Denver Nuggets guard J.R. Smith is on the trading block, according to an AOL FanHouse report.

Smith, a six-year veteran, is entering the last year of a contract that will pay him $6.03 million this season.

    J.R. Smith
    Smith

Though Smith has been mentioned in trade rumors before, a source told AOL FanHouse that the Nuggets' sudden willingness to move the shooter is tied to the team choosing not to renew the contract of vice president of basketball operations Mark Warkentien.

Warkentien has been one of Smith's largest supporters within the organization, the source said, having orchestrated the deal that brought Smith to Denver in 2006 via a trade with the Chicago Bulls.

Smith was runner-up for the 2008-09 Sixth Man Award but regressed last year, averaging 15.4 points per game on 41.4 percent shooting.

Smith has had issues in the past with Nuggets coach George Karl and was seen visibly sulking on the bench as the team was knocked out in the first-round of the NBA playoffs by the Utah Jazz this spring.

His brash behavior was also on display following a Game 4 loss to the Jazz, as Smith called out his teammates on Twitter saying, "You play selfish you lose selfish that's all I'm saying about the game!"

Smith is the latest Denver player to reportedly have a limited future with the team as sources told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher earlier this week that Carmelo Anthony will likely part ways with the franchise.

No. Just no. Smith is the biggest knuckleheads in all of sports. He has the talent but if you don't have the brains, it'll never work out. Why do you think the Bulls gave him up so easily after acquiring him from the Hornets? Also, for every game he shoots you back in, he'll shoot you back out of a game. His shot selection is poor and is too streaky. Give me Wesley Matthews. A player who will not make many mistakes on the court and will be flawless off of it as well.

not even for a 1 yr try? coming off the bench he could be a beast... i could see boston. or the knicks getting him... i think this is the beginning of the nuggets rebuilding and will most likely start to trade a few players smith, martin, melo, billups could all be dealt

How many guards do the Blazers need to sit on the bench behind Roy ??  Rudys minutes are already taken with EW and WM.

lol. nah i was just seeing what everyones opinions are. i know i rather have him than rudy any day though...  the guy has 1 of the best overall games in the league. he is a talent. nobody is perfect... u guys want someone who is... and frankly thats never gonna happen... no one on this current team is a saint... don't be so quik to judge. with that said i'd give him a chance and if he didn't stay in line he is easily traded or release since he has a expiring contract...

Totally agree. This is a definite "No." The only Nugget I would take on would be Billups or Andersen. The rest have continued to be knucklehead thugs. Even Nene has adopted "thug" mentality from what I've heard. I'm not looking to pick up any of Denver's dirty laundry.

Huh? Anderson's not a knucklehead? If you're calling out Nuggets players as knuckleheads, the list starts with Chris Anderson. He's a coke head.

just 3's? lol... wth? lmao........ obviously you don't know what your talking about. he shoots 3's because that what his coach tells him to do.. but he has had some monster dunks. beautiful lay-ups... beautiful steals... he is overall a very good player. and this is all without even starting... he might be 1 of the best bench players in the league. and someone is gonna get him for cheap! he is only on a 1 yr contract so its not a big risk....

I kind of agree with B4L247 on this one. I would risk it. He's a weird dude, but he is a really really good option as a bench player, and we do need scoring off the bench. If you want to do it with Rudy though you would have to add to it cause I think rudy is owed something like 3.5 mill for the next 2 years, and it says smith is making 6 this year.

What the hell, it's not a beauty contest. Most players in the NBA can dunk, steal and make layups. What I was saying is he shoots well some games and then he shoots the Nuggets out of other games. He is overall a d**chebag. And you  can't just keep piling players up just because they have a 1yr contract and think there are no big risks. There is a reason these guys are on short contracts and there is also chemistry concerns. Obviously you don't know what YOU'RE talking about.

i'd take Wilson chandler over Smith any day.  Chandler is more consistent, a better defender, a better locker room guy and has more potential.  I don't actually really like either one of those trades that much though since the blazers have no need for another sg or sf.  Also this entire disscusion on whether or not we should swap him for rudy is stupid since jr smith is making 6 times what rudy is making so unless we gave up two or three more guys.  Also to say that aquiring Smith is a no risk situation is dumb because he takes like 15 shots per game even when he's cold, so he could totaly f*ck up multiple games for the Blazers next season.  Really wha the Blazers should do with Rudy is package him with Miller and Babbit for a long term upgrade at pg such as Monta Ellis.

oops, meant to say unless we gave up 2 or 3 more guys the trade wouldnt work.
Also I think a rudy and Bayless for Mike Conley trade could work out pretty well for the blazers, Conley is a good shooter, is not bad on d, and is a pretty good passer, which is exactly what the Blazers need out of their pg position.  Also this would allow us to keep Miller, so if Conley doesnt work out the Blazers could always just play Miller more and Conley less.

he is a big gamble, but we really need somebody who can shoot 3's. if we could package Rudy and a non-impact player in a deal for him, i think it would be worth the risk, but the price would have to be right.

