... and that Cho MAY be looking for another big.

On Aug. 8, we highlighted a quote from Joel Przybilla, in which he said he was shooting to be ready for opening night.

But in an interview with Isaac Ropp and Jason Scukanec of 1080 The Fan's Primetime, Portland GM Rich Cho gave a far more conservative return date for the center as he recovers from his ruptured patella.

"I don't think he'll be back for camp," Cho said, according to Blazersedge. "Not playing on the court. He'll be at training camp. Right now with Joel we're looking at probably a November or December time frame."

With Greg Oden's ability to play at the start of the regular season in doubt, it's possible the Blazers will have to rely heavily on Marcus Camby to play center until Oden and Przybilla round into playing shape.

Cho also said in the interview it's possible the team could look for another player to fill the void, but "didn't want to rush it because you go out and get somebody and then you have to cut somebody once Greg and Joel are back."

I agree with Kim~. I don't want Patty here because I don't think this is the right place for him.

Now, we knew Joel was gonna be out til sometime during the season about the time his injury was defined after he slipped in the shower. This is old news. I didn't believe it when he said he was tryna be back for training camp.
If any of our centers are gonna be traded, it's Joel. Love him to death, but it's true. He's one of out only 2 true centers. (Camby is a big PF by definition.)
I'm beginning to develop a fear that Cho is TOO patient. There's nothing wrong with being patient, but if he's gonna let this go until Joel/Greg come back, he's gonna have waited too long. If he wants a center to fill that spot voided by Rudy, honestly, get it done ASAP. Not because we wanna see a move, but because you need to get that done and over with.

I am a huge fan of Joel and Greg is going to be an amazing Center if he can figure out how to finish a season or two.. and of course, Camby is such a great talent to have on the team. I don't think we really need to find a new center. Camby can fill the void for a while and when he needs a break, just put out some other semi-bigs like L.A. and Batum to help with the height. I think it's more important for us to get a strong Power Forward than a Center, because like it said, once another guy gets healthy again, you have to cut someone.

I agree with you completely. Though even though Camby is by def. a PF, he can play a Center extreamly well when it comes to rebounds, the only thing he lacks is strength and weight to post up, but with LA getting stronger and practicing his Post Moves over the summer, I think we will be ok. I do think that Cho might be a little too patient though.

I personally have no problem at all with having to rely on Marcus Camby to fill the middle.  He's the league's second-best rebounder, despite his thin frame.  Maybe he'll teach LaMarcus how to get some rebounds.

Listen to Cho, we "might" need a center. Translation - we need security in the paint and we don't want to wear down Camby - we need a center.

Yeah, he was tripping with that Scottie Pippen reference. Nowhere as good as him, BUUUTTT, I think he can be, if he plays like a man. In Euroleague, you are taught more about finesse, and the fundamentals. He needs to put a little more muscle on, ...

I think what Stotts is doing is superb. His plays are great. I remember the only play he ever called for Meyers Leonard, against the Bobcats. Great movement, got LMA a good mid range look, got Batum a decent three look and the got Meyers way down ...
