Hypothetically plausible, who would you rather blazers try to get as a PF backup Taj Gibson or Thaddeus Young?

Or any other big men out there catch your eye that would compliment our team for a good price?

I would have a heart attack if Cho could land Dejuan Blair but seeing as how San Antonio found a gem in him he probably isn't going anywhere, especially to us having Rudy and some PGs on the block, for a guard heavy team like the Spurs unless we tempt them with Joel's expiring contract (I don't want him gone either but as much as we love the guy the NBA is still a business)  Hey if his career is done from this knee injury maybe we could bring him back as staff to help work with the bigs on the team...

although with no moves made i would still be a thrilled fan...

If we somehow got Blair he would mysteriously need knee surgery all of a sudden and miss the year. I do like Dejuan though, but I still can't believe he has no acl's!!

Taj Gibson in a heartbeat. I would give Rudy, JBay , Pendy or future picks in any combination to get him.

D Blair is a ticking timebomb with those knees, imo.  When he blows a knee from running bone on bone he's done. No thank you. Its a marathon not a sprint.

    Hypothetically speaking of course ..

One big I've been thinking would be an absolute game changer in Portlands half court offensive system ..

    David Lee ..

Of course this is very hypothetical .. hehe

I think we should save up for KG when his contract ends next season.  Camby's days will likely be over around that time, and we can replace him with another solid, experienced post.  My only issue's the ego, though.  And the money.  OK maybe not a good idea.

Taj gets after it, so thats a no brainer. I was about to send out an S.O.S. [ sick of scenarios]  but each gets more interesting. We've got pieces to throw at the Jr. pivot spot if we absolutely needed to. The Pendergraphs, the Cunninghams, Camby plays the pf like a savage. Cunningham has a crazy nice jumper, and has been working on putting the ball on the ground, and getting to the rack. I like his chances at becoming a fixture on our squad for years to come.

But, as long as we're dreaming, i'll throw my dream into the ring also.
I'll take Brandon Bass from Orlando right now. At least i think he's in Orlando. He's just mildewing on their bench anyway. Or,  Jason Maxiel from Detroit. Make that happen and we're well on our way.

Very much agree with you.  The Blazers, by no means, are in a desperate situation with regard to the back-up 4 spot.  Is that a position that could be improved upon?  Absolutely.  Does it necessarily need to be, particularly with a sense of urgency?  An emphatic "No".

That said, I have always been high on Bass.  The man is a brute and would be a nice compliment to LA in terms of skill set.  Character?  No issues that I'm aware of.  I also have liked Maxiel, though more so coming out of college than present.

Perhaps Orlando has another piece we may be interested in?  Could a package deal be agreed upon?  (Just stirring the pot a bit :)  )

Bass only averages 3.7 career rpg though... I would want more of a banger backup (havent seen much of his play so perhaps he bangs and affects plays that arn't recorded on stat sheets) but can anybody enlighten me if his stats are misleading to his game? Also there isn't really anybody in a good price range that would suit Portland imo from orlando other than possibly Bass

I would take Bass, he fell of the radar in Orlando. I would look at minutes played before I looked at stats last season for him.
Agree with BDawg, the Blazers are in no need to make a trade.

There's not enough minutes for these quality of players. Between Joel, Camby, Oden, and LA we are already stacked and we have Dante waiting in the wings. Gibson is getting nearly 30 minutes a night in Chi-town, do you think he'd really be happy coming off the bench here for 5-10 a night? In my Kevin McCallister voice (props to those who know what I'm talking about) "I don't think so!"

In hypothetical thinking, Gibson would jump at a chance to play behind LA.

In reality thinking, I don't know that Oden or Pryz will play a full season.  Rudy has to be dealt with.
If I'm Cho, I package Rudy and ? for a big man.  Imo, a lot of the ? depends on what  AJ and EW bring.

Thanks Rice for the info that EW has a 48 inch verticle. I have to see with my own eyes if he can really jump higher than Travis though ;)

I just don't buy it that any player would "jump" at the chance to go from a starting position on a playoff team to a backup position..doesn't add up to me

Kim makes a great point on Boozer and he averaged 34.3 minutes last season so Gibson would possibly get more minutes here

This roster will not look nearly the same come February.  There is absolutely no way to predict the availability of minutes at almost any position for anyone (beyond the obvious) this far out IMO.  At this point, with the obvious log jam in the backcourt, the Rudy soap opera, AND the two expiring contracts...not to mention the uncertain timetable for GO and Joel's return, AMBIGUITY seems to be the word that best describes the situation.  Deals WILL be made, and consolidation, on some level, is likely to happen as well.

Chemistry may be the biggest concern heading into the regular season as this Blazer team is essentially starting from scratch, having not had any meaningful court time together last season.  Buckle up everyone.

    BDawg,

I may have to conceed the point that yes the Chemistry is what is going to be Portlands biggest issue this year.

And hopefully we can mesh sooner rather then later .. and actually do as well as I know we can .

If we could somehow get derrick Favors in some package deal with New Jersey than I would like that better than any of the other options mentioned previously on this post.  Like all of the other scenarios this is just a hypothetical, but it could actually happen if we are willing to take a deal such as pendergraph or cunningham, Miller and Rudy for Harris and Favors.

But baxk to the origional question of who would I rather have between Gibson and Young at backup pf, I would take Gibson since he is taller, more formidable on defense, a better rebounder, and is actually a power forward.  Young is more of a small forward. Really the only thing Young is better at than Gibson is scoring.
