Who should be the owner of the Rose Garden's name?

As we have all heard before, the Rose Garden's name is up for grabs to the highest bidder.  Like some Arenas in the NBA such as the Staples Center, Quicken Loans Arena, U.S. Airways, Target, Pepsi, American Airlines, AT&T, etc. I love the Rose Garden, as it is home to me and everyone else in blazer nation I call family when we experience the pulsing heartbeat of the cheering crowd and go through the highs and lows together in the emotional roller coaster of basketball.  But let's  face it, one day if it is not deemed a historical landmark, the chances are that with our economy, the change will be made despite the love for its current name we all share.

I think personally, Nike should jump on this one.  Just imagine, "Nike Garden".  I'm pretty sure we would have the only sports branded name in the league and its a close to home, in the neighborhood business that is a huge associate of the NBA.  Even though I'm sure Paul Allen would suggest "Microsoft Garden", it just doesn't click as well with me.

What does everyone else think?  Who's name do you want to see on our arena should the price be paid?  Who's name would rub you the wrong way?

Following your lead with Nike, how about the "Just Do It Center"...Lol

Definately, without a doubt (though maybe a name in the running), NOT a name with "Chase" in it

Although i love that we have a unique name without a company blasted all over i cant help but like "Just Do It Center"  if we gotta go with a brand i would love that.  Nike however, being a local brand, might appreciate the love for the Rose Garden and just make it the Nike Rose Garden, if they were to become owners.

My vote would be Nike. Ha, Microsoft? Hope not. Paul Allen would just be giving away that he wants to take over the organization.
What else does Portland/the NW have that's a nationally recognizable name? Starbucks? Imagine that. Starbucks Arena. Didn't think so.

For Nike, the "Just Do It Center" might do. It could also be the "Swoosh Stadium" (SS).

Another sportswear brand, Columbia, could also bid for the naming rights. Imagine "Columbia Sportswear Center of Sports" (CSCS).

For Microsoft, the brand should not be directly stated like "XBOX Xtreme" (XX) or "Windows Wonderland" (WW). lol

There's also Intel. The arena could be named "Intel Inside" (II). another lol

Ok, I can see Intel or Columbia taking the name, but a slogan? What arena has a slogan as a name? I don't think Staples Center would be called "That Was Easy Center," though it may as well be true if you're the Lakers...
"Life's a Moving Target Center?"  "Yes, Just Do It" may be a little more instantly recognizable, but I don't think a slogan is going to turn into the name of an arena. If anyone finds one that did, I'd like to see it.

Yes, but show me an example of a slogan than better fit the direction of a franchise.  If we are going to go commercial, why not do it with SOME degree of relevance.  Nike is local, has national recognition, and is relevant.  Relevant meaning that you would sooner see a Blazer wearing Nikes than a Kardashian toting a Target bag from her frugal back-to-school shopping while attending a Laker game.  For the life of me, I can't see how Staples relates to the NBA or it's players either.

Personally, it disgusts me that we are seeing this commercialization amongst NBA arenas.  The reason for it disgusts me even more.  What happened to the days of dedicating the name of a building to a much loved and respected member of the community after their passing?  Again, if the Blazers HAVE to go commercial, I like the "Just Do It" idea.  Remember what a "Trailblazer" is by definition?  Why do we need to only consider options that other teams have adopted?  Why not be a "Trailblazer" and be the first to use a local giant's slogan?

Nike Rose Garden...I like it. I think Nike is the only one that I would be ok with.  Now if we wanted to stick with the whole "Keep Portland Weird" slogan and let VooDoo Doughnuts buy it and they make it The Doughnut Hole, VooDoo Garden or find a way to name it after one of their doughnuts, then it could be interesting, but I doubt that the idea of Blazer Blunt Garden isn't exactly ideal for a team that was known as the Jailblazers. haha

@BDawg: well, remember, the Blazers may be the main attraction of the RG, but there's also concerts and whatnot that come there. I have no problem with being different, but I just can't see a slogan, no matter how recognizable, be the name of an arena. Maybe I'm missing something, I don't know. I have no problem with Nike being the name-holder, I just think the smarter, more sensible option would be to stick to the name "Nike."

@moralesj88: I thought of VooDoo as well for a brief second, then thought better with the name. Not to mention, it's really a local name in the end. I also thought of Dutch Bros., but came to a similar conclusion.

    My picks:
    1. Nike
    2. Columbia
    3. Intel

My guess is that whatever they call it, fans will still refer to it as the Rose Garden. When the ChiSox renamed Comisky Park to US Cellular, it's still known as Comisky. Oddly enough when the Jazz had to rename the Delta Center to Energy Solutions, people still think of it as the Delta Center.

If we do end up naming the RG, I hope it is something subtle like the United Center (United Airlines) for the Chicago Bulls, because although it is still corporate, it doesn't sound like it, if that makes any sense. Or find someway to keep Garden in the name like the Celtics did after tearing down the Boston Garden and renaming their new arena the TD Banknorth Garden.

Finally, the Voodoo Garden is about the coolest name possible!

Its like how in San Diego, they still refer to Qualcomm stadium as Jack Murphy Stadium.

Another good company that could aim for the name is Widmer Beer.  Granted the fact that not a lot of arenas want to be known as a beer house.  Widmer has been with Portland and the Blazers for a long time.  Not to mention the fact that we have the Fan Haus in the lobby.

    "Widmer Garden", "Widmer Rose Garden".......

    Northwest Garden. Pacific Garden.
    I beg your pardon garden.
Lets get the season started garden.

Realistically, i like either, Just do it, or Nike. Of course if it's Nike, we can call it the Nike Garden, because their Beaverton complex landscape is meticulously kempt like a garden. Just do it however cant use garden, because it sounds like it's actually possible, to do it in a garden that is. The Just do it Center would have to work.

Give the name to that boring MLS team that Mayor Adams loves so much. Portland just kicked out the Beavers, and gave PGE park to their new, weak version of a proffesional soccer team. Might as well give them the Rose Garden too.