When you have issues with a coach and enough of a sore loser to lash out at your teammates that will cause a good amount of trouble. I'm sure no one wants more drama to happen within the organization again.

if we dont want to entertain the thought of Arenas, than Smith is unacceptable also. If we could pick him up and then package him in a deal for a first rounder or something absolutely delicious that helps us now,im all for it.

Not smith, it was in regards to a post I had earlier in the thread. Yes, Smith still is a knucklehead regardless. I had said the only Nuggets I would be inclined to take on at this point would be Billups and Anderson. Another guy said that Anderson was the biggest knucklehead of them all so I posted that. So you figured it out on your own, good boy. Back to the topic, as recently as Auugust 13th JR Smith was involved in an altercation at the Denver practice facility. When the coaching staff advised an unsigned player to "body up" on Smith, Smith took offense to the aggressive defense and choked the opposing player. Denver PD confirmed the incident today to Fanhouse according to Hoopshype.com. Straight up Knucklehead.

I'm not saying that he is a superb player who should start over Miller, I'm just saying tht he is still young and would probably be a good fit because of his style of play.  Also Oden and Conley were'nt even an excellent fit whn they did play at Ohio State, so thats not why i would want him, I would like to have him more because I think he would compliment Roy well.  Also a trade like the one that I menioned would be pretty low risk since we wouldnt really be giving up anything that important.  I meen do you really think that Bayless is better?  Bayless in my opinion kinda blows, all he does is miss mid range jumpers, he only shoots like 43 percent despite being a mostly mid/close range pg.  But back to Smith, the Blazers could definantly get a way better deal for Rudy than him.  He's talented but he would ruin the chemistry on our bench by being a selfish asshole who gets in fights with anyone who looks at him the wrong way.  If the Blazers cant get anything better for Rudy than Smith, they should just send him down to the d leauge or let him rot on the bench.

I am a fan of the Blazers draft selections. Feels good to finally be able to say that

For a change, you and I can actually agree. As far as no charges being pressed, out of court settlements seem to go along way in Colorado, just ask Kobe and Mello. It's rare that you find celebrities actually pay for their transgressions in that particular state. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful state, but they definitely cater to their celebrities more than we do here in Portland. As far as not being that far removed from the knuckleheads that were Blazers goes, that is part of the reason why we don't want to bring a guy like Smith in here. We, as fans, really don't like being referred to as "Jailblazers" and don't see a reason to get started down that road again.

yeah lets get Smith.....  while we're at it lets get bonzi back along with ruben patterson back.

okay so character issues as they may be

JR smith is a okay bench player. he takes shots that are terrible. he can shoot the lights out when hes on. but so can everyone in the NBA.

no its not because the coach says. "take a shot with 22 seconds left on the shotclock from 30feet..........."

but the biggest issue i have with JR smith is someone needs to light a fire under his bum. some nights he is into the game playing defence pushing the ball rebounding. other nights... hes just not there... its like night and day.
I am a fan of defence.

nuggets want a bunch of young players and draft picks for the future so they can build. they already have ty lawson for a pg replacement if they trade billups... and ty lawson is pretty good... they signed a few players this offseason that i'm sure they wanna get on the floor... most likely billups, kenyon martin, anderson, smith and carmelo could be moved... if that all happens it may be  a good yr for the blazers since the division will be weakened ;) i think our only real competition is the thunder...

definitely a great player to have... that is, if you're playing 2K.  As good as J.R. may be, he doesn't seem to make the Blazers seem like that good organization.  He would only darken us.  No.  Just don't take him.

Paul Allen said how do we get better?  I see no activity in the draft with no draft picks.  The trade possibilities are limited because of the value of our bench players.  We have no cap space.  So I think the improvement of our b...

First Game starts tonight. Houston is a tough first round opponent and they play exceptionally well at home. If we can steal a game or two at their place, I feel like we have extremely good chances.

P.S. Would anybody happen to have a...

The Blazers were winning!  That is the key word, were.  Blazers are living proof that you can live and die by the jumper.  Lately it has been dying.

Thank God they are 19 games over 500.  Mayb...

Hawes will be a hot commodity by the trade deadline, I would think the sixers could find a better offer.

However, I do believe Mo Williams could have somewhat of  a high trade value. Olshey needs to make a deal to get a big man while we...
