Ok Blazer fans, Bayless is a hot topic.  But there are rules on this site to protect the next generation of Blazers fans who can, do and will read these when the season starts.
No insulting or name calling please.

Lets tallk about what JBay brings ??
imo,  ability to score, lateral quickness, good defender, fire off the bench.

Lets talk about what JBay doesnt ??
the biggest things I hear are that is he is cocky and not a "true pg ".
I don't care.  Imo, a Blazer championship does not depend on either.

Imo, the answer to " pg of the future" is who works with Roy.  No matter who is brought in, that will always be the most important to me.

If Blazer brass was convinced JBay was the answer, why did they bring in AJ and EW ??
I'm on the fence. I can see keeping him, or adding him to a Rudy trade for another PF.

    My disclaimers:
I have to see Oden and Pryz ready to play in October, before I quit wanting another big man, I'm not sold 100% on Pendergraph.
I also want to see AJ and EW play in person before my final decision on keeping one of them over JBay. So if I was Cho, I would let Rudy sit, and let the rookies and JBay go at it playing with Roy, and look for a trade in February.

So Blazer fans....  does he stay or does he go?  If he goes , when ?

    Please keep it basketball related.

October is 3 weeks and counting, Go Blazers !!!

B-Rex does bring strong driving ability, good defender (especially against the quicker PG's of the league) and absolutly brings fire off of the bench !!

B-Rex being "Cocky" How do you or anyone of us know if the kids cocky or not ? Have the people claiming him to be so .. even ever met the guy ? I highly doubt it ..

B-Rex not being a true Pg .. this is true, but then agian how many teams are playing with out a true PG anyways ? Portland does not require a true PG to succeed we need only a PG position player who is able to play alongside Roy .. outside of that .. being a good defender and being able to create their own shots would be the ideal PG for this Portland team.

B-Rex positives far outweigh his negatives in my honest opinion. (Which are symantic's) He brings real talent to the team defensively and scoring wise while the only real negatives are symantic's of some people's thoughts on how they perceive the guy with out ever having met the guy face to face ..

I say B-Rex is a great role piece for this Portland team. Is he the PG of the Future ? Unknown at this time, for we have two PG's currently battling it out Mills/Armon for a possible position on the team.

The Blazer Brass brought in AJ and EW to up the ante so to speak to show that the PG position is still up for grabs .. (which means it will make most of the players going for that position play even harder to get the position) out of all the guards trying to get that last spot on the team my vote goes to Armon Johnson. dude has the wingspan (6'8) to effectivly cut off passing lanes of both PG's and SG's ..

This is my thoughts on the subject. Please feel free to disagree .

well i have a few issues with bayless but lets start with the good.

he has a pretty good work ethic. you look at how hes improved.
    1. he has an okay longball now that people have to get a hand up now.
    2. he doesnt jump to pass anymore.(which any coach will tell you. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR FEET TO PASS)
    3. he doesnt put his hand on the guards hip anymore.
    4. doesnt commit silly fouls.(see # 3)

    problems i have with bayless
    1. the biggest issue is i watched bayless get burnt over and over again by dragic when he was trying to apply pressure to him.
however, he didn't get burned by nash like that when he was on him...
that's 100% mental... "oh this is the backup pg for the suns hes not as good as nash. therefore i dont have to try as hard" bayless is young so hopefully being around another season along with coaches talking to him about it... that attitude will change.
    2.  see #1
    3. see #1
    4. i dont see him as someone that can play off the ball ever. it doesnt come natural to him... meaning in the last 2mins of the game. the ball goes into roys hands... bayless doesnt know what to do then. but once again hes young lots of talent... but hes very young.

I am a fan of defence.

I think many people are way to critical of Bayless. I like all the Blazers, but look, LaMarcus has been here four years, Oden three years, and Bayless only two years. Lamarcus has been giving SOOO MANY more opportunities, and hasn't yet reached his true potential. Oden has been effective while healthy, but never really healthy and we have been so patient with these two. I dont get why people are so impatient with Bayless. He is younger than these guys with just as much upside. Remember, he was projected to be the 4th overall pick in the 2008 draft when rose went #1, but he slipped, and we traded up to get him. People need to realize that he's obviously not going to be an all star at age 21, that is extremely difficult in the NBA.

    As far as your questions,
    1. Bayless brings the intensity that this team needs, and gets to the hoop better than anyone on the team besides Roy, and he is one of the better defenders on the team

    2. He doesnt bring a consistent jump shot, and in my opinion, thats about it. But its still better than Andre's!
3.I think he may be the PGOTF,if given a chance. Remember people, when he started to get more minutes last year, at first he was a score first guard, but toward the end of the season, he was definitely passing the ball more and racking up more assists.
4.Why did the Blazers bring in two more guards in the draft. Come on now... every team drafts players even though they play the same position as another player, I GUARANTEE you the Lakers have drafted a shooting guard before, the Cavs have drafted a small forward, and the Mavericks have drafted a power forward for example. Teams draft players if they see value in them, regardless of position.

