentioned the fact that they shocked the 'ell outta the lakers last post season and held kobe bryant to 6 - 24 in game 2.
Well for me, that last one just was depressing to watch happen. F***ing Kobe man. He'd shoot till his arms fall off.

All the reasons given here still do not justify the Thunder being rated higher then Portland on any site .. with any real legitimate credence ..

As was stated .. Portland (2nd most injured team, 311 games missed due to Injury, most in franchise history) still posted a nearly identical record (and destroying the Thunder 3-1 reg season series) which is the reason we seeded higher in the playoffs.

Portland is flat out thee better team .. Miller is by far and away the better PG over Russel .. Durant can be contained by Batum .. And other then that .. Thunder are a none threat.

No Thunder player can stop Aldridge, Roy .. or even Bayless .. and I mean N O N E ..

For people to simply cite the Thunder's playoff games of pushing the Lakers to 6 games .. as the only legit reason they will be contenders (above the Blazers) I have to laugh at them ..

If I get my wish this year .. Oden will be healthy a full season, (As will everyone else) and Portland round 1 will take out the Thunder .. and eventually meet the Lakers to take them out as well ..

And all will be right in the universe again ..

We are a better team, no doubt. They do however play with a passion that we have yet to equal. They obviously like playing together and feed off of eachother's successes as do we, but, its that 82 game consistency that has to be our calling card from now on. We have to develop that signature thing that we can hang our hats on. Personally, i want that thing to be Oden.
I am a fan of our new roster playing with and for eachother.

i mean i get what your saying.
there is really no reason, or explanation that makes them a better team
but the fact that they gave the Lakers a run for their mone in the playoffs, should be the only reason you need.
    Dont Doubt.
Los angeles doubted, and they almost lost it, okay.
No one on their team could stop Bynum Gasol or Mbenga, all 7 footers, not to mention Odom, and Kobe, who can create enough offense to make thier own team.
But what happened? why did they loose their grip?
I mean your laughing now because their is no reason for the Thunder to outmatch the Blazers.
But im going to be the one laughing when they sweep the blazers.
Theres was no reason for the Lakers to lose, yet they did. I mean if you want to get technical on me, ya the whole Kobe Byrant shooting 6-24 did not help their performance, and i highly doubt any player on the Blazers would take that same route, of pointless shooting, trying to win a game themselves.

Just ask yourself this same question, but pretend your a Laker fan, and your back in last years playoffs...

And Kevin Durant got 30ppg last season, and no one stopped him then, and if Aldridge isnt being as tough as he should be down in the paint on  d, you really think that B Roy is going to stop Durant?
You cant even be sure that Oden is going to be there.....

The Thunder IMO are a strong, up and coming team.
BUT, I would not place them as a top 4 seed yet, like I would with the Blazers.
Maybe in the 2011-2012 season they could place as a top seed.
But for now, they're a bunch of young kids, that just love to play ball and win.
They don't have the EXP, that the Blazers have. (A mix of solid vets/rooks)
Durant may be the scoring champ, but if we weren't playing that
"wait til we have 2 seconds left on the shot clock and shoot" offense,
who says Roy wouldn't be the scoring champ?
2 different systems of offense. 1 fast, 1 slow.
I mean there was like 15 games straight last season where Roy was putting up 30-45 pts a game!
    ITS ALL ABOUT THE MATCH-UPS!
We beat LAL 2-1 last season, but Boston swept us 0-2...who won the championship?
    THE LAKERS...why? BETTER MATCH-UP.
That's the best example I can give.
Are the Thunder better than us now? HELL NO.
Can they be in a year or two? HELL YES.
It all depends on our players staying healthy for more than 70 games out of the season.
If that can happen I don't think OKC will be better than us, unless they make some serious roster changes to MATCH UP with us better.

if i'm pretending i'm a laker fan for a moment to put myself in their shoes and ask myself...
Why the thunder took the lakers to 6 games i'd say.... the same thing my friends say about the lakers and are actually fans of them.

the lakers didn't take the thunder seriously.
or even to further the point... the lakers didn't take the regular season seriously and thought they could turn it on in the playoffs right away.

that laker team could have won 65-70 games last year with just the players they have alone. however you saw reports all season comming from the lakers or phil specifically that they thought they could "turn it on in the playoffs"

but hey i'm not a lakers fan. so i'll just say the games they lost in the playoffs they choked. also they're not going to make the playoffs thsi year and wont win a single game! yeah right.. i wish. fakers are the champs.. i'll get over it eventually....

but to get back on topic.. the thunder didn't improve this season didn't add pieces to their NEED areas. they're an pretty good defensive team because of their athleticisim/length. but so are the blazers... both teams match up well against eachother.

difference between the 2 teams? the pg matchup. what happened last year when it was the thunder vs portland last year in the pg matchup.
miller to westbrook in the post and got him fouls/forced the double/scored.
with the thunder not adding anything downlow a big post guy they're depending on their current rosters potential. which they have an abudance of.. but big men take 2-3 years to develop. look for the thunder in 2years to make a strong push. now? the blazers are the better team.

I am a fan of defence.

THANK YOU!  I'm not the only who sees that.  Are the Thunders really that good?  Again, shows you what kind of people at ESPN are.
Sure, the Thunders pulled up some very nice wins, and they actually gave Lakers a good scare, but really?  With all the problems we had to deal with, we still got their same record.  Not to mention we beat them 3/4 times we played against them.
I only see them having a great point guard, and an elite small forward.  You have a nice PF in JGreen, an up and coming James Harden, and the new big guy Cole Aldrich.
With us, you have an experienced point guard in Miller.  Roy is a great shooting guard(would you consider him elite?) A strong SF in Batum.  The improving LA12, and the Beast with the Heart, GO52.

Seriously, Thunders better than the Blazers?  Well, I suppose only time will tell, huh?

I don't think they are better than us right now but that's why we play the game but if we don't get it together i won't be suprised if they are better than us by the end of next season, because one trade can change everything just ask the lakers.

I think the point is that we can not make the same mistake the lakers did and under estimate them, if this year plays out the same and we go down to the wire and we need a tie breaker to decide who we play in the playoffs I would hate to have come down to regular season 4 game series where we under estimated them to 1-3 record. Sounds like everyone thinks that we are in a division with the Clips, Kings, Wolves, and Warriors and the division is ours no matter what. The fact is that other than the Wolves this is a very strong crowd to get through weather it is Portland's young talent and depth or The Nuggets' talent and experience, the Jazz and Jerry Sloan, or Thunder with Durant we are going to have to earn the division title.

The Lakers Doubted, and they thought all the same things you guys are thinkin, and you know what happened to them.
So thats all im saying, Durant with 30ppg last seas, i mean the thunder did have to play the blazers, and durant probably ran a muck out of them and got his 30 points, the real question is, what can the blazers do to stop it.
You dont know if youll have oden for that long, so thats out of the question.
Apparently LaMarcus Aldridge isnt as aggressive as he needs to be down in the paint, and idk what his story is on D.
That leaves Batum to guard Durant, well thats not an ideal match up, but you guys say Batum is better on defense than he is offensively, okay so thats some breathing room.
Roy will do is best do guard whom he can.Same goes for miller and bayless, you just dont have alot of defensive stopping power with the point guys.
Heck maybe start Camby that game, or see that he has a longer rotation, hes your best bet when durants looking to put someone on a poster
