Who do you think will have the biggest impact on Portland this year? I think the two likely players to have a breakout season are Greg Oden and Nic Batum. What are your thoughts?.....

I agree. Unfortunately, the only other player that really has the opportunity to turn some heads is Bayless by developing as a PG instead of an undersized SG. Aldrige, we expect him to get better and he is already regarded as a potential All-Star. Oden and Nic have the best opportunity to make huge impacts on this Blazers season. I think Nic developing his ball handling skills with France as a SG this summer can only help. All Oden has to do is stay healthy. The keys to Oden's season are a Right and Left Knee Sleeve. Dead serious, not a joke. I know they look like garbage and they don't exactly state "I'm tough" but they will prolong his career.

I don't really think Oden putting up numbers would be a 'Breakout' year, because we've seen him do it before, he just needs to be healthy. To me a breakout player is someone who takes their game to the next level or comes out of nowhere to surprise.

After his solid playoff run, look for Bayless' jumper to start hitting and he'll become the team's player who will break out and take that next step. Nic is a good answer, but I feel like everyone is expecting him to do so, so I went with someone who has fans riding the fence in terms of their opinions on how good he'll be. My darkhorse player is Elliot Williams if he gets some time.

I agree that Bayless and Batum will have an amazing season this year, but after Batums steady improvement and Bayless' playoff production Id say that no one expects anything other than great games from both of them. That being said I would have to say the breakout player will be Dante Cunningham. He has a beautiful high percentage shot that he's been working on pushing out past the 3 line. Also he's been working a lot this summer on putting the ball on the floor and taking it to the hoop which, in my opinion, could very well lead to a breakout season for him.

Good call, I think Dante is definitely a sleeper this year. On any other team I think he would definitely make that next step, unfortunately he has to back up Batum, Matthews, Aldrige, and Camby at the Forward positions. He may not get a whole lot of time to put those skills to use. If he does though, I like that pick too.

II feel ya except I think McMillan really wants to use Matthews as a role player defending the leagues top gaurds/small forwards. Plus it wont take much for a second round draft pick whos already proven he can produce with few minutes to do well now that Webster is gone and Fernandez is on his way out. Besides, Dante has proven himself time and time again to Nate so look for him to get good minutes. Nate rewards solid play.

I don't think anyone will have a true "breakout" year.  Roy will likely have a "bounceback" year, and Batum will be better, but no one's going to truly exceed expectations.

I also don't know why everyone thinks Bayless is going to drastically improve.  He's just like Travis Outlaw; he's been given the opportunity to improve, and he simply hasn't.  This year is his last chance, and if he's still unproductive, I say get rid of the inefficient ballhog.

I really hope Lamarcus has a breakout year.  If he does we could easily make it to the WCF's. Especially if Oden stays healthy. If Oden actually does better than expected, and Batum and Bayless have breakout years also, we have a chance at winning the WCF's! Oh I guess I may be getting overexcited again.

I really expect these players to really come through for us this year: Oden, Batum, and Bayless.  Yes, they were put in order.  Oden and Batum kinda stands in their own upper place.  Bayless has shown us he can score, but if he wants us to see him in his breakout year, he needs to start playing like a PG.

Does anyone know what Bayless has been up to this summer? I hope that he rcognized what his weaknesses were last season and made the necessary adjustments to his game. Best case scenario is that he returned to his home of Arizona, and attended Steve Nash's school of ball handling. Thats the area where he is most suspect in my opinion. If he can polish up that particular aspect of his game, he would be a nice change of pace from Miller. Quiet as kept though Blazer Peeps, im sparked about the rookie Armon. Good size, great pick & roll skills, pressures the rock, and is a cerebral, feet moving defender, who i personally think will surpass both Miller and Bayless in that department because of his committment to it. He reminds me of a blend of two of my favorite former Blazers. Terry Porter and Greg Anthony. He needs to work on his J, but who doesnt ? Not to mention, its difficult to prepare for a southpaw.

I think the definition is flexible here. I do agree with @DHawes22 on the definition, but in relation to this thread, I think it's flexible. I would count Greg. I would count LA, as he has little recognition nationally. Wesley had his breakout last year, otherwise I would absolutely consider him. I believe Elliott Williams could be a candidate (but not so much Armon and Luke). I HOPE Jeff can have a breakout year. I know Dante will.
I think Rich Cho will also have a breakout year.
If I have to pick ONE player, it's Dante. Dante, Dante, Dante.