I could see Bayless being a great player for the Blazers for years to come if/when he gets the opportunities.

And thank you for reminding fans to keep this basketball related, because it is very annoying when fans come on here and are extremely rude and use profantity filled posts to show their knowledge, or lack there of, of a certain topic.

    But good topic,
    Thanks

@blazerfanforlife bayless isnt 6'11'' and he cant hit a consistent mid-range jumpers nor is 7'0'' and average 2 blocks a game theres lots of players in the league who can get to the cup but not many 7 footers who can average 2 blocks a game or 6'11'' powerforwards who can hit consistent mid-range jumpers

I know, im not bashing on either of those two. I'm just saying that Bayless has just as much upside (maybe not as much as Oden), but people are much more impatient with him... If you're looking at potential alone... then it makes perfect sense. None of them have reached their true potential

AJ has a 6' 8" wingspan. Thats whats up !!

Look past the Lakers. The east is a lot better, and it's time to look at defending a 7 game series. Rondo, Rose, and Chalmers also have nice wing spans. Is JBay's quickness enough ??

I like Bayless, but he really is an undersized 2 guard, not the PGOTF.
So far I like what I have seen from Armon.

@blazersforlife234:  Yeah, people these days are pretty impatient, huh?  That's why some will be sorry once Oden starts dominating.
Have not seen AJ play yet, but his reports intrigue me.  To me, I see our future with Bayless and AJ at point, unless EW stays, or unless we do some other trade to get another point guard.  This is just me seeing which point guard on our team is likely to stay.  But EW.... is kinda of a shooting guard, right?  I heard somewhere that someone said he's kinda like another Bayless-- athletic player, but not really a point guard.
So yeah, I guess for the foreseeable future, Bayless and AJ will stay.  I'm hoping Nate will give AJ SOME minutes this year, so that in case next year Miller leaves, Bayless will start and AJ will back up.

I agree with Kim and TomL:  He's clearly not the PGOTF, and he's an undersized two who doesn't know what to do without the ball.  And, like Kim said, we've brought in Matthews, Elliot Williams and Armon Johnson;  I don't see Bayless getting more minutes, which most likely means a trade package.  This is something I'm very happy about.  Never really liked the guy, even though he's helped us pull through and win many a time.

Stay or go I love the kid's intensity and love for the game and i wish him well wherever he is.  Like a lot of people have said here, he does seem to try to do too much when on the court like he is worried about being pulled at all times, his best times were when Roy was out and he wasn't feeling like he is under a microscope, possibly has some feelings of inadequacies like he is worried he isn't good enough.  If he actually feels this way it may be better for us and him to trade him if he keeps feeling like he isn't good enough it will hurt his ability and hinder his play.

I Like Bayless for now and the future.  For now he seems to have claimed that first guard off the bench for either guard spot.  I like that he plays solid D and can create his own shot.  I like that he is improving at PG skills and trying to learn what Andre has to teach.  Mostly I like that he can defend PGs when Brandon is effectively playing the point.

I really would like to see them play together more minutes this season.

We should not be playing Bayless at the 2 in the first place with Mathew's here.

I'm a Bayless guy and love how he relishes the big moment, but I'll need to see more of a jump shot improvement before I'm ready to fully anoint him PGOTF. I still think he is our PGOTF but just not 100% sold yet. I don't think he is a 2 guard, rather a point guard who can find his out shot at any moment.

    DWawes,

I too am a Big B-Rex fan .. and I absolutely love how he has grown in the time he has been a blazer .. His dedication to the team can be gauged by his vast improvements over the course of his time as a blazer .. that is not even debatable ..

B-Rex is in my honest opinion the PGoTF for Portland until he is either released or traded away .. I for one will be a B-Rex fan ..

His fire is something our Bench NEEDS .. and most teams would kill to get .. his driving to the cup is literally second to none .. his quickness is more then enough to offset the balance of 90% of the leagues PG's .. with only CP3, Deron being able to really do anything against his quickness ..

B-Rex is perhaps thee single most under rated Portland player on the team .. especially after all that he has shown us just this last playoff run .. He literally took over quarter's of a game when he was allowed to ..

B-Rex is a very very integral piece of this team. I for one hope he remains so for the foreseeable future ..

I dont under rate him, he is a valuable guy off the bench.  I'm just not sure JBay will always be happy in that role.
With the up in the air timetable on Oden/Pryz , it may take more than Rudy to bring a quality big man in return.  Going on year 4 of wondering if the Blazers play possum with Oden ??
