This is more of a question rather than me giving my point of view.  I'm still not sure what he's exactly supposed to do this up and coming season.  I understand that he is a SF/PF that can give us shooting outside.  I understand that he's kind of an average SF athletic-wise.
What I don't understand is this: How does he fit in with our system next season?  Yes, I know we got him for the shooting, but is he supposed to contribute to our team instantly?  Is he supposed to contribute to our team soon or a few years from now?  Reading others' take on Babbitt, while no one said they expected him to contribute instantly, for some reason, that's the energy/feeling I'm getting from people who say he can shoot, even though they mention nothing about him helping us immediately.
Can someone help me clear up on that question?

I think he'll play about as much as Jeff Pendergraph/Donte Cunningham did last year.  Even though Donte didn't play much last year a lot of people say he's a big part of our future.  I don't see Babbit contributing a lot next year but if Przybilla doesn't return by the start of the season I could see him playing some PF behind Alridge (due to Camby then having to play full time center off the bench.) With Wesley Matthews being off the bench behind Roy  and not having much opportunity to play SG, he'll make it up by taking away Babbit's minutes at SF.   So he's not going to contribute this year... not nessecarily because of lack of talent but probably becuase he won't get the opportunity.

I don't expect to see Babbitt play much initially, due to Nate's history of playing rookies.  I must admit that he looks very promising, though.  Hopefully, if he learns from the vets on the team, he can back up Batum and Matthews at the 3 spot.  I haven't paid much attention to his defense, though;  If you're a small forward who can't guard, you wont be playing much because of the league's talent at the three spot (LeBron, Durant, Carmelo, Pierce, etc.).  If Babbitt is going to be consistently involved in the rotation, he has to prove to Nate that he can guard the league's best, while still contribute on the offensive end.  That's no small task for any rookie, so I doubt that Babbitt will play much this season.  Unless, of course, the ghost of the 2009-2010 season haunts us again.

Babbitt will probably only get mop-up duty, possibly more minutes if someone gets dinged up for a long period of time. I'd like him to use his rookie season to bulk up and really study the game. You don't have to be the most athletic player to become successful, just focus and always be one step ahead of your opponent.

Unless he's Kyle korverish from three, he gets absolutely no run initially. His defense was suspect in the summerleague games. I wasnt very impressed either with his body language after a few misses.Of course it could have been just rookie jitters. I have one fear when it comes to Babbitt, please dont turn into Adam Morrison. Although i believe Adam stole a ring from the Lakers.

Okay.  All your answers have made me feel better now.  I thought it was weird, but I had the feeling Babbitt would be Batum's backup.  As in, an immediate back up if Batum sat down(well, behind Matthews, but still).  Okay, so I get it: he's going to be like most rookies in the NBA and not get that much PT.
    Thanks guys.

Right now, the most realistic is Asik. If Houston pursue D12, sign and trade JJ and a couple second round picks, maybe Joel Freeland or somebody for Asik.

Nah, Washington would just sign him themselves, save them a pick. Also, no way JJ is worth a lottery pick. Oladipo would be great, for pretty much any team in the NBA. I don''t think it''s possible to get him though. Should focus on getting a defe...

Jermaine O''Neal, Drazen, Z-Bo, Sheed (I know he was already a star but still). Also Drazen was buried under Drexler and Porter.

What happens if we don''t win? Dwight will start his nonsense, we would be out a lot of money, and with no real talent to show for it. San Antonio and Memphis is proof that you don''t need superstars to win.

Special K, aren''t you a cereal? And yes, Batum is expensive, but I think he''s worth it. Why would you take someone who isn''t is as good, just for less money. Then why don''t we take the worst possible player and pay him the least possible amoun...
