The current team that the Blazers have assembled is shockingly similar to the championship-winning Detroit Pistons from the 2003-2004 season.  This arguable fact makes me much more hopeful about our chances of winning a championship sometime soon.

    Pistons' starting five:  C-Ben Wallace
    PF-Rasheed Wallace
    SF-Tayshaun Prince
    SG-Rip Hamilton
    PG-Chauncey Billups

Let's start with Oden and B. Wallace:  They're both solid big men who plug the lane and make it a nightmare for opposing teams' point guards to drive.  Oden has much more offensive potential than B. Wallace ever had, but Wallace was DPOY four times, so he has the edge on the defensive end (at this point in Greg's career).

Rasheed and LaMarcus:  Both very good jump shooting power forwards, who are both very good low post defenders.  Rasheed's jumper has a little more range, and he's a little thicker than LaMarcus, making him much more of a bruiser down low.  However, LaMarcus could easily become as good, if not better, than Rasheed ever was; as far as off-court issues and team chemistry go, he already is much better!

Batum and Prince:  They're basically the same person; tall, lanky, and agile small forwards who can guard just about any position.  Nico isn't quite as good as Prince was in his prime, but at the rate Batum is improving, he'll end up being much better than Prince.

Roy and Rip:  There is nothing Rip could do in his prime that Roy cannot do now.  Roy's package of offensive moves is far better than Hamilton's, and Roy is much stronger, allowing him to get more boards and defend the post.  Plus, Rip never really impressed me, while Roy continues to nearly every game.

Andre and Chauncey:  Most people would say without thinking that a Chauncey Billups in his prime far outweighs a 34-year-old Andre Miller.  I would challenge that statement.  Andre's court vision is the best there is in the league, and he can still run the court with relative ease, not to mention he's the league's sturdiest player.  The experience he now possesses is far greater than the experience Chauncey had in 2004.

Fans, before you dismiss my comparisons and label them as "farfetched," you should consider them.  With another year or two of experience under this young Blazer teams' belt, we cannot be left out of the list of championship contenders.  With our remarkable depth and formidable starting line-up (which I think is overall better than the championship Pistons' line-up), we can defeat any team, including the Heat and Lakers.

cool post man. i can see what you're saying. that pistons team was solid too. i think if this team stays mostly healthy and starts winning games in bunches, something amazing can happen. confidence and momentum... the players are here for this team to be pretty special.

@Jason:  Thanks for responding and seeing what I was thinking.  I agree with the winning games in bunches comment you made; that momentum will really help us, especially the younger players on the team.

ummm......... Chancey is better then miller and also, The 2003-2004 piston team are different cause they weren't as young as we're now so i think we have a few years to come to be like them and win a championship.

Valid points about the talent this Blazer team has. I can't compare Oden to B Wallace yet. I have to see him on the court before I assume anything about the future again.  I can see comparing a healthy Pryz to B Wallace though.

In the future, fans on other sites will be comparing their teams to the  2010-2015  Blazers, if they can stay healthy.

In a perfect world next season :

    Starting:
    Miller
    Roy
    Batum
    Aldridge
    Oden

    2nd unit:
    Bayless
    Matthews
    Cunningham
    Camby
    Pryz

    Disclaimer:
I have to see Johnson and Williams before I would insert them for Bayless, but I think it could happen.

3rd unit: (while they are learning)
    Johnson
    Williams
    Babbitt
    Pendergraph
    Trade for Rudy

    Go Blazers !!!!

@Kim:  If only that perfect world would come true!  I seriously doubt that Przybilla and Oden will be back even before Christmas.  Pendergraph may have to be moved up to the second unit.  As far as tenacity, I think he can be compared to Ben Wallace.  I love the kid.
I liked how you're willing to have Williams or Johnson replace Bayless.  Many fans on the site have abused me for saying that if Bayless isn't improving (which I don't think he is, at least not in ways he needs to), he should be replaced by rookies or traded.  I'm not questioning that he has potential, but he never seems to play under control.  That's something he could really learn from Roy.

Worthy comparisons, not dead on accurate, but I don't believe that was the point anyways. Didn't that Pistons team fall in between a dynasty? As in didn't they win in between the Spurs wins? I could have easily seen us winning the championship this year as the Lakers are going to have some injuries to deal with this year, but with the way free agency went I'd say we are nearly a lock to get out of the WCF at least.

As for bayless, he's a Jarret Jack that screws up a little less, soo lets send him to indiana.

I mean i like what you did and all but i guess it would come down to Oden.

Like really you get none of that, without Oden

mm i agree with most of it. only thing i could say is that rip was better playing without the ball than roy is currently.
mm maybe i cant even say that. comming off screens isnt something that is used as much in the offence here as it was with the pistons. but roy does play with the ball alot better than rip did/does.

although i will always despise  the LMA - Sheesh comparison.

What happens if we don''t win? Dwight will start his nonsense, we would be out a lot of money, and with no real talent to show for it. San Antonio and Memphis is proof that you don''t need superstars to win.
