I have read some past debate over running or sticking to the half-court and my opinion is why can't we have both?
Miller loves to run so maybe he would accept a "bench role" as "Run squad"

    Start
    PG-Bayless/Johnson
    SG-Roy
    SF-Batum
    PF-Aldrige
    C-Camby

    "Run Squad"
    PG-Miller/Williams/Mills (if kept)
    SG-Rudy/Matthews
    SF-Matthews/Babbitt
    PF-Dante
C-Oden/Billa/Pendergraph (depending on situations and teams)

I know most teams stick with a 9-10 man rotation tops, and this wouldn't necessarily be every game but having a squad that can excel at each styles of play could win us extra games, especially when a team's defense starts to control our halfcourt team, we can start running and they have to adapt quickly and as soon as they adapt throw the halfcourt back out and keep them unsettled...  Not a foolproof idea but would be fun to watch.

I've always felt that Portland should have a run an gun styled offense if even for only a quarter at most .. it is a system that has proven its a regular season dominating system ..

Not sure you can put oden and pryz on the run team haha. And dont think Andre would accept a backup role, he wined last year when that happened. I like the running idea, but nate will NEVER RUN, every year we talk about it right before the season, but it never happens. We are one of the slowest teams in the NBA

As it should be. Brandon is more methodical, with deceptive quickness. He only explodes when necessary, and blows by unsuspecting defenders. So yeah, the first unit is the grind squad. The bench, i've always said needs to be the aggressive, get after the rock type, hair on fire squad, that plays what can only be called, organized kaos.
    Fire Squad
    PG  Devin Harris *
    SG  Brandon Roy
    SF  Nico Batum
    PF  LaMarcus Aldridge
    C    Pryzbilla

    Ice Squad
    PG Bayless
    SG Wesley Matthews
    SF  Dante Cunningham
    PF  Marcus Camby
    C  Greg Oden

    *  Miller, Pendergraph,Mills, Williams  Cash, draft pick or both. Id make it happen, if it were monetarily feasible. BDawg or DHawes22, could this happen ? What would it take ?

I saw Oden run last year and if he has lost weight just a better shot at it and i know Andre whined but thats why i said he "might" be ok with coming off if he is leading a running team so it isn't so much not starting as it is he is running a completely second team in essence

I wonder if Andre ever heard of Manu Ginobli ? This dude is a starter anywhere on the planet, and yet his lack of an inflated ego lets him come off the bench feared.

Geez I don't remember Andre whining at all last year. I remember him getting into a heated conversation with Nate, that was it, he never complained or whined to the media. You guys need to get your memory checked. But even if he did whine to the media I would have understood, he was playing behind Blake, not even ranked among the top 30 pg's in the NBA last year or any year in his career.

No one on our team is better than Andre right now and as a starting pg I don't see any one taking it from him yet... especially Bayless. I see potential in Armon, but still not sold on Patty yet.

Also no way Oden comes off the bench. And having two distinct teams (fire/ice ha ha ha) is not a good way to build team chemistry, and also illogical since you never sub out all 5 guys at the same time every time you sub in every game. We need one team that plays together and sometimes that means we even need to shorten the rotation.

My point was having a starters mentality where ever you are in the rotation.

OK, but to be fair I think Andre handled it pretty good last year in the media so I was just trying to figure out why anyone would say he whined about it or say be more like Ginobliiiii!!! Now Rudy on the other hand... that is whining.

Any Blazer can be on a so-called "run squad."  Also, Andre will never accept a bench role; I think he'll be one of those players who retires as soon as he can't find a starting spot on a team.  That's okay, though.  He can start for another ten years as far as I'm concerned.
